The Outback Bowl had a successful off-season this year as officials were able to secure six-year contract extensions with four key partners: Title Sponsor Outback Steakhouse, ESPN TV, The Big Ten Conference and The Southeastern Conference. The commitments, which begin after the upcoming 2014 game, will extend through the January 2020 Bowl Game. Outback Steakhouse’s name sponsorship of the bowl will take their partnership to a total of 25 years, the longest college bowl game title sponsorship in history. “It was an easy decision to continue to support two things we are very passionate about – Tampa Bay and great college football,” said Jeff Smith, President of Outback Steakhouse. “We’re headed into our nineteenth year as the Outback Bowl sponsor and Outback Steakhouse is proud to be the longest active title sponsor for any college bowl game.” “It’s an honor for our organization to be associated with the finest restaurant company in the world,” said Outback Bowl President/CEO Jim McVay. Outback Steakhouse is the ultimate corporate citizen in our community. No one has been more generous, more active with charities and more of a proponent of Tampa Bay.” The extension with the SEC and Big Ten continues an 18 and 20 year relationship, respectively, with the conferences. “The Outback Bowl has a rich history with strong ties to the SEC and we are pleased to continue this relationship with such an outstanding post-season game,” said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. “The Tampa Bay area offers a great destination for our schools and their fans and we are excited to continue our relationship.” “Since the Big Ten made its first appearance at the bowl in 1988, nine different conference schools have had the opportunity to take the field in Tampa, and this bowl will continue to be a wonderful and rewarding postseason destination for student-athletes and fans,” Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany added. The Outback Bowl will also continue its partnership with the ESPN TV family of networks, as well as, its tradition in the New Year’s Day lineup where it has been the past 25 years.
