Kellogg Drive Anaheim, CA 92870 (714) 986-7540 EsperanzaHS.com Principal: Dr. Ken Fox Safety First Esperanza is looking to restock emergency supplies for fire, natural disasters, and lockdown safety. We estimate the cost to make our campus and our students and staff safe to be about $3 per student for approximately $3000. But we need your help! We are looking for the following supplies: battery operated AM radios, blue tape, bullhorns, clip boards, dust masks, flash lights, grease pencils, hard hats, heavy duty construction gloves, goggles, masking tape, plastic tarps, pry bars, shovels, shut-off tools, stretchers, two-way radios, yellow caution tape, and large 40 gallon trash cans for storage. Supplies can be dropped off on West Campus at the front office. Just drive up and drop the supplies off in the office. Continued on page 3 Greetings Aztecs! It is hard to believe we are already well on our way into the second quarter. The holidays just flew by us. We have many things to be proud of at Esperanza and we are excited for the second half of the school year. Each year, Newsweek ranks U.S. schools on academic rigor and their faculty’s ability to challenge students with Advanced Placement (AP) and college level courses and tests. This year there were 1,600 schools ranked with only 6% being public school. We are happy to report that Esperanza was ranked 788 nationwide, a great accomplishment by our faculty and students. interested in entering the medical or health occupation as a career. This academy is also very hands on and teaches students the principles that are related to medical profession. There are three pathways in this academy which places students in a great position heading into college or the work force. There is the Licensing pathway, the Para-Professional pathway and the professional pathway. The Professional pathway helps with entrance to the UC/ CSU schools. All of these pathways help with immediate employment in a medical field since there is approximately a 27% increase in medical jobs that are needed in Orange County. We have many great programs at Esperanza High school but we would like to recognize our Engineering and Manufacturing program. This program is geared towards students who are interested in Our band celebrated the holiday spirit by engineering and related occupations as marching in the Main Street USA Disney- career goals. I hope that you enjoyed some quality time with your family over the Winter Break. We have hosted a lot of informative and educational PTSA events over the past several months with many more to come in this New Year. I thank all of our dedicated PTSA members who work to bring Esperanza the many programs that benefit our parents and students. We had record turnouts for our Aztec University Financial Aid Night and Community College Night with over 200 people attending each evening. We also are recognizing our students continuously through our Student of the Month Program. Also, our PTSA students organized a wonderful Holiday Staff Treat Day to show our teachers and administration how much we value them! Looking ahead, we continue with our Aztec University Program: FAFSA Night on Wed., January 5th. If you want detailed instructions on filling out this important Financial Aid document (especially Senior parents), please join us at 7pm in the Library. In February, we will be offering a Mock SAT, ACT or PRA test on Saturday Feb. 26th. This is a great way for students to “practice” taking any of the three tests. The following Wed., March 2nd, we will a “scoresback” night where your test results are returned and explained to you. More information will be on-line under the PTSA tab on our EHS website. Other upcoming programs that our PTSA members are working on are, Honorary Service Awards, Creative Arts Awards and Distinguished Aztec Academic Recognition Awards Night and many more. My last update is PTSA Membership. I cannot stress how much you and your students joining PTSA and your $15.00 Membership Dues mean to this school. This money allows us to put on wonderful programs for your children. I know that these are not the best economic times, and we must selectively choose how to spend our money, but the education and recognition of our students is a worthy investment. MEMBERSHIP IS ALWAYS OPEN! If you have not joined yet, please consider doing so. You can print off our Membership Form from the EHS website under the PTSA tab and drop it off in the office. We welcome your involvement if you have the time, but your financial investment alone also helps us greatly. Please consider joining. Thank you all and hope to see you at our PTSA events! Sondia Buscaino PTSA President HONORARY SERVICE AWARDS NOMINATIONS Each year the Esperanza High School PTSA recognizes staff, students and parents who have gone "above and beyond" the norm in their service to EHS, our students and youth of our community. Additionally, Staff Holiday Treat Day organized by Katy Edgerly and Tiffany Le was a huge success with PTSA student members at the Holiday Treat Day 42 PTSA students baking a total of 116 dozen treats. The staff really appreciated it and thanks to all that helped with this. A new event this year was our Holiday Carnival supported by Granite Investment Company for the Anaheim Boys and Girls Club. 42 PTSA students worked hard to PTSA Student Members at Staff ensure a good Holiday Treat Day 2010 time for the 137 kids that attended.
