Further in this newsletter we have a list of all our coaches & team managers for everyone’s reference. Also, a big thank you to all our volunteers in the canteen & bar on training nights & match days. It has been great to see all the juniors come out to watch the seniors over the last couple of months and accompany the players, as well as playing small sided games at half time. There are more games coming up and more age groups will be invited out, so keep a look out for further information. All players, please make an effort to attend our home games as all the senior players enjoy seeing you there supporting them. This edition also has a senior player profile in, Vas Parhas (C), & we will continue to do a profile on some of our senior players, who are coaching in the juniors In this newsletter there are also some great offers from our wonderful sponsors, so please take the time to read it and keep up the support. Wishing you all the best for the remainder of the season. Guido Eberle Junior Director Manager of Junior Coaching—Maurice Natale Junior Coaches Michael Matricciani The junior coaches have had a few sessions under my guidance early in the season so that they fully understand what it is they need to achieve out of their training sessions (based on the club’s philosophy of play). These sessions will continue during the season so that coaches can be kept updated on all aspects of coaching. To date it has been a reasonably good start to the season but as always we should strive to become even better. After watching a handful of junior matches so far this season I am quite confident in saying that the majority of teams are performing at a good level and most teams are attempting to play in manner which is in line with the club’s philosophy. To all the junior coaches I would like to express my thanks and congratulations for a good start to the season but also reiterate the importance of staying focussed on what it is we are trying achieving – developing young good footballers worthy of playing in our senior system. Keep up the good work. Michael Matricciani who has been appointed to new role as the Club Academy Coordinator & Principal Coach has been busy taking coaching sessions with each of our squads over the month of April. The purpose of these sessions is for players and parents to familiarise themselves with Michael prior to the start of the Academy sessions which began on the 23rd April. Michael will prove to be great acquisition for the club and a worthwhile experience for any young player wishing to develop their game. Seniors Coaching Juniors How great it has been to have our senior squad players coming to take coaching sessions with our junior teams. The senior boys have really appreciated the opportunity to spend some time with the junior boys, whilst the young boys have responded enthusiastically during the sessions. So far it has been a win win situation with all players benefiting from the experience. These sessions will continue throughout the season, with the seniors also coming out on a few Sundays to watch the junior matches. To all concerned keep up the great work. First Team Matches During the season junior players have attended or will be attending 1st Team matches on Saturday. During the day the young players get to meet the senior players, escort them out onto the pitch and play during the half-time interval. These are worthwhile days as our juniors get to see our senior players in action and may aspire to emulate their senior heroes one day. It also adds to building a great club culture where there are no divides but rather one big family all trying to achieve the same outcome. Let’s all be proud of this club we all belong to! The Campbelltown Philosophy of Play At this club all coaches and players are instructed in a unique manner in order to provide each player with the necessary set of skills, knowledge and preparation so that they may develop their potential to the fullest. At the club we value keeping possession of the ball, which means we don’t just hoof the ball long and hope – we build the play up with a series of passes and movement off the ball by playing out from the back. The goalkeeper is encouraged to pass or roll the ball out to defenders who pass out through the midfield into the attacking third. When the young players are learning to play in this manner there will be errors and most probably concede goals from these errors, which is not a problem as they will improve and on these facets of the game until they attain a high degree of competence. To play this style of football each player must possess good technique in all skills (ball control, passing, correct body positioning, movement off the ball, etc) and sound tactical knowledge (understanding their role within the formation). From Under 6 to Under 11 the focus is on individual player development and making sure each player is equipped with all the skills required to play a full scale match. From Under 12 onwards the focus continues to be skill development but now it is equally important to focus on tactical awareness, formation, team shape, playing roles and competitiveness. However it is important to stress that results and winning at all costs is not what we focus on, rather it is the team & individual performances & development. During the matches parents should encourage and support the team but should refrain from yelling out instructions to players, as this is the role of the coach (whether you agree or not). So as a parent it is vital that you support the club’s vision, the coach and your son/daughter. If we’re all pulling in the same direction it makes the process far easier and enhances your son’s/daughter’s opportunity to become fully developed footballers. The officers are stationed under the veranda of the old club rooms. St Johns are available to assist anyone attending on a Sunday — that includes players, spectators and club officials (home and away). It is very comforting having their presence. Please feel free to approach them if you require assistance. Our club makes a generous donation to St Johns each season in recognition of their support. First Aid Training For anyone that is interested, St Johns offer First Aid Training. No matter what you do, it pays to have first aid skills because you can't learn it in an emergency. St John is Australia's leading provider of first aid training with nearly 400,000 participants across Australia annually. If you are interest in attending a training course, follow the link provided for details. http://www.stjohnsa.com.au/ Note: Also provided on this site are season fixtures. Animal Ban—Croation Sport Centre Please be advised due to a number of unsavoury incidents, dogs (and any other animals ) are now banned from the Croatian Sports Centre. This ban will be strictly enforced. Signage will be displayed at the venue notifying people of the ban. Unfortunately, we have had cases of undesirable behaviour by some parents on match days from several teams and age groups. This behaviour is a bad reflection on our club and, more importantly, sets a very bad example for children and young adults. The FFSA is running the RESPECT programme which aims to ensure our game is free from bullying, verbal and physical abuse and that it is played in a fair and safe environment. Parents and carers must model the behaviour that they expect their children to follow. Therefore it is essential that you play your part and follow the Respect Code of Conduct at all times. Our club takes this matter very seriously and will be addressing this issue with individuals who consistently choose to behave disrespectfully. Please visit the FFSA site to access the Respect programme ressources. http://www.ffsa.com.au/home/respect/respectresources/ Coaches and Team Managers The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Coaches and Team Managers for their valued contribution to the Club. I started playing for my primary school team when I was around ten years old before playing a year of club soccer at U/14. I spent the next three years at SASI after which I was signed by Adelaide City where I began my senior career. How long have you been playing at Campbelltown City Soccer Club? I’ve been here for four years and am relishing every minute of it. The people at the heart of our club are selfless in their commitment towards the growth and development of CCSC and are the reason why I’ve made several lifelong friends in my time here. I feel very grateful to be a part of this great club. How long have you been Captain? This is my first year as captain and I’m thoroughly enjoying the experience. How much responsibility is it to be Captain? I feel honoured and very humbled to have been elected captain. Our club is an extremely proud one with a rich history and my responsibility is to lead by example in upholding this pride and tradition. I’m fortunate to be part of such a strong leadership group from the coaching staff to the other senior players and the support they provide is outstanding. Do you have a favourite soccer team – local and/or overseas? I’m a die-hard Manchester United fan and have been lucky to see some great players pull on the red-devils shirt. I’ve brainwashed my son Giorgio into supporting the club also and he’s become even more fanatical than myself. Do you have a favourite player? My two all-time favourite players are Eric Cantona and George Weah. In the current era, my favourite player is Wayne Rooney. I believe his all-round game is the best in the world by a fair margin. Do your children play soccer? My son Giorgio plays for CCSC U/7 and my daughter Panae plays as goalkeeper in the back-yard. Giorgio has already developed a deep love for the game, much to the detriment of his schoolwork. Panae has begun playing netball and thankfully my wife Tanya was a netballer so she’s taken up those coaching duties. How long have you been coaching and how do you find coaching U7s This is my second year coaching and I’m enjoying the experience immensely. The most rewarding aspect of coaching the U/7s is being able to see the boys develop each session and you can’t help but get caught up in the sheer love they have for the game. From what I’ve seen of all the junior teams, the future of our club looks very bright. What do you do off the soccer field? I’m a Physiotherapist by profession and work as a Manager within the Department of Human Services’ Health and Allied-Health Professional team. When I’m not at work or at the club, I’m usually in the backyard playing with the kids. Preferred position? I enjoy being in the thick of the action so I’ve always been attracted to playing in the midfield. I grew up watching midfielders like Cantona and Keene and was always in awe of their ability to inspire their teammates and control the flow of a game.
