Spring Tradition
We all look forward to spring and the uplifting feelings it evokes. Our Recognition Dinner which occurs this time each year also
brings with it uplifting emotions as we share the evening with our honorees and guests. Past honorees have been linked by
common threads that surfaced when each person spoke while accepting their recognition. Themes of family, faith, trust and
dedication ring loud and clear. Tears, laughter and pride have embraced the guests and filled the room.
This year was no different as we celebrated our 40th year of tradition on Thursday, April 23rd at The Willow Room. Established
in 1975 as the Rostraver Business Associations Founder’s Day Dinner, this annual event has evolved in to an evening of
recognition and honor. The Recognition Dinner acknowledges a Business of the Year, Young Professional of the Year and
Community Service Award Recipient.
Business of the Year - Rostraver Shop-n-Save, Bob, Jeff and Scott Duritza
Community Service Award Recipient - Kate Crawford
Young Professional of the Year - Jamie St. Clair Davis, Proprietress of Salon Eye Candy
Our sincere thanks to this year’s honorees, their families and guests in attendance. Please see additional photos on page 10.

Help Needed for Upcoming Events
Committee help is needed for both the Fall Classic Golf Outing and 4th Annual Ladies Night Out.
If you are a golfer, enjoy a good golf outing, or are looking for a way to be more involved with the GRC, then consider volunteering on
the golf outing planning committee. The committee will meet once a month initially, then twice a month as the event grows closer. The
outing is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2nd. Help is needed with securing sponsors, golfers and prize donors.
If you have attended Ladies Night Out in the past, have unique ideas, are direct sales person with good contacts to others in your
industry, or just like having a good time, then consider joining the LNO committee. This year’s event will be held Wednesday,
November 4th. The committee will be responsible for selecting the theme of the event, securing vendors, lining up entertainment, fun
and games and gathering Chinese auction items.
If you would like more information about volunteers opportunities with either event, please call the GRC at 724-929-3329.

Local Howard Hanna Office Supports MVH’s Children’s Free Care Fund
Kids break things – such as arms, legs and fingers. Sometimes they develop illnesses or chronic conditions that need immediate attention. When their families do not have health insurance or the money to pay for the medical care, it can make a bad situation even
worse.
Every December, Howard Hanna Simon Real Estate Services, in
Rostraver, hosts a Choo Choo Chow Chow luncheon to raise funds
for the Children’s Free Care Fund at Monongahela Valley Hospital
(MVH). Tom Simon Sr., broker/owner of the agency, recently
presented a check for $10,000 to MVH. The 2015 donation brings
his agency’s total contribution to the Free Care Fund to more than
$131,000 over the years.
“We are deeply grateful to Tom Simon and Howard Hanna Simon
Real Estate Services for their generosity,” said Thomas J. Cullen,
senior vice president at Monongahela Valley Hospital. "There are
many children in our community who will benefit from this
benevolence.”
Pittsburgh-based Howard Hanna Real Estate Services’ corporate
office and agencies sponsor the Chow Chow luncheons each fall
and during the holiday seasons to provide medical care to children
regardless of insurance or their families’ ability to pay. Mr. Simon
hosted his first Chow Chow Luncheon in 1997 in his office with
approximately 30 people in attendance. After a few years, the

luncheon outgrew his office and moved down the road to a larger
Walman, manager of Howard Hanna Simon Real Estate
restaurant. It was at that time that he decided that since his agency
Services; Tom Simon; Tommy Simon III; Tom Cullen; and
does business in the Mon Valley that the funds should stay in the

Free Care Fund. When the event outgrew the restaurant, Mr.
Simon moved the luncheon to the Club House Grille at Cedarbrook
Golf Course in Rostraver. More than 200 people attended the 2014 luncheon that included a live auction, Chinese auction, 50-50,
bake sale and cash donations.
“Howard Hanna Simon Real Estate Services is proud to support the Children’s Free Care Fund at Monongahela Valley Hospital,” said
Tom Simon. “The hospital is a major resource in the community; and, it is gratifying to work with an organization with a strong
commitment to the people it serves.”
