The extravagant celebrations planned to celebrate the milestone is a farce because the couple has drifted apart and the once cohesive family is now in turmoil. James is a workaholic who provides very well for his family, materially, but is emotionally distant. His wife, Joan, the home maker, has no material needs but is starved for affection and attention. The children, Toni (18) and Casey (16) are aware that the family is in trouble but are unsure of how to deal with it. Toni is concerned and wants to do her part to stabilize the family. Casey, however, is more selfcentered and prepared to let the chips fall where they may as long as her standard of living is not compromised. As the plot unfolds it exposes the effects of neglect and misplaced priorities on the family as both parents seek consolation and comfort from all the wrong places. Hours before the big event, things take a dramatically wrong turn, threatening the success of the evening’s event and the future of the entire family. Click to download images Director’s Statement The Gift Everlasting is a realization of a dream that began over a decade ago. Based on my first theatrical play, The Gift, this film is a constant reminder of the dangers of materialism to family relationships in a world filled with technology and where personal interaction and communication is a dying art. I’ve had personal experience with this particular issue, a good husband whose priority was providing for the material needs of his family, as all good husbands should while neglecting the far more important need for emotional closeness and personal availability. Families drift along in this state everyday. There were many challenges directing this film. Apart from the usual financial issues associated with independent films, the challenge of stepping from behind the scenes to play Sandra, the antagonist, was one that took great fortitude. I had to direct myself with the assistance of the assistant directors who saw her character slightly different from the way I did. As the writer and director, however, I had insight into the character I had created. I knew her back story which brought additional elements to bear. Also challenging was transforming the directing from a theatrical production to cinematic, which wasn’t new in itself since I had also written and directed the award-winning film Just Another Friday. However, the lead actors were considerably younger than the characters they had to play and this meant working closely with them to develop and portray traits way beyond their years. I am proud to say they pulled it off admirably. However, 'THE GIFT EVERLASTING' does just that in a well-made production by BarriVision Productions written and directed by the husbandand-wife team of Judith Falloon-Reid and Michael Brown. Partnering with the Jamaica Youth for Christ movement, this feature film is in keeping with their vision to offer wholesome, quality, life-changing films for movie lovers that can to help bring about a positive transformation in our culture through film. Premiered in Kingston in 2014 to a standing-room-only audience, the film presents much food for thought while entertaining the audience with excellent acting, attractive sets and a fulfilling story. Set in Kingston, Jamaica, the story explores the emotions of a family during the 20th anniversary of the husband and wife in which the special celebrations planned to celebrate the milestone are a farce because the couple has drifted apart and the once cohesive family is now in turmoil. The husband is a workaholic who provides very well for his family materially, but is emotionally distant. His wife, the home maker, has no material needs but is starved for affection and attention. As the plot unfolds it exposes the effects of neglect and misplaced priorities on the family, as both parents seek consolation and comfort from all the wrong places. Hours before the big event, things take a dramatic wrong turn, threatening the success of the evening’s celebrations and the future of the entire family. How the problems are resolved because of the Christian foundations of the marriage, makes the film an unusual landmark of cinema fare. This is not the first film with a Christian story line for BarriVision. In 2012 their first partnership with Jamaica Youth For Christ produced the company's first feature 'JUST ANOTHER FRIDAY' that won the Best Jamaican Feature Film award at the 2013 Jamaica International Reggae Film Festival. Director-writer Judith Falloon-Reid is one of the rare female Jamaican film directors and the two films graphically show her and her husband's commitment to making a positive input in the Jamaican film history. Given the excellence of their work, especially in this second feature, I hope they continue to make their unique contribution to Jamaican culture and society. You two should be very proud of the work, I will say you are going to save marriages with this work. They just have to view and think of their journey. You had some humor in the earlier stages, the job and its toll on the family (even a successful family), Vanesa Clark was great… did I say great... Andrew carried his role well and his character grew on you as I went through the movie. The last 10 minutes the sunset, the music and the smiles were really good. Not many films do I really want to see twice, but I will at least put this on my TV and watch again.” Brian Cline Festival Director, Florida Movie Festival CREDITS CAST The Family James Mongrove Joan Mongrove Toni Mongrove Casey Mongrove Joan’s mother Joan’s father The Home Wreckers Phillip the Love Interest Sandra the antagonist The Voices of Reason Bartender The Pastor Felicia Paul (James’ brother) CREW Andrew Jones Vanesa Clarke Venecia Francis Venessa Watson Kayla Wilson Marc Haase Director Judith Falloon-Reid First Assistant Director Andrew Jones Writer Judith Falloon-Reid Producers Michael B.
