How shall I make a return to the Lord
for all the good He has done for me? (Psalm 116:12)
The Parish Budget for Fiscal Year 2015 (7/1/15 - 6/30/16) is based on the giving of our faith family for Fiscal
Year 2014. The portion of our budget contributed in envelopes, checks and loose cash is $1,768,000.00 or
$34,000.00 per week. Contributions for the 44th weekend of the fiscal year were $40,255.00. In the 44th
week of our fiscal year, our budgeted goal for ministry programs and ordinary operating expense is
$1,496,000.00 and our collections are $1,585,290.00. Thank you for your continuing generosity.
May God bless you in your sacrificial giving.
Lord, help me move from comfort to sacrifice.
From the Pastor
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel,
centered on the Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit.
We are inspired by the example of Mary to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by ministering to all.
Annunciation Parish Website: www.annunciationparishabq.org
SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION
Today we celebrate the Feast of Our Lord’s Ascension into heaven. In a certain
sense, we could say that this celebrates the completion of Jesus’ mission of
salvation. What comes next? In the Acts of the Apostles 1:8-9 we hear Jesus say,
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you
shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of
the earth. And when He had said this, as they were looking on, He was lifted up,
and a cloud took him out of their sight.” This, then, is the passing on of the baton to
us, Jesus’ disciples today. We are commissioned to make disciples of all nations, a
challenge for all of us to become witnesses of Jesus’ Kingdom of love for the world.
We need this kind of witness today more than ever, amidst the world’s kingdoms of
hate and violence. Only when they see that we love one another as Jesus has loved
us, sacrificing for one another and forgiving as He forgives us, will the world be
moved to become his disciples. We could never accomplish this mission on our
own. Jesus promises to send us the Holy Spirit. Therefore, like the apostles
gathered with the Blessed Virgin Mary, we too must pray daily for the outpouring of
the Holy Spirit as in this ancient hymn, V eni Creator Spiritus:
Come, Creator Spirit come from your bright heavenly throne, come take possession of our souls, and
make them all your own. You who are called the Paraclete, best gift of God above, the living spring, the
vital fire, sweet christ’ning and true love....Oh guide our minds with your blest light, with love our
hearts inflame; and with your strength, which ne’er decays, confirm our mortal frame. Far from us
drive our deadly foe; true peace unto us ring; and through all perils lead us safe beneath your sacred
wing....
MOTHERS DAY
We are doubly blessed today in that we also honor our mothers. When you consider that
Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is the bride of the Holy Spirit, we may wish to offer our novena
of prayer to the Holy Spirit this week in honor of our dear mothers, both living and
deceased. How many mothers have been vessels of the Spirit by introducing us to God
through prayer and loving service of neighbor? May the Holy Spirit fill all our mothers with
every grace to follow the example of the Blessed Mother in faith, hope and love.
Happy Mothers Day!
ST MAGDALENE OF CANOSSA’S FEAST
Our Canossian Sisters celebrate their foundress, St. Magdelene of Canossa, today, as her feast day
falls on May 8th. One of St. Magdalene’s motto’s was , “Make Jesus known and loved!” What a
simple way to remind us that our mission in life, in whatever state of life and whatever we do, is to
make Jesus known and loved. Let us extend our gratitude to our Canossian Sisters for teaching us
this simple but important lesson which is our real reason for being here on earth!
CATHOLIC HOME MISSION COLLECTION
Next weekend we will take up the annual Black and Indian Mission Collection, which continues
the work begun by St. Katherine Drexel and other great philanthropists to African American and
Native American Catholics. Please be generous to our brothers and sisters right here in the United
States who are in need of our assistance to overcome the challenges they face every day.

uke tells us in both his Gospel and its se uel, the cts of the
postles, that after Jesus had remained on earth with His postles for some
time, He ascended into heaven. Sometimes, we, like the postles, might be
tempted to see the scension as a departure, but it is actually the opposite.
scending into heaven, Jesus is now with all of us here, today – wherever
we are
hy do you stand looking into heaven
ike the postles, we
can’t stand and wonder, for we have all been given a mission by Christ

Additional Greeters are desperately needed at all our Masses!! This is an important
ministry of hospitality, welcoming both long-time parishioners and newcomers who are

Please call the Parish Office to volunteer–Thank you!
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are also needed at all Masses. There is a
particular need for Communion Ministers at the 10:30 am and 12:00 pm (noon) Masses. If

ministry. Training sessions will be held soon!
Please keep the sick and homebound of our parish in your prayers.

Two feasts—the Incarnation and the Ascension—point to the fact that Jesus is
the one sent from heaven. In John s Gospel there are
references to Jesus
being sent from God in heaven Today we celebrate the second feast of
proof—Jesus ascension. It is through Jesus return to the Father that the Holy
Spirit comes on the scene to strengthen us so we can be God s witnesses.
when the Holy Spirit comes upon you...you will be my witnesses
These
words from Acts 1:8, are the missionary call of every Christian. May we be
