“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good
--Sir Edmund Burke, 18th century English philosopher
By radiating charity and mercy to all our neighbors, we
provide those much needed Islands of mercy. Together,
we stand against the wind of the throwaway culture,
and brave its sea of indifference, sustained by Jesus who
is, as Pope Francis Has called Him, “the living face of the
Father’s mercy.”

Fourth Sunday of Easter
Prayers Needed
For Those Who are Sick
Call Karen O’Brien, 630 469-0404 x2108,
with names to be added/removed to this list.
We pray for:
Paul Vasco
Toni Betting
(sister of Marcie Matze)
that they may now enjoy the great blessings of
eternal life. We pray also for their families and friends,
that they may find peace in the promises of Christ.
Today we celebrate World Day of
Prayer for Vocations! Will you take a
few minutes out of your day to pray
for more priests, religious brothers
and sisters, and sacramental
marriages from St. Petronille? In the
US, 3,500 parishes are without a
resident priest, the number of sisters
is down to the amount 100 years
ago, and the idea of sacramental
marriage is in decline for our young people. In our
Diocese of Joliet, the number of seminarians is at a 35year high, with five wonderful new priests being
ordained on May 21. However, more priests are
needed to serve our many parishes. We need your
fervent prayers for an increase in vocations for our
parish and our Church. Here's a simple vocation
prayer from St. John Paul II that can be said each day:
Prayer for Vocations
Lord Jesus, as You once called the first disciples
to make them fishers of men,
let your sweet invitation continue to resound:
Come, follow Me! Give young men and women
the grace of responding quickly to Your voice.
Support our bishops, priests, and consecrated people
in their apostolic labor.
Grant perseverance to our seminarians and
to all those who are carrying out the ideal
of a life totally consecrated to Your service.
Mary, Mother of the Church,
the model of every vocation,
help us to say “Yes” to the Lord Who
calls us to cooperate in the divine plan of salvation.
Amen.
—Saint John Paul II

Youth Ministry
Focus on Faith: Focus on Faith Tonight at 6 pm in the PLACE. All High School teens are welcome to join the
discussion even if you’ve never come before!
Mission Trip Fundraising: As most of you know, Youth Ministry works to raise some of the money for our
mission trips each year. Our families are very committed to the learning experience of sending teens on
mission trips during spring and summer and go to great expense to do so. Two of our MAIN EVENTS are the
Bake Sale and the Heavenly Scents BBQ (see pg. 2 for more information) – both held on May 1. Hope to see you
at one or both of these delicious events! Pre orders for the BBQ are
highly recommended to avoid the RUSH of walk in orders! Questions:

Adult Faith Formation
Is Jesus calling you to the table
to receive Him body, blood,
soul, and divinity? Are you
ready to become a part of the
Catholic Church? Have you
received
some
of
the
Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist,
Confirmation), but not all of them? In the Catholic
Church, Jesus is present not only in the Word, but
also in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Is now the
time to renew and deepen your relationship with
Him?
Come and See: The first step of the RCIA process is
called inquiry. “Jesus turned and saw them
following , and said to them. ‘What do you seek?’
And they said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which means
Teacher), ‘where are you staying?’ He said to them,
‘Come and see.’” Do you have a longing in your
heart to grow closer to Jesus? Do you want to
know where He is staying? You can find him in the
Church He founded – the Catholic Church. “Come and
see” or invite a friend or family member who is searching
for Christ to “Come and see” on any Wednesday at 7pm
in the Parish Office (Door 3). Contact Christine Balaty at
[email protected] or (630)542-6233 for more
information, or just join us on any Wednesday at 7pm to
“Come and See”.

On April 7, the culminating event for this year’s
devotional project, Immersed in Saving Grace, took
place. Fr. John Belmonte, S.J., Superintendent of
Schools for the Diocese of Joliet, was the main
Celebrant of the Mass, which was held at the Divine
Mercy Shrine in Lombard. Con-celebrating the Mass
was Fr. Luis Gutierrez, Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in
Addison. Various students, parents, teachers, and
administrators from our diocesan schools participated.
Four of our 8th Grade students, Julia Ayres, Joey Dwyer,
Matt Oliva, and Gillian Vilimek attended the Mass, and
represented the St. Petronille School community. This
closing Mass marked the official end of this year’s
devotional project, which has had special emphasis on the
Divine Mercy. It was a fitting place for the culmination of
such a project, especially during this Year of Mercy, as
proclaimed by our Holy Father, Pope Francis. The April 7
celebration concluded the fifth year of our Joliet Diocesan
devotional projects.
During this five-year journey
students in our schools have been consecrated to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus, and to the Immaculate Heart of His
Mother, Mary; we have held up the Saints, and we have
learned about and practiced the beautiful devotions of the
Catholic Church. The purpose of re-vitalizing these
devotions has been to deepen our faith, and immerse
ourselves in God’s grace, which was first poured out on us
on the day of our baptism. Through our participation in
such devotions, we come to know and connect
emotionally and more profoundly to our loving God.
Those who attended the
closing Mass at the
Divine Mercy Shrine had
been instrumental in
some way in promoting
and contributing to this
project, the goal of which
is to build Catholic
culture in our schools.
