Happiness House Students Win Statewide Art Contest
“Handprint Farm” by Canandaigua Pre-School Students, selected as Artist of the Year by the
Cerebral Palsy Association of New York.
A group of 33 preschool students at the Canandaigua site has been named “Artist of the Year” by Cerebral Palsy
Associations of New York State (CP of NYS). The collaborative work entitled “Handprint Farm” is featured on a limited
edition poster containing 118 pieces submitted by CP of NYS Affiliates. The artists were also honored at the CP of NYS
Annual Awards Banquet. “Handprint Farm” was made by the classes of Happiness House teachers Jamie McKenna, a
Universal Pre-Kindergarten teacher, and Special Education teacher Anna Spoor.

Sigma and Sodexo marketing students held an Italian Feast fundraiser,
which will become an annual event.

Art Garvey and Max Johann, Hobart and William Smith football players
raised funds to benefit Happiness House by hosting the first annual Quad
Olympics on campus.

The Elks held their annual Freezefest Polar Plunge in April. Marge
Donhauser designated part of the funds she raised to our traumatic brain
injury program.

Geneva Foreign & Sports held their second annual car show to benefit
Happiness House.
•
Peter Roberti, owner of Adrian Jules in Pittsford held their 3rd Annual
Happiness Run fundraiser. This event has raised $26,781 for the Founders
Society campaign over the past three years!
Our reputation as the premier provider of Autism services continues to grow.
This summer we made a difference in the lives of a family that had been told
they would have to wait 6-9 months to have their child evaluated for Autism
services. Upon referral to us, his evaluation process was completed within 6
short weeks, allowing him to receive immediate enhanced educational and
social/family services. Also, since one of our School Psychologists is bilingual,
we were able to serve three area Latino families by providing evaluations for
their Spanish speaking children.

The Teens & Tweens program at Happiness House is available to individuals between
the ages of 9-21, and provides support for homework and study skills on a daily
basis during the school year. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a
4-H program.
Happiness House in collaboration with United Way of Ontario County, Inc. has
created an after school program to serve children in the Ontario County area.

Susan B. Anthony Reenactment
In collaboration with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR),
Happiness House’s Traumatic Brain Injury Structured Day Program participants
performed a reenactment of the 1872 sentencing of women’s rights activist
Susan B. Anthony and her response. Actors Ruth Johnson, Chuck Craig, Carl
Beach and Steve Reardon performed at the Ontario County Court House,
where the sentencing actually took place.

Congrat
Mary Walsh Boatfield, Chief Executive Officer at Finger Lakes
United Cerebral Palsy, Inc./Happiness House has been presented
with the Daniel Weider Award for Executive Leadership at the 2012
New York State Cerebral Palsy Conference. This award recognizes an
executive whose high level of leadership has set a standard for others to
follow and whose dedication has improved the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
Ms. Boatfield has been recognized for the Athena Geneva Award for 2009 and the 2010 Women of Distinction by
Senator Michael Nozzolio. Finger Lakes United Cerebral Palsy, Inc./Happiness House was named Business of the
Year in 2008; and currently Mary serves as Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce. Mary increased services
and the agency budget by 100% providing services to more than 1,200 individuals with and without disabilities
and their families, employing 225 individuals; and are the 13th largest employer in Ontario County.
Ms. Boatfield became the CEO of Happiness House/Finger Lakes United Cerebral Palsy, Inc in 2001. During
this time, the agency has doubled and has developed a new corporation, the Happiness House Foundation,
which includes a comprehensive planned giving component. Recent projects to enhance growth and economic
development under Mary’s direction include: launching a three million dollar Capital Campaign project,
opening the agency’s first community residence for youth, constructing a new 23,000 square foot building in
Canandaigua and a 4,500 square foot expansion project in Geneva, the completion of a one of a kind transitional
home; and with Senator Michael Nozzolio’s support, the only developmental/autism and diagnostic clinic in the
Finger Lakes area was opened. Happiness House continues to be the leader in the provision of autism services
in the Finger Lakes.
Ms. Boatfield is a dedicated, devoted CEO that prides herself in providing the highest quality programs and
services to children and adults with disabilities and to their families in the Finger Lakes region. She is an
instrumental part of “What Happens Here Changes Lives Forever”.

Here we grow again!
Our transitional home is now complete
and is filled to capacity. The residents
are doing very well and have settled in
to a productive routine which builds
their life skills in preparation for further
integration into the community.

We have received a $52,000 grant from
William Rayburn to begin the process
of building a 20 unit apartment
building at the Canandaigua site.
These apartments will house adults
with disabilities and traumatic brain
injury who live independently and
privately but would benefit from a
living situation where help is nearby
when they need it.

Founders Society
The Happiness House Foundation is a not for profit organization established to raise and generate funds that will promote, support and augment
the continuation of long term services for people with disabilities offered by Happiness House in Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Wayne Counties. It is
this mission that has led us to create the “Happiness is Helping” Founders Society.
An endowment is an organization’s financial cornerstone, the foundation of its ability to incite progress in education, consumer care, and therapeutic
equipment. Through allowing an organization to be less dependent on unpredictable sources of revenue, such as government aid, endowments
ensure that promising programs, individuals, and initiatives have the unwavering support they need.
Establishing an endowment is an act of great generosity and vision. Donors who decide to create an endowment do so because they understand
the significance of supporting the organization not only during their lifetime, but well into the future. It is our privilege to recognize those who
stand with us to ensure that all individuals receiving services from Happiness House - both now and for years to come - will experience “What Happens Here Changes Lives Forever.”
