BWC Update: Private Employers
Prepare for Prospective Billing
As you may be aware, the Ohio Bureau of
Worker’s Compensation (BWC) is switching to
prospective billing July 1st for private employers.
That means that the workers’ compensation premium policy period is moving from a six-month
period to a full fiscal year; (it will run from July 1,
2015 to June 30, 2016.)
Public employers, who will transition to the
prospective billing January 1, 2016, will remain on
a calendar year policy period.
As part of this new prospective billing implementation, enrollment is currently underway for
private employers to sign up for several of the
Destination: Excellence programs. Destination:
Excellence is a bundle of programs the BWC offers
that help businesses improve workplace safety,
enhance injured worker care, and save money on
workers’ compensation costs.
Private employers may sign up with the BWC
between now and May 29th for these programs:
Industry-Specific Safety Program: a 3% premium rebate for completing loss prevention
activities;
Drug-Free Safety Program: a 4% to 7% premium rebate for incorporating an alcohol and
drug testing and education program;
Transitional Work Bonus Program: up to a
10% premium rebate for successfully returning an injured worker released with restrictions back to work.
BWC’s new Destination: Excellence brochure
includes more details about the programs and the
enrollment deadlines.
Coming soon in late May, the BWC will mail
private employers a notice of estimated annual
premium. This notice will be based on your reported payroll for July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014. It
is not a bill, but please review it for accuracy and
contact the BWC if you feel something is incorrect.
For additional information on the prospective
billing process, including timelines, frequently
asked questions and key dates to remember, visit
the BWC website @ www.bwc.ohio.gov.
Update on Travel Program
The August trip to Asheville, North
Carolina planned through the Salem
Chamber’s new Travel Program has
been cancelled due to lack of participation. Thank
you and stay tuned for possible other plans.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
BIG CHANGES TO GROUP-RATING THIS YEAR!
There is significant change coming to the BWC workers’
compensation group-rating this year. The groups will
now have to be filed at the end of November 2015 instead
of February 2016. This means that employers will have
to make a decision much sooner to participate in the
Chamber’s group-rating program. This program provides
our members with an opportunity to receive great savings
on the annual premiums paid to the Ohio BWC, and at the
same time support your local Chamber of Commerce by
participating in this Chamber sponsored program.
