Letter from the Head of School
Greetings TJ Families and Friends,
We are excited to present this catalog for Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School’s seventeenth
annual Escapade Gala and Auction, “Retro Reunion: Celebrating TJ’s Past, Present, and Future.”
Escapade has had a long tradition of bringing the TJ community together for two main objectives.
The first is to celebrate a school that enriches the lives of all of our children, and the second is to
raise money for the school to ensure that the tradition of excellence continues.
Escapade has been a huge success for the past sixteen years because members of the TJ
community have come together to offer their time, talents, donations, and financial support.
These individuals, mostly TJ parents, carry out the many tasks associated with this large-scale
event. Under the leadership of Betsy Nagle, the 2014 Escapade volunteers have been hard at work
for the past six months. Without the efforts of these individuals, none of this would be possible.
I am extremely grateful to them for their dedication to our school. As we celebrate the 20th
anniversary of the school, we would also like to thank and acknowledge all of our past Escapade
volunteers. Without them, this phenomenal event would not be as successful as it is today.
The continued success of TJ’s annual Escapade Gala and Auction is proof that all of us share
a common vision for our children and a larger appreciation for education. Participation in
Escapade at any level, whether it be as a volunteer, attendee, high bidder, or donor, shows support
for a school that is fulfilling its mission and purpose each and every year. We invite you to
participate fully in this year’s event to bring revenue to the school that will help with both current
programs, and help create a secure financial future for the school. Every penny that is raised at
this event goes directly back into the school to enhance our students’ educational journey. We

Big Smitty Band
Big Smitty Band will provide the evening’s entertainment at Escapade 2014. Band
founder, Shawn Smith (a.k.a., Big Smitty), has been performing for more than 30 years
­— everything from church hymns to special sit-ins with Smith Bros. In the late 80’s,
Smitty toured the nation with Panco Entertainment Productions, playing in some 20
states as well as Canada. Smitty has had some long-standing bands such as Smith Bros.,
Big Smitty, Jeda Soul, One Man’s Fate, and many others. Musical influences include The
Beatles, Eagles, AC/DC, Bad Company, Queen, and many other rock bands. Big Smitty
Band is one of the Four-States’ hottest bands and performs a wide range of songs and
musical genres that keep crowds on their feet and moving to the beat.
Good Times Photobooth by O’Neill
During the Silent Auction, the GOOD TIMES Photobooth by
O’Neill will be open. The photo booth is a fun way to capture
the memories of the evening. Props will be available to use.

General Auction Rules
The following auction rules are intended to prevent any misunderstanding or disputes. The goals of Escapade
2014 are for this to be a successful fundraiser and for all attendees to have an enjoyable time.
1. All bidding will be done by the bid number assigned to you when you enter. Use only the bid number
assigned to you in both the live and silent auctions. Use of a bid number in the live and silent auction,
whether successful or not, acknowledges acceptance of all rules and notices.
2. All sales are final. Many items, such as the use of vacation homes, are nontransferable or may be
subject to limitations. Under no circumstances may an auction item be exchanged or returned to the store
or individual who donated it, except where specified, in writing.
3. Items may be removed the evening of the auction only by presenting a paid receipt at the appropriate
table or to the cashier.
4. Item values are donor’s estimates and are not warranted by the Escapade 2014 Auction Committee or
Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School for tax purposes or general use.
5. Unless specified, auction items, services, and trips must be used within one year after February 1, 2014.
Where necessary and as specified, arrangements for use and/or travel is the responsibility of the purchaser.
6. Sales tax will not be collected according to the State of Missouri Department of Revenue. This event is
considered an “isolated sale” by a tax-exempt organization.
7. Payment for auction items should be made by cash, personal/business checks, or Visa and MasterCard.
Checks may be made out to “TJIDS-Escapade.” Successful bidders will be held liable for the value of their
successful bids. All rights of a successful bidder to any item for which payment has not been received by
the evening of the auction are forfeited.
CONDITIONS: Arrangements for use of condominiums or other property privately owned are subject to
agreement between donor and the winning bidder. Specifications and restriction in the catalog are those made
by the donor and are non-negotiable; Escapade 2014 and Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School hold no
responsibility for any representation.

Silent Auction Rules
Live Auction Rules
1. The silent auction tables will open for bidding at
approximately 5:30 p.m. on February 1, 2014; some
tables may open later at the discretion of the auction
committee.
1. The auction will begin with the announcement of the
auctioneer at approximately 8:00 p.m., February 1, 2014,
and continue without interruption until all items have
been auctioned. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the
opportunity to view the various items prior to bidding.
2. Each item in the silent auction has a bid sheet
affixed on or near it. Persons deciding to bid may do so
by writing on the bid sheet on the next available line,
including their bid number and the amount of their bid.
2. USE ONLY THE BID NUMBER THAT HAS BEEN
ASSIGNED TO YOU.

4. The opening bid on each item must equal or exceed
the “minimum bid” stated on the top of each bid sheet.
Each new bid must be written on the next blank line
available on the bid sheet. Each increase in bid must
equal or exceed the “minimum raise” stated on the bid
sheet in order to constitute a valid bid. Silent auction
bids may be disqualified if minimum bid and/or
minimum raise is not sufficient.
5. AN AUTHORIZED PERSON MAY DISQUALIFY
YOUR BID IF YOU ARE BLOCKING THE BIDDER’S
TABLE 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE CLOSING OF
A TABLE.
6. Only an authorized person may nullify a bid.
7. Under no circumstances may a bid sheet be removed
from its designated location.
8. The posted closing time of each silent auction table
represents the approximate closing time and will be
adhered to as closely as possible. Actual closing time
will be accomplished by the auction official when the
bid sheets are collected. The closing bid circled by the
auction official constitutes the winning bid.
In the event that two or more bidders are in the process
of bidding on the same item when the official attempts
to circle the winning bid, the official may conduct a
“mini” live auction between those bidders at that time.
Only individuals with official bids on the sheet may be
involved in the live auction. The official shall determine
the winning bidder. His or her decision shall be final.
3. In order to enter a bid, a bidder must raise his or
her bid paddle high and attract the attention of the
auctioneer and/or his designated spotters. This paddle
must be presented each time you initiate or increase the
bid. Each bid legally obligates the bidder to pay the bid
price, in full, if his or her bid is deemed the high bid at
the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer. Since the auction
will be fast paced, the bids must be made quickly. In the
event of a dispute, the auctioneer shall have sole and
final discretion.
4. On the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer, title to the
item and/or service will pass to the highest bidder, who
thereupon assumes full risk and responsibility therefore.
Pickup
For your convenience, items not removed the night of
the auction must be picked up at Downstream Casino
by Noon on Sunday, February 2, 2014.
Payment
Escapade 2014 will accept as payment, cash, personal or
business checks, Visa, and MasterCard.
