To All Nobles, Their Ladies and the Friends of Jaffa,
These last three years have really gone by much too quickly, though the friendships will continue and
grow, I will miss the fun and experiences that Lady Judy and I had with Foster, John, and Vern. They
were great Potentates and friends and I feel humbled that you have shown your confidence and trust in
me by allowing me to join their ranks. THANK YOU, I will try not to let you down.
Membership has been the priority all three years, Foster with” Hand in Hand”, John with “Membership is
our Future” and Vern with “Membership Keeps Us Rollin”. Membership will continue to be a priority in
2015. My motto is “YOU DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE”. Just think about it for a second, each Noble has
influenced multiple lives, directly or indirectly, in the course of his life. He probably didn’t even notice it. If
you can impact a life just by smiling or saying hello, offering a helping hand to someone in need, or
providing a shoulder for someone to lean on without noticing the change you have made to that person’s
life, just imagine what you can accomplish if you are trying! You “do make a difference” and the Jaffa
needs you to put effort into increasing our numbers. Just look at what the Mounted Patrol did in 2014 in
the way of increasing their unit size and earned a free pass to the New Year’s Eve Party for each member and their Lady! Way to go and thanks for showing everyone it can be done! Now I am challenging
them AND EVERY UNIT to do it in 2015 and enjoy the New Year’s Party on the Jaffa.
Lady Judy and I are planning many events, some of which are standard fare at Jaffa and some of which
are new or under new leadership. To name a few: The new Mr. & Mrs. Wedding Expo, Jan 18 new
name, new venue: Sport Show Feb. 27, 28 & Mar. 1, new chairmen new ideas: Aides dinner on Feb. 7:
the Potentates Reception Mar. 21: and an all- inclusive Cancun trip to Secrets Silversands Riviera Maya
Apr. 24 to May 1. The 76th annual Jaffa Shrine Circus Apr. 13 to 19 a crowd pleaser every time!
I and the rest of the Divan look forward to working with and for you this coming year. The Divan cannot

This year’s Kiddies Christmas Party was a

Happy New Year from the Jaffa Concert
Band! We hope you all had an enjoyable
holiday season with family and friends.
Accolades go to our members that brought
holiday cheer to the residents at the
Hillview Nursing facility in Altoona. We
&21&(57%$1'know the residents all enjoyed the concert
and our hope is that we brought them some
great holiday entertainment.
We also participated in the fall ceremonial and welcome all new
Nobles to the Jaffa Shrine!
The concert band happily played for the annual Kiddies Christmas
party in December. Afterward, a pizza party for members and
their families was held in the band room.
A huge thank you goes out to some guest instrumentalists, including John Eichelberger and Scott McClellan, who helped us out
during the holiday season.
Congratulations to Bob Baranik as he moved up from Oriental
Guide to High Priest and Prophet.
As always, we are looking for new members, especially wood-
winds. Anyone who is or ever has been an accomplished musician, no matter what the instrument, is welcome to join us. We
would love to have you in the Jaffa Concert Band. Come join us
on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

Well, we are into a New Year. In some areas,
we hope things improve, and in others we sincerely hope that it is a continuance of fine work

So much for the 1st report this year. As previously stated, I
was hoping for a replacement as Secretary so we did the
next best thing and created an Assistant Secretary. I guess
that will do for now. I want to wish all of Jaffa a very successful 2015 and hope everyone can do their part to help.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS

Recently, the Altoona Area School District and the
Jaffa Shrine teamed together to host two community-sponsored basketball tournaments this holiday
season—The Altoona Lady Lion Tip-off Tournament for the Lady Lion girls’ basketball team
on December 5th and 6th and the Mountain Lion
Boy’s Basketball Holiday Tournament on December 29th and 30th. Both tournaments were held at
the Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse.
Proceeds from both tournaments were donated to
Shriners’ Children Hospitals to provide services
and care for many needy children. Shriner’s Hospitals specialize in providing orthopedic, burn, spinal
cord injury and cleft lip and palate care to children.
The Altoona Area School District and the Jaffa
Shrine would like to thank the many local businesses that supported this worthwhile cause. If
