Connect the gas hose and regulator to the BBQ. Ensuring a gas tight seal. 3. Connect the regulator to the cylinder valve. 4. Turn all of the control knobs to the ‘OFF’ position before turning on the gas supply to the appliance. LIGHTING YOUR BBQ Lighting Instructions: 1. Connect the gas cylinder to the BBQ. 2. Turn all the control knobs to the ‘OFF’ position. 3. Turn ‘ON’ the gas supply at the cylinder. Do a leak test before operation as follows: Check with a 50/50 soap water solution by brushing the solution on all joints. Any bubbles showing will indicate a leak. Re-tighten clamps or connection nuts. If a leak persists do not use the BBQ . Consult your local dealer. 4. To light the left hand burner, push down the left hand control knob and keep pressing whilst turning anti-clockwise to the “Full” position whilst pressing the left ignition button sited between the left and centre knobs up to four times in rapid succession. This will light the left hand burner. If it fails to light please repeat this process. Repeat this process using the left ignition button and the centre knob to light the centre burner. To light the right burner, use the same procedure, using the right ignition button and the right knob. You can also light the centre and right burners by pushing down the middle control knob while turning it anti-clockwise to the “full” position. The burner will cross ignite from the burner to its left. Repeat this process using the right burner once the centre burner has ignited. Adjust to the required heat setting. 5. Always light your BBQ in sequence from left to right. 6. If the burner has not lit after two attempts, turn gas control to ‘OFF’ and wait 5 minutes before retrying the ignition sequence. 7. If the burner does not stay alight, please repeat step 3. 8. Once the burner is lit adjust the heat by turning the knob to the High/Low position. 9 . To turn ‘OFF’ the BBQ, close the cylinder valve and turn all of the control knobs on the appliance clockwise to the “OFF” position once the flames have extinguished. Warning: If any burner fails to ignite, turn the control knob off (clockwise) and also turn the cylinder valve off. Wait five minutes before attempting to relight following the the correct ignition sequence from left to right. 4 ROASTING HOOD COOKING !VERY IMPORTANT! (Only applicable for the GBL003) BBQ equipped with a roasting hood give the option of cooking with the hood closed to form an ‘oven’ for roasting food, such as joints of meat, whole chickens, etc. When the hood is closed, a large amount of heat is trapped inside the BBQ. Thus, it is important to make sure that the burner is turned to the low position to prevent burning of the food and damaging the BBQ. Avoid lifting the hood unnecessarily as heat will be lost every time the hood is opened. MANUAL IGNITION 1. Open the gas control valve at the cylinder. 2. Remove the grid. The burners will be visible. First strike a match and hold it approximately 40 mm away from the LEFT hand burner and then turn the LEFT control knob anti clockwise to the HIGH position 3. If the burner fails to ignite after 5 seconds, turn the control knob to the OFF position and wait 2 minutes. Restart the procedure from step 2. If you fail to ignite your BBQ, turn the control knob to OFF, close your cylinder and contact your local dealer for service. FLASHBACK (FLAME IN BURNER TUBE) In the event of flash back whilst the BBQ is in use, turn all the controls and the cylinder valve to the ‘OFF’ position. Wait 5 minutes before attempting to relight the BBQ. If the problem persists, check for blocked ventury ports by removing the burner and cleaning with compressed air or with a pipe cleaner. Replace burner correctly. If problem persists do not try to rectify the problem yourself as this could result in serious injury and/or property damage. Consult your local gas dealer. Store the appliance in a clean dry environment. Do not store your gas cylinder in doors. Store in a well ventilated area away from direct sunlight or an electrical source. CONNECTING THE GAS CYLINDER TO THE APPLIANCE This appliance is only suitable for use with LPG. This appliance is fitted with a 2.8kPa low pressure regulator. BEFORE USE PLEASE CHECK FOR LEAKS Never check for leaks with a naked flame, always use a soapy water solution 5 HOW TO CHECK FOR LEAKS Make 100ml of leak detecting solution by mixing one part washing up liquid with one part water. Ensure the control valve is “OFF”. Connect the regulator to the cylinder.Ensure the connections are secure, before opening the gas at the cylinder valve. Brush the soapy solution on to the hose and all joints. If bubbles appear you have a leak, which must be rectified before use. Re-tighten the clamps or connection nuts. Retest after fixing the fault. Turn off the gas at the cylinder after testing. If the detected leak can not be rectified, do not attempt to cure leak but consult your local dealer. REGULATOR AND HOSE Use only regulators and hose approved for LPG in accordance to the South African National Standards. STORAGE OF THE APPLIANCE Storage of an appliance indoors is only permissible if the cylinder is disconnected and removed from the appliance. When the appliance is not to be used for a period of time it should be stored in a protected/undercover area, safe from the natural elements. It is recommended that you cover your BBQ while in storage. GAS CYLINDER $RUNJ$/9$JDVF\OLQGHUZLWKDǪLQFK BSP left hand thread is recommended. This will match the supplied regulator. Cylinders must be stored in an upright position, well ventilated, damp free area and out of reach of children. CLEANING AND CARE CAUTION: All cleaning and maintenance should be carried out when the BBQ is cool and with the fuel supply turned OFF at the gas cylinder. CLEANING Before cleaning burn off any excess residue. OUTSIDE SURFACE Use a mild detergent or a baking soda and hot water solution. Non-abrasive scouring powder can be used on stubborn stains, then rinsed with water. If you notice that the inside surface of the BBQ lid has the appearance of pealing paint, baked-on grease build up has turned to carbon and is flaking off. Clean thoroughly with a strong hot soapy water solution. Rinse with water and allow to dry completely. NEVER USE OVEN CLEANER 6 INTERIOR OF BBQ BOTTOM Remove residue using a brush, scraper and/or cleaning pad then wash with a soapy water solution. Rinse with water and allow it to dry. PLASTIC SURFACES Wash with a soft cloth and a hot soapy water solution. Rinse with water. Do not use abrasive cleaners, degreasers or a concentrated BBQ cleaner on plastic parts. COOKING GRID Use a mild soapy water solution. Non-abrasive scouring powder can be used on stubborn stains then rinsed with water. GREASE TRAY Please do not remove the grease tray during use. Please check the grease tray regularly and clean out the oil. CLEANING THE BURNER ASSEMBLY Turn the gas OFF at the control knob and disconnect the cylinder. Clean the burner with a soft brush or blow clean with compressed air and wipe down with a clean cloth. Clean any clogged ports with a pipe cleaner or stiff wire (such as an opened paper clip). Inspect the burner for any damage (cracks or holes). If damaged, replace with a new burner. Re-install the burner, check to ensure that the gas valve orifices are correctly positioned and secured inside the burner inlet (venturi). In some cases your BBQ will flash back because of an insect having crawled inside the burner venturi or a spider spinning its web inside the burner. This can be rectified by using a bottle brush inserted through the burner venturi and pushing it into the burner over the burner length. If condition persists consult your gas dealer. SERVICING Your gas BBQ should be serviced annually by a competent registered person. Marketed and Distributed by Alva Marketing (Pty) Ltd P.O.
