PEDALBOARD RIG-RUN-DOWN NOVEMBER 2012 INPUTS The Guitar Signal can enter the pedalboard in two ways; 1. via a guitar cable to an INPUT Neutrik ¼” combo Jack on the right-hand side of the pedalboard, or 2. via a LINE6 G30 Wireless Receiver Those two options are switched using a custom manual A/B switch attached to the Input side of the G30 Wireless receiver. From the output of the A/B Switch, the Guitar signal is sampled by the INPUT half of an ISP Decimator G-String Noise Gate. (Since the TBWP is switching the Wah Pedal On/Off, the CAE Wah has been forced “ON” using a plastic washer on the Wah’s On/Off switch.) The CAE Wah also has a modification for external access to the “Q” potentiometers for the Yellow and Red Fasel Inductor. MIDI THRU MIDI IN G-LAB (M4L) MIDI LOOPER PREAMP The above four effects precede the MESA-BOOGIE V-Twin Tube Preamp pedal where the main “tones” are generated. When the V-Twin is in bypass, the clean tone is generated in the guitar amp which is set to the clean channel. The other two V-Twin Switchable modes are CRUNCH and BURN which add various increasing amounts of overdrive to the Guitar Signal. A Plexiglas Cover keeps the control settings from inadvertent changes. The GSC-2 has an additional six True Bypass Loops that can be accessed in any ON-combination of the following six effects via GSC-2 Presets… [MXR EVH PHASE 90 PHASE SHIFTER, Voodoo Lab SPARKLE DRIVE, Voodoo Lab MICRO VIBE and BOSS BF-2 FLANGER (Japan), CE-3 STEREO CHORUS (Korea) and DD-3 DIGITAL DELAY (Japan)]. The last three effects are hidden under a hinged panel that was referred to above. All of the above Boss effects have been modified so that they are “ON” when the pedalboard power is turned on. There are also four Amp Control jacks on the GSC-2… two of those Amp Control outputs are connected to the V-Twin Preamp to automatically switch V-Twin channels (BYPASS and CRUNCH/BURN) on a preset basis. The TUNER Output of the GSC-2 feeds the input of a Sonic Research ST-200 Strobe Tuner and the final OUTPUT of the GSC-2 feeds the DECIMATOR half of the ISP Decimator G-String Noise Gate. The ISP DECIMATOR G-STRING has been repackaged into a Hammond 1590B Diecast box with a footswitch, LED and threshold control. The GSC-2 has a WAH PAD input that allows connection to the G-LAB True Bypass Wah Pad SENSE output allowing a special GSC-2 MODE where other effects are added when the WAH mounted to the TBWP is activated. This allows you to switch a preamp channel or add a Boost or other effect when you activate your WAH Pedal via the TBWP. The Boost DLA is not True Bypass, but, it allows the delay to trail when it is switched out after a guitar solo; so there is no abrupt delay cut-off. The Boost DLA is used for solos to get delay, delay trails, and 6-9dB of clean Boost when kicked in. The Boost DLA is modified with a control jack to allow connection to one of the GSC-2 Amp Control outputs so that the Boost DLA can be switched “On” via GSC-2 presets. The Stock Boost DLA Bypass switch is Momentary and the new control jack would normally be wired in parallel with the stock Bypass switch requiring a momentary “pulse” to switch the delay on/off, but, since the GSC-2 Amp Control Outputs can be set to Latch OR Momentary, and we are already using two of the Amp Control outputs in Latch MODE to control the V-Twin Preamp channels, there is a requirement for a small circuit board in the Boost DLA battery compartment, (installed between the added Boost DLA control Jack and the actual Boost DLA Bypass foot-switch), that converts a Latch “pulse” from the GSC-2 to a Momentary “pulse” to allow switching of the Boost DLA on/off. Since the Boost DLA’s BYPASS switch is still functional the Boost DLA can be switched in/out anytime without changing GSC-2 presets. The SPB-SC is modified with an internal 12 VAC Transformer for two LITTLITE 12G BNC Gooseneck Lights and another internal 12 VAC Transformer that feed power to the MESA-BOOGIE V-TWIN Preamp. EFFECTS POWER The SPB-SC Pedalboard has eight isolated 9 VDC outputs that feed various effects and the G-LAB GSC-2 has an additional six DC outputs in 2 isolated groups. One of the isolated group’s outputs exclusively feed the Voodoo Lab Proctavia as it uses a positive ground and must be isolated from the other effects. A separate LINE6 9 VDC power supply feeds the Guyatone Micro Octaver. OTHER OUTPUTS The MESA-BOOGIE V-Twin preamp has a compensated recording output that has been cabled to a left-hand ¼” jack labeled REC (RECORDING) that is handy for recording ghost guitar tracks in the studio. Another ¼” left-hand jack labeled PZ (PIEZO) is fed from the RING of the INPUT Neutrik ¼” combo Jack on the right-hand side of the pedalboard and caries a PIEZO Guitar Signal only when a Stereo cable is inserted between that INPUT and a Guitar with a Graph Tech Acousti-phonic Preamp installed. That PIEZO signal can then be modeled using a Fishman Aura 16 imaging pedal and fed to the P.A. via a Radial J48 Direct Box.
