2011
Learn To
Sail
The Deep Cove Yacht Club is a non-profit
organization offering internationally recognized learn to sail programs designed by the
Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) and BC
Sailing. We have certified instructors at every
level and specialize in Wet Feet and Opti
level programs. Our fleet of boats includes
Optimist, Pirate, Laser I & II and 420 dinghies.
4 new Oppi’s were added in 2010 to support
the Wet Feet program.
Our head instructor Kevin Kumar is back
again this year as our new Sailing Director.
Kevin is actively recruiting new instructors
and volunteers for the 2011 summer
programs. If you have any questions about
our summer kids programs or volunteer and
instructor opportunities, contact Kevin at:

ADULT SAILING PROGRAMS
The coast of BC is a world class sailing area
and cruising on a sail boat is one of the best
ways to see the natural wonders. Deep
Cove Yacht Club offers CYA certification for
Keel Boats up to 30 feet in length. We offer
the Basic Cruising Standard and new for
2011 is the Coastal Navigation Standard.
You can see the full course descriptions at
the CYA website www.sailing.ca Education
& Training
Adult sailing courses are coordinated by
Pam Juryn a long time CYA instructor and
lifelong sailor. Pam will guide you through
the course registration and advise what you
need to bring. The timetable for courses are
custom made to fit both students and available instructors. Most common are spring
time courses to get you ready for the boating
season!
Wherever you want to go, CYA certification
will take you there! Contact Pam directly
and start talking about sailing today.

1 week
Designed for younger beginner sailors,
these courses are taught on our fleet
of Optimist dinghies. Opti 1 is the most
basic level, and includes basic maneuvers
and boating safety. The Opti 2 course
helps sailors build confidence in sailing
by themselves. The Opti 1 course runs
on alternate weeks from the Opti 2.
Many students enjoy taking two courses
consecutively. Students who took last
year’s Opti Bronze or Silver should register
in Opti 2.
$445
9am-4pm
2 weeks
These standard courses teach students
the basics of sailing. Topics include onwater skills, sailing theory, water safety,
seamanship and knots. Many students find
that they will complete 1 and 2 in a single
session.

Students will learn some of the more
technical aspects of sailing, about the
importance of teamwork, and personal
safety while sailing on Laser 2 and 420
dinghies rigged with a spinnaker and a
trapeze. Bronze 5 is very challenging and
most students will take two sessions to
complete it.
