Esperanza is looking to restock
emergency supplies for fire, natural
disasters, and lockdown safety. We
estimate the cost to make our
campus and our students and staff
safe to be about $3 per student for
approximately $3000. But we
need your help!
We are looking for the following
supplies: battery operated AM
radios, blue tape, bullhorns, clip
boards, dust masks, flash lights,
grease pencils, hard hats, heavy duty
construction gloves, goggles,
masking tape, plastic tarps, pry bars,
shovels, shut-off tools, stretchers,
two-way radios, yellow caution
tape, and large 40 gallon trash cans
for storage.
Supplies can be dropped off on
West Campus at the front
office. Just drive up and drop the
supplies off in the office.

Greetings Aztecs! It
is hard to believe we
are already well on
our way into the
second quarter. The
holidays just flew by
us. We have many
things to be proud of
at Esperanza and we
are excited for the second half of the
school year.
Each year, Newsweek ranks U.S. schools
on academic rigor and their faculty’s
ability to challenge students with
Advanced Placement (AP) and college
level courses and tests. This year there
were 1,600 schools ranked with only 6%
being public school. We are happy to
report that Esperanza was ranked 788
nationwide, a great accomplishment by
our faculty and students.
interested in entering the medical or health
occupation as a career. This academy is
also very hands on and teaches students
the principles that are related to medical
profession. There are three pathways in
this academy which places students in a
great position heading into college or the
work force. There is the Licensing pathway, the Para-Professional pathway and
the professional pathway. The Professional pathway helps with entrance to the UC/
CSU schools. All of these pathways help
with immediate employment in a medical
field since there is approximately a 27%
increase in medical jobs that are needed in
Orange County.
We have many great programs at Esperanza High school but we would like to recognize our Engineering and Manufacturing program. This program is geared

PTSA President’s Message
On behalf of the Esperanza PTSA, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I hope that you enjoyed some quality time with your family over the Winter Break. We have hosted a lot of informative and
educational PTSA events over the past several months with many more to come in this New Year.
I thank all of our dedicated PTSA members who work to bring Esperanza the many programs that benefit our
parents and students. We had record turnouts for our Aztec University Financial Aid Night and Community
College Night with over 200 people attending each evening. We also are recognizing our students continuously through our
Student of the Month Program. Also, our PTSA students organized a wonderful Holiday Staff Treat Day to show our teachers and administration how much we value them!
Looking ahead, we continue with our Aztec University Program: FAFSA Night on Wed., January 5th. If you want detailed
instructions on filling out this important Financial Aid document (especially Senior parents), please join us at 7pm in the Library. In February, we will be offering a Mock SAT, ACT or PRA test on Saturday Feb. 26th. This is a great way for students
to “practice” taking any of the three tests. The following Wed., March 2nd, we will a “scoresback” night where your test results
are returned and explained to you. More information will be on-line under the PTSA tab on our EHS website.
Other upcoming programs that our PTSA members are working on are, Honorary Service Awards, Creative Arts Awards and
Distinguished Aztec Academic Recognition Awards Night and many more.
My last update is PTSA Membership. I cannot stress how much you and your students joining PTSA and your $15.00 Membership Dues mean to this school. This money allows us to put on wonderful programs for your children. I know that these
are not the best economic times, and we must selectively choose how to spend our money, but the education and recognition of
our students is a worthy investment. MEMBERSHIP IS ALWAYS OPEN! If you have not joined yet, please consider doing
so. You can print off our Membership Form from the EHS website under the PTSA tab and drop it off in the office. We welcome your involvement if you have the time, but your financial investment alone also helps us greatly. Please consider joining.
Thank you all and hope to see you at our PTSA events!

HONORARY SERVICE AWARDS NOMINATIONS
Each year the Esperanza High School PTSA recognizes staff, students and parents who have gone "above and beyond"
the norm in their service to EHS, our students and youth of our community. The PTSA makes a donation to the
California State PTSA in honor of the awardees. This donation is used by the CA State PTA for low interest loans and
professional education of those working in areas serving children and youth. Please download the nomination form from
our EHS website at www.esperanzahs.com under the PTSA link. Or, you can stop by the Esperanza front office to pick
up the form. All recommendations will be considered, and the selection will be determined by the HSA committee.
Please include the name, position and reason why you feel this person should be considered, along with your name
and phone number. Any staff member, parent, student or community member is eligible. If you have any questions,
please call Sue Gold at SueGold@[email protected]. Please consider nominating someone who you
believe has made a difference to all our students at Esperanza!
Submit your recommendation by Thursday, January 27, 2011 to the PTSA box in the main office
or e-mail the form to SueGold@[email protected].
These Honorary Service Awards will be presented on March 21, 2011 in a ceremony in the EHS Library.

EHS In The News
Newsweek lists Esperanza as one of
the 2010 best high schools in America.
Only 6% of all public high schools in the
country make the Newsweek list of slightly
over 1,600 schools. Congratulations Aztecs!
Congratulations to John King, EHS
Women’s Soccer Coach for being named
NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year.
Members of the EHS Speech and
Debate club earned high recognitions at the
Winter Classic Invitational and the Cypress
College Invitational. Three students, Sean
Gaulden, Gavin Rose and Stephanie Shin
have been invited to compete at the National
Tournament of Champions in Spring 2011.
237 EHS students earned the designation of AP scholar by the College Board in
recognition of their exceptional achievement
on the college-level Advanced Placement
Program (AP) Exams.
Alumni Scott Myrick and Ashely
Gonzales were featured in this past season
of the hit television show Dancing With the
Stars. Both are 2010 EHS graduates.
Safety First Continued from Page One:
Two of our local boy scout troops have volunteered to
prepare portable bathrooms for use in each of
the classrooms in the event of a lockdown. We are
grateful for their donation and work. If your organization can help with supplies or monetary donations, we
would greatly appreciate it.
We are especially in need of monetary donations in
order to buy 2 (500 person) trauma bags. The cost is
$1000 each bag. All donations can be turned into the
Finance Office. Please help us equip Esperanza with
the safety materials that are needed in an emergency
situation.

Leadership Committee
Hey Aztecs!
The PTSA students have been hard at work even
through the holiday season. We began November
with our service learning project "Leadership 101"
planned by our Leadership Development Chair
Brandon Buscaino. Weekly committee meetings helped this
to be one of our
most organized
events! Additionally, Staff

theme being S'mores and Leadership. Hope to
see you there!
