This is a session that will give all of the kids in the family a chance to share the world of nature together. Come learn about the birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects that call the Sanctuary home! This week we’ll be using nature as our inspiration to create and learn about different forms of art! From clay pot bird feeders to natural tie-dye we’ll have a blast making a mess! Explore the prairies, woodlands, and wetlands of The Wildlife Sanctuary to discover the life that abounds in each of the habitats. Trackers Nature lovers will go “wild” for these hands-on days of exploration, investigation and fun! Entering: 3rd, 4th or 5th Grade Fantastic Fossils June 27-July 1 Come join us in exploring Missouri’s prehistoric past! From crinoids to cave bears and everything in between, we’ll learn about the amazing animals that called Missouri home millions of years ago. Sessions are 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday Refer to “Things to Know” on page 6 Campers must bring a sack lunch & drink Each session is limited to 18 children Cost: $195 (MLTNS members $165) Wilderness Awareness July 11-15 Overnight Included! Learn fun survival skills like shelter building, fire starting, and how to stay safe in the wilderness. The overnight is Thursday 7:00pm – Friday 9:00am. A late night snack and continental breakfast will be provided (There is no camp during the regularly scheduled time Thursday and Friday) Science Magic July 18-22 “It’s alive! It’s alive!” Of course it is, if it lives at the Nature Sanctuary! Learn the science behind animal adaptations as you create crazy concoctions, and dubious-looking snacks, and perform miraculous experiments. =Campers may get very wet 4 Single Day Camps Wilderness Adventure Grades: Entering 1st through 8th August 2 8:30 am - 1:00 pm Come learn basic wilderness survival skills in a fun filled day of adventure. Closed-toed shoes or boots are required Each session is limited to 25 children Campers must bring a sack lunch & drink Campers must bring a towel, change of clothes & extra shoes. Cost: $35 ($25 MLTNS members) Camp T-shirts: $11.00 each *Note: If program demand is high, additional dates may be added Creekin’ Kids Here is a chance for your child to join us for a half-day adventure exploring beautiful Rush Creek. Grades: Entering 1st through 6th August 3 8:30 am - 1:00 pm Closed-toed shoes or boots are required Each session is limited to 25 children Campers must bring a sack lunch & drink YES = Campers may get very wet Campers must bring a towel, change of clothes & extra shoes. Everyone will be able to take home a fossil they make! This program involves getting into the water. Ages recommended 6 & up Closed toed shoes are required This program is limited to 30 people Cost: / family of 4: $50 (MLTNS member $35) $5 / additional member Creekin’ Family Fun July 23 10:00 am – 2 pm Family Night Out Aug 5 & 6 7:00 pm to 9:00 am Discover first hand the amount of life found underneath the surface of Rush Creek! This program involves getting into the water Ages recommended 6 & up Closed-toed shoes are required This program is limited to 30 people Cost: / family of 4: $50 (MLTNS member $35) $5 / additional member Bring your sleeping bags and camp inside the nature center! Experience the Nature Sanctuary at night with hiking, astronomy, and owl prowling. Wake up to a breakfast with the birds! Evening snack and breakfast will be provided Ages recommended 4 & up All children must be accompanied by a parent / guardian Camp is limited to 35 people Cost: / family of 4: $125 , $10 per additional member Camp T-shirts: $11.00 each (MLTNS members $105 / family of 4, $5 per additional member) 6 Things to Know Enrollments are kept low to ensure individual attention and to enhance each child’s experience. Each weekly camp is designed with different a theme so children can participate in multiple sessions. Creative hands-on activities, games, and crafts are age appropriate to encourage learning about nature while having fun. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, nurturing learning experience. Campers’ Behavior & Discipline: All campers are expected to demonstrate behavior appropriate to a group setting. If a camper is destructive or disrespectful to staff, volunteers, or fellow campers, we will remove the camper from the group for a short period of time. Once the camper has demonstrated self-control, he/she will return to the group. The parent/guardian will be notified of our actions at the end of the day. If the problem continues, we will notify the parent/guardian to pick up the camper and he/she will not be allowed to return to camp. Under this condition, no refund will be given. Arriving on Time Camps begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please have your camper(s) at the Sanctuary between 8:15 and 8:30 to ensure camp may start on time and reduce delays. Sanctuary Rules While our programs encourage hands-on learning, we ask that campers do not pick flowers or leaves, or collect other natural materials, unless directed by a Naturalist. Following these guidelines will protect the resources at the Sanctuary and make them available for others to enjoy. Ages Are Not Flexible Due to camp activities, crafts, games, etc. being age specific, we cannot allow children in camps that they are not eligible for. Camp T-Shirts Shirts are included with a five-day camp registration. T-shirts for campers registering in the day camps (Creekin’ Kids, Wilderness Adventure, Creekin’ Family Fun, Family Fossil Find, and Family Night Out) are available, but are $11.00 each. Please indicate the shirt size for your camper at the bottom of the Emergency Contact/Health Information form. Snacks Campers will be served a nutritious snacks during their mid-morning break. Please insure that your child does not bring extra food with him/her as it causes problems among the other campers. If your child has dietary restrictions (such as peanut allergies), please notify the Sanctuary staff at enrollment so we can adjust snacks accordingly. Clothing Children need to dress for outdoor adventures. All programs will involve off-the-trail activities. ONLY closed toed shoes will be allowed in the creek and on the trails. Crocs and sandals may be used indoors only. Shoes may get wet or muddy on any given day. Camps That Involve Water Nearly all of our camps involve some type of water. We use the bodies of water we have on site to educate campers. Strict rules are given to campers and are to be followed in these areas to ensure safety. Swimming will not be allowed during any camp. Look for this symbol under camp titles to identify the camps that may involve getting wet. Things to Bring For your convenience, we suggest the following things: Backpack - to hold everything Extra socks & shoes Change of clothing Shoes that can get wet Shoes must completely enclose the foot. We recommend old tennis shoes or rubber boots. NO sandals, crocs, or water shoes / socks allowed Large plastic bag for storing wet clothing & shoes Towel Lunch & drink (if applicable to the camp) Lunches are not refrigerated Refillable water bottle Please be sure to label all items with your child’s name. Things NOT to Bring Sunscreen & insect repellent (campers should come with it already applied) Toys Nature equipment (everything will be provided) Extra snacks iPods, mp3 players, cell phones or other electronic devices Severe Weather In case of inclement weather (i.e. lightning, heavy rain, excessive heat) it is our policy not to cancel camp. We have alternate activities planned for days that limit outdoor time. NOTE: On rainy days (weather permitting) we will still go outside. Emergency Contact / Health Information Please be sure to fully fill out the Emergency Contact / Health Information Form on the back side of the registration form. We must have this information on file before your child(ren) can be admitted to camp. Camp Evaluations You will be given a short camp evaluation the day before camp ends. Please fill this out and return the following day. Evaluations help us improve our camps and we value the feedback we receive! 7 Registration Information Enrollment Begins: MLTNS Members: Begins March 8, 2016 Open Enrollment:: Begins April 5, 2016 Registration Options: 1. Mail completed registration form and check payable to MLTNS to : 407 N. La Frenz Road Liberty, MO 64068 2. Complete registration form and drop it by the Nature Sanctuary along with payment. Registration forms can be found online at www.NatureSanctuary.com or can be picked up at the front desk of the Nature Center. Cancellation Policy If you must cancel your camp registration, 80% of the camp fee will be refunded if you provide notice 15 days in advance of the camp start date. Camp fees will not be refunded if cancellation notice is given less than 15 days prior to the camp start date. The Sanctuary reserves the right to cancel a camp session. You will receive a full refund and cancellation notice at least 5 days in advance of the camp start date. A confirmation of your child(ren)’s registration will be sent upon receipt of payment. You will be contacted by phone if the program is full or if the camp session is cancelled. For more information or to check on the status of a particular camp, please call (816) 781-8598. About Our EGADS Camp Staff Our camps are taught by a combination of our fulltime, part-time, and seasonal Naturalists and trained volunteers. All camp staff receive a week of intense training and come to us with experience working with children in similar settings. All of our summer staff are enthusiastic, energetic and committed to providing your children with high quality, positive experiences in a safe and nurturing environment.
