From Our Pastor - St. Cajetan Parish
From Our Pastor
From Father Frank
We all know people like them – those who like to talk about themselves and their accomplishments. We
often call these people boastful, arrogant and vain. I am the best at _________(well just fill in the blank). It is never
easy to be around people like this because they seem to know everything and tend to monopolize a conversation.
They are so self-assured that others at first are fooled into believing that they are intelligent or gifted but in reality
they are just empty bags of air.
The scriptures today speak to us about humility. Humility is the opposite of aggressiveness, arrogance, boastfulness
and vanity. Humility is the quality of being respectful to God and to others. It is the quality of putting someone
else’s needs first – caring and listening to others. We live in a world where society does not value the virtue of
humility. We are told to “toot our own horn” and draw as much attention to ourselves as possible. Reality television shows as well as instant communication and You Tube have all help to devalue humility. We seem to be looking for our 15 minutes of fame.
There are those who practice “false humility.” They speak poorly of themselves and under value their worth and
achievements so that someone will correct them and then heap praise upon them. Their goal was not an honest assessment of themselves, but rather the undeserved praise of another. This is a disguised form of boastfulness.
“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Jesus reminds
us of the value of true humility – the virtue of an honest assessment of ourselves and of respectful deference to God
and to others. Let us pray that our world will once again embrace the virtue of humility.
Parish Picnic
Today is our annual Parish Picnic at Kennedy Park. There are many activities planned for all ages. This is a wonderful way for us to gather and to celebrate the gift of St. Cajetan. Many thanks to the St. Cajetan Men’s Club
(and the wives of the members) for their work in the planning of this event. The picnic begins at noon. Hope to
see you at Kennedy Park.
The Sacrament of Penance
Confessions are scheduled for Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 9:30AM and Saturday afternoons from 3:00 to
3:30PM. Fall is a busy time for weddings and they are usually scheduled for 2:00PM. Sometimes weddings are not
completed by 3:00PM. Many times I am the celebrant for the wedding and also scheduled to hear confessions –
the reality of a one priest parish. This does not mean that confessions have been cancelled. It just means that confessions may start a little later than scheduled. I just ask you to be patient if you arrive at 3:00PM and a wedding is
going on. Confessions will begin shortly afterward.
Party Around the Parish
Please mark your calendars for the St. Cajetan Women’s Club party around the parish scheduled for Saturday,
September 24th. Please see the bulletin for details. Sounds like this will be a wonderful event for all.

Then the Ministry of Care might be the right ministry for you! The Ministry of Care is a service in
which trained ministers visit our sick or homebound
parishioners, offer prayers for them, and share the
Eucharist with them during weekly visits.
The Peanut Butter & Jelly Ministry volunteers
want to thank Dolores O’Brien for the generous donation to this ministry in memory of her daughter,
Mary Kay. Mary Kay’s desire was to help people in
need throughout her life.
Training is required for all Ministers of Care, and
will be offered for new volunteers this September.
The 1st of 3 training sessions will take place on
Wednesday, September 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish
Center.
We joyfully welcome these
children into God’s family.

those moms who critically need assistance.
On Saturday, September 10, Pro-Life Americans
throughout the country will gather at the gravesites of
aborted babies and other memorial sites dedicated in
their honor for the Fourth Annual National Day of
Remembrance for Aborted Children, a joint project of
The Pro-Life Action League, Priests for Life and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society.
Solemn vigils will be held at these sites to commemorate the more than 50 million children who have lost
their lives to legal abortion since 1973, and to remind
our society of the humanity of the unborn child. Please
join us for the memorial service in our community:

We are told by all spiritual writers that one important point to bear in mind, as we seek to attain humility, is not to be surprised by our own
faults and failures.
