Congratulations Katie Grover. Project Development Director. Welcome Helen The Jig-So team welcomes new Project Development Director, Helen Jenkins What’s been the best thing about working for Jig-So, so far? Can I bend the rules and have two things? Thanks! I would say the “staff” and also the potential I see for Jig-So in the future. At school, what were you good at? Talking... oh and bending the rules! No, seriously, I guess apart from languages which I was dreadful at, I was OK at most things. I was best at the sciences which I went on to do at university. Who in history do you most admire? A lady called Kate Hosali. She and her daughter, Nina founded SPANA (Society for the Protection of Working Animals Abroad) in 1923 after they witnessed the dreadful suffering of animals on their travels in North Africa. If you want a story about courage, dedication and determination then look no further than Kate Hosali. Remarkable. What’s your favourite fast food? That’s quite a change of subject... pizza, definitely pizza. What’s your coolest article of clothing? A pair of brown Italian leather wincklepicker boots bought for me by my husband, Matt on our honeymoon. I used to wear them all the time but I’m a bit too old for them now! What’s your favourite article of clothing? A tatty old, fleece-lined dark grey cable-knit wool cardigan. I live in it at home in the winter. It doesn’t look too good with the winklepicker boots though! If you could go on a trip anywhere right now, where would you go? To London, to see my daughter, Catrin. What’s your favourite film? Depends on my mood. I love “In the house” which is quite a deep, French subtitled film but then I also love a chick-flick like “My best friend’s wedding”. What’s your favourite TV programme? I hardly watch TV. It would probably be Match of the Day if Swansea City are featured. What do you do for fun? Cook, walk the dogs, garden, kayak, play badminton... badly. Jig-So Out and About Penrallt Garden Centre Families enjoyed a variety of activities during a recent trip on the Poppit Rocket to the Garden Centre. Thank you to Richards Bros, Cardigan and Penrallt Garden Centre, Moylegrove for their generosity. Halloween! A school Readiness programme is due to start on the 26th November and due to high demand another Babies programme is scheduled for the New Year. ‘I really enjoyed the programme, I especially liked going to the library as I hadn’t put much thought into it, my child liked the interactive books. We registered and now visit the library at least once a month.’ Childcare Students Jig-So staff delivered ‘play’ training to 12 Coleg Ceredigion level 2 and 3 Childcare students. The day was split into indoor play and outdoor play. Breastfeeding Support Group The Jig-So/Cardigan Breastfeeding Support Group have had a busy few months—they held a ‘Meet and Greet’ and were visited by parents to be from the antenatal classes. Dietician Kate Shelley came to offer advice and support regarding food and diet and Holistic Therapist, Caron James showed the group some relaxation techniques and therapies. Turn2us Ambassador Family Support Outreach Worker and Turn2us Ambassador Ruby Whithouse along with Jig-So Chair of Trustees, Linda Grace, received an invitation and all expense paid trip to the Turn2us AGM and lunch in London. Jig-So and Turn2us, a benefit awareness charity, have worked together on many occasions to help raise benefit awareness and Jig-So’s Office Manager, Kristie Gordon continues to facilitate courses on behalf of Turn2us. Pictured with Ruby Whithouse is Pat Cripps of Turn2us and Clare Crookenden, the Prince’s Countryside Trust Fund Manager. Coffee Morning Jig-So held a successful coffee morning at the Guildhall in October. Staff generously donated their time and raised over £200. Thank you to everyone for their support. Your Comments ‘As a childminder we like to attend the story telling. The venue is good and the children enjoy the sessions. The staff are good at understanding that the children may not just sit down. I am a Welsh speaker and am happy that stories are told in Welsh, we always attend when they have a guest’ ‘I love these courses that Jig-So lay on, they involve the whole family and not having to travel far to go on the course was brilliant.’ ‘Every Monday I come into the Centre to see what they are making for lunch. I don’t want my children to pick up my bad habits. We now eat homemade soup and potato bakes, I didn’t realise that you could hide vegetables so easily.’ Story Time Jig-So continues its ‘Story Time’ sessions at Theatr Mwldan on Tuesdays from 2pm until 3pm.
