ave you ever walked in a park, and pass a balloon vendor, taking a wander and dragging around a string of
colored balloons?
A few days ago, while I was with a friend, she asked me
a question. I never asked myself that question because
the answer has always seemed so obvious to me. But she looked at
me, and said: “You always talk about these fandoms to which you
belong, but what’s a fandom? A group of fans, or…?” I did not answer her immediately. I was lost in my thoughts, trying to clear
my mind. How was I supposed to explain her a fandom is so
much more?
I slowly but surely work up to my point, to what I am
trying to say in this editorial. Let’s go back to our balloons;
this is how I will manage to get to my point. Castle’s fandom may not be the biggest. It may not be the most famous.
And I will not claim we are the most talented or passionate.
But there is something we possess for sure, and that is a family. Each and every one of us is unique, has their own life, their
own color, follows their own destiny, and might be magical like one
of these unique balloons, blown away in a gust of wind.
And is there anything more beautiful than a colored entity? Maybe
a multitude, a farandole of them, linked by a unique bond: Castle.
Wandering in a park, seeing a balloon merchant, have you then
stopped to see those balloons flutter in the wind, to rub up and to
entwine? Notice that it is how a family works. We live, and we meet
people. We share, we fail sometimes, and we love. Orson Welles once
said: “We’re born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through
our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment
that we’re not alone.”
And I would like to say that, today, I am creating this illusion with
all of you.

or this press review, Heat News did some research to give you articles from
all around the world: French articles, of course, but also American, Belgian
and Argentinian articles.
Première
October 2012
The French magazine, dedicated to cinema, has devoted its
Television section to Nathan Fillion, the “Castle’s king”, whom
is qualified as “the ace of the split.” Première stressed the
paradoxical aspect of the actor’s résumé: the two most shows
he had a part in (Firefly and Castle) are very different. On the
one hand, there is the show that survived its cancellation due to
its fans, more connected to the geek culture; on the other hand,
there is a more classic show destined to a wider public.
The magazine also mentions the frequent collaboration between
Nathan Fillion and Joss Wedon, whom the actor describes as
a “bolding, brilliant and disturbing artist”. He is also happy
that everyone recognizes Weadon’s talent through the movie
The Avengers. The actor also talks about his incursion in the
Shakespearian world with the adaptation of “Much Ado about
Nothing” by… Joss Whedon! Questioned about the success of
Castle, Nathan Fillion attributes it to a good timing. The series is
full of dead bodies, but he is mostly light and funny and it is what
people want to watch nowadays.

The daily newspaper named Castle and Beckett “The perfect
couple”. According to the newspaper, the show is the perfect
answer to all romantic dilemmas that have to face the “Moonlight
curse”. Beckett is described as a tough detective, who knows
what she is doing and does it well, and will eventually find her
perfect complement in Castle. The diversity of cases encountered
in the show and Johanna Beckett’s case are highlighted. Finally,
the author of the article concludes that, sooner or later, the two
heroes will accept their feelings for each other (note that AXN
channel aired the last episode of season 4 in the end of October
and the season 5 aired since November 8th).

Geek Magazine
Vol.1 - No.3 (nov 2012)
The most awaited issue of Geek Magazine has kept its promises,
as Nathan Fillion’s fans saw him wearing cult costumes which
have left a mark on the cinema, such as James Bond or Indiana
Jones’ costumes. This article is primarily devoted to the actor
and his love of “comics” and tells anecdotes from his youth. His
entire career is mentioned, and of course, his role on Castle. A
common point between all the parts Nathan Fillion has played
is the pleasure he had to play them. The question is, is Rick
Castle’s part still funny to play? Obviously, it is no longer a daily
challenge for him, but he keeps enjoying it, and it is an incredible
opportunity for an actor to have a regular part. Regarding the
character himself, Nathan Fillion hopes that Richard Castle is not
going to grow up too quickly. He loves his carefree side. And what
pleases him in his profession is that he is able to do things he
cannot do in real life.

October 27th to November 2nd 2012
It is uncommon for a magazine to wonder about
the place of women in a TV show. Télé Loisir fixed
this mistake by capturing the readers’ attention
with a picture of Castle and Beckett on the cover
but also with the title: U.S. series, women in power,
and what it would change. The subject is quickly
set: most U.S series have male heroes. That leave
little place for women, confined to minor parts.
However, these women have evolved over the time
to become more important and more necessary to
the plot. Castle and Beckett are quoted many times
as an example to show the complementarities
between the two protagonists, and what Beckett
brings to the show: a touch of glamour, secret,
badass attitude and sensibility to charm her
partner. Beware, women might take the power.

is the following question: will the dynamic of the
show change once Castle and Beckett are together?

November 5th to November 11th 2012
a huge fan of Richard Castle in this episode.
TV guide presents via an original cover on comic strip background
the adventures of our favorite’s heroes. The article refers to the
episode «The Final Frontier» that aired the following week in the
United States. The plot takes place during the SuperNovaCon, for
which Castle is invited for a book signing of Derrick Storm’s comics.
Several hints to the fans made through the mention of science-fiction
shows, and especially Josh Whedon’s series Firefly, and Beckett’s fan
attitude, are highlighted. It is also about the evolution of Castle and
Beckett’s relationship in the fifth season, more cheerful than the last.
It is also reported that Andrew Marlowe promised to complicate the
relationship between the two heroes. Finally, the article mentions the
episode that aired on November 19, in which Jim Beckett and Martha
Rodgers met.
The article is completed by a feedback of the episode’s shooting,
on which two spaceships commanders met: Jonathan Frakes and
Nathan Fillion, or as we should say, William T. Riker commander
of the Star-Trek Enterprise, and Malcom Raynolds captain of the
Serenity. It is Frakes experience of science-fiction that led Andrew
Marlowe and Robert Bowman to choose him to direct the episode. He
is very familiar with the world of conventions, and he even appears as

Another example: it only took a single newspaper for
many newspaper and websites to claim that Nathan
Fillion and Stana Katic were not getting along anymore.
According to the latest news, they are at war against one
another.
This month there was a recrudescence of articles and
surrealistic interviews, especially in the French press. We
have a theory on this: it is certainly a CIA’s plot to discredit
the show, and prevent it from winning two consecutive
People’s Choice Awards ... No?
On a more serious note, when in an “interview”, Stana
Katic said that Beckett suffers from a syndrome of posttraumatic stress because she killed a man, we have several
hypotheses:
a) Stana Katic has no idea what has been going on in
Castle for the past 5 seasons.
b) The journalist had taken German as his studied
language in high school.

We can only recommend to the authors of these articles
to be more careful in their choice of informants (with the
CIA we never know)
Rule number 1: check your sources
Rule number 0: have sources.
Anyway, even if there was the slightest semblance of
truth in these worlds (despite denials made by some
members of the team), it is not because we work together
that we have to be best friends. Our line of conduct on this
is clear: no intrusion into the private lives of the actors.
Some magazines should learn a lesson from this.

What is it ?
It is a gathering of people with one or more interests in common. Usually, this kind of event last several days, and the persons present can meet people
related to their interests, attend conferences, take
pictures, etc… As we suspect, the definition of what
is it a convention do not interest you any more than
this and you cannot wait to know more about the
Castle convention. So here it is.
CastleTV.net in partnership with the California
Browncoats, organized for the second year in a row
a non-official Castle Convention, which benefits
were donated to charities. Tamala Jones, Penny
Johnson Jerald, Marta Evry, Rob Bowman and
some others honored the fans with their presence.
Heat News has infiltrated the convention, thanks to

to share it with you today.
“Everything begins on a beautiful sunny Saturday
of…November. The Marriott Hotel welcomes us
right next to the Los Angeles airport. It is classy,
not one of those cheap motels, if you know what I
mean.
Saturday, November 17th
On Saturday morning, I can final feel the effects of
the jet lag, as I wake up at 4 am and cannot go back
to sleep…. In less than 5 hours, I will attend my first
convention on a TV show: The CastleCon 2 (the 2
looks like Iron Man 2, I agree with you, but without Robert Downey Jr). At 8.30 am, I arrive in the
lobby where the local Starbuckes offer me a Beckett

the lobby, everybody was drinking his Beckett and some of them were wearing customized Tshirts. Some competed in imagination: “Team Beckett”, “In Marlowe we trust”, “47”, “Heat News: the
burning underside of Castle (though I am the only
one to wear this one) etc.
As I register, I am given a choice: general, extra
and VIP. I was only able to buy a general ticket (the
VIP part went on my plane ticket). Then, I received
a badge, a program and a sheet that specified that
organizers declined all responsibility in case of a
heart attack while taking Penny’s Zumba course in
the afternoon.
A little further, I saw an impressive line: it is the
merchandise table. We could find DVDs, books, magazines, bags, posters, coffee and many other things
at “charitable” prices (it is for a good cause). When

everything had already been
sold: first come, first serve, this is the
hard law of the jungle….
Finally, it was 9am: the Convention started with a
presentation of the event by Dwight, who was part
of the California Browncoats.
Then a young man presented himself; he was Jason Palmer . He is an illustrator and fan of Firefly
(Fans of this show have probably already see his
work). He explained his career, his first creations as
a fan, and his meeting, at a Comic Con booth, with
Nathan Fillion who saw his work and liked what he
was doing. He began to work with Fox for Firefly,
and more recently with Universal for the release of
the Indiana Jones DVD’s. Now, he works with ABC
on licensed illustration and he acknowledged that,
unlike Universal, ABC is really concerned about the
image of Castle.

they gave us a little anecdote about Cuffed. Stana
and Nathan were never in the same room than the
tiger, the scenes were filmed separately.
The hours went by rapidly, they told us how much
they like to use twitter and appreciate feedback from
the fans: “The feedback is amazing”. After that, an
autograph session and a photo session were held in
another room of the hotel. This amazing morning
had ended.
The afternoon started with the second session:
Tamala and Penny. What a show! They seemed to
be in good shapes!
Immediately after the presentation took place an
auction. The pilot script signed by Marlowe and the
cast has been sold at $200. After that, there is the
first Q&A. The guests were Marta Evry, her husband Warren Bowman and Christopher Brow. The
couple takes care of the editing of the series, while
Christopher is a cameraman.
Questions and answers burst out. We learnt that
there was only a shot for the kiss in Always. When
she is working, Marta does not read the script, and
she wanted to make the editing of Always because
she suspected a love scene in this episode.
To the question “Which was the most difficult
episode to edit?” the couple answered Always and
Knockout. Warren had experienced many difficulties with Always because there was a huge expectation from the fans. Marta, on the other hand, did
not expect the tragic death of Montgomery. Also,

This conference made us really appreciate Penny, who was still a mystery for some of us. She is a
wonderful woman, strong and with a good sense of
humor. Do you know she had lost her photographic
memory after a fall? It could have been quite a handicap for her career. However, Penny did not give
up and decided to take some law courses in order
to work on her memory. She began her classes the
day before her arrival on the Castle set. According
to the actress, although our favorite couple is doing
everything to keep their relationship a secret, Gates
already knows about it: “Honey, do you really think
she doesn’t know?” So we are impatient to find out
how she knows it, and we are dying to see what will
happen when Beckett and Castle will find out that
she knows. This definitely could change the image
people have of her, because she will accept and preserve their secret.
“And Tamala? What did she say?” I sense you are
going to ask. She is still popular to the fans and she
admits that the character of Lanie was not written
for a non-Caucasian woman, but she managed to
convince Marlowe that she was made for the role.
We were looking forward to knowing what their
favorite scenes were. Tamala told us that, without
the shadow of a doubt, her favorite was the one
where Beckett is in the closet at the beginning of
After the Storm.

Penny, on her part, said she loved the one where
“they are making love by shaking their hands”.
They definitely know how to talk to Caskett shipers.
Do you want one last secret for the road? Penny
told us that Nathan’s lips are soft thanks to Nivea!
This Q&A ended on an emotional moment: Tamala sang to us a portion of the song “Comes love”. I
came out of this session full of energy, as the two
actresses had some to share.
It was time to put on lighter clothes as we were
back in the room for a Zumba class given by Penny
and her teacher. A dance class full of emotion! 7
ounces lighter, we took a break especially to take
some rest and be mentally prepared for the next
day.
Sunday, November 18th
Sunday morning, the sun was still there. After
all, we are in Los Angeles! There was not as many
people in the convention room as the day before.
We were welcomed by * drumroll* a string of Bowmans: Stephen, who is part of the production team,
Rob who is director and executive producer and
their father, Chuck , the director who filmed The
Blue Butterfly.
The discussion themes focused on Blue Butterfly
and Swan Song. If Swan Song was postponed so
many times, it was because it was shot in a very special way. Rob explained that the beginning of the
episode might make viewers think about a famous
brand of soda’s commercial, with young people
playing music. The murder is only seen later and
even Beckett does not immediately appear on the
screen, while all the other episodes begin the same
way: someone discovers the victim or is murdered.
The production was afraid they might destabilize
the audience too early in the season: “We can lose
8 million viewers during the first 30 seconds if the
viewer doesn’t recognize the series fast enough.”
Regarding the “I Love you” that many are expecting
from Beckett, Marlowe keeps it warm.
Hop, hop, photos, autographs and we entered
the final session. Armin Shimerman (“Quark” for
those who know him) arrived alone, Luke Reichle
had lost himself. So, he had started the Q&A alone,
when suddenly the back door opened and Luke
appeared, wearing the costume of “Captain Max”
(Final Froniter).
The discussions turned around the amount allocated to the costumes and how much time it took
Luke to create and draw clothes (36 to 48 hours!).
I do not remember the questions asked to Armin,
there were not that many, and he had fun in interviewing Luke about his own work.
And then it was: the end. A wonderful weekend
was over. The convention ended on thanks (organizers, volunteers, donors and members of the
cast for the items they donated to auction) and the
fabulous news: $35 000 were collected and will be
donated to charities.
It was time to drink a last Beckett and the hotel
lobby emptied gradually. And here was the postconvention blues. I came to Los Angeles saying “A
Castle convention, why not?” Now I have only one
thing in my mind: “When is the next convention?”

When fans cross the line
T
he Heat News’ team met
and consulted on the subject to determinate whether we were going to talk about
it in this issue. Unanimously, we
thought it was important.
Stana published on her Facebook account that, for her own
safety, she was going to stop receiving post mail and gifts from
fans. We do not know the reasons that led her to this decision,
but it makes us sad to see that
some fans are going a little too far with the artists.
You do not overreact with your neighbors, you do
not follow them, and you don not harass them nor
other people… So, why do this with the artist? They
have a private life outside the spot lights! It is normal
that they are not always there for their fans.
We have the chance to have some actors who are
really close to us, through social networks, and invest themselves for their fans. Take this chance and
enjoy it every day, but do not ask too much. Remember that this luck can turn its back on you when some
people go too far.
Friends, fans, think about that!
This is unfortunately very frequent and in a few
cases, some people go definitely too far. They forget that the artists, singers or actors, are, first of all,
human beings who deserve to be respected. Do not
forget that they are like us, and one of them could be
your neighbor.

Nathan Fillion at the Firefall Fest
I
t is not the cover of the last Geek Magazine that
will contradict us. Nathan is known to be a big
fan of video games, he is a gamer. So it is not surprising that the actor was invited by Red 5 studio to
participate in “Firefall Fest” in the end of October.
This event was to mark the forthcoming release of
the game Firefall FPS, a multi-player game that is
scheduled to be released very soon. The beta version
is already available for some players.
The event, broadcast in streaming, has allowed the
fans of the actor (and also video games fans) to follow a few games via the website TwitchTV.
Accompanied by actress and presenter Alison
Haislip, also a big fan of video games, Nathan has
spent about an hour
and a half on the
set of the show, to
familiarize himself
with the universe of
Firefall.
In
parallel,
a
contest for the best
gamer pseudonym,
hosted by the actor
on Twitter, also allowed a lucky fan to
win a beautiful laptop!

Nathan Fillion at New York Comic-Con
t is no secret that Nathan Fillion is a big
fan of Comic Cons
and others science fiction
fan gatherings. Especially
when it means he is going
to be reunited with his old
partners of Firefly, to make
another tribute to the show
cancelled too early by FOX.
For the New York Comic
Con, in mid-October, Nathan made a little surprise
to his fans and his partners by transforming an ordinary phone call between Los Angeles and New York
in instant teleportation.
Indeed, without saying a word to anybody, he took
the plane to surprise everyone, making a roundtrip
during the week end even though he was shooting
Castle at the same time. He insisted on attending
this meeting, who paid a ten-year tribute to the interruption of the show.
So while Jewel Straite and Sean Mahey thought
they would talk to him over the phone, the actor surprised everybody by entering the room at the same
time. His surprise had quite an effect. Jewel even
threw herself into the arms of her friend.
Then, the actor took his place as a guest, and participated to the entirely conference. A nice surprise
to the east cote fans who perhaps did not have the
opportunity to travel to San Diego last July!

USC : an evening with ABC’s Castle
N
ovember 4, at the USC (University of Southern California) took place the event An
Evening With ABC’s Castle
This event was opened to the students of the university as well as the fans of the show who had booked a seat. The evening began with the diffusion of
episode 5x05 (Probable Cause), followed by episode
5x06 (The Final Frontier). The latter was an exclusive episode since its airing was scheduled for the
next day on the American and Canadian channels.
After that, executive producer Andrew Marlowe
and actress Stana Katic went on the stage to answer
the questions asked by the moderators for approximately 20 minutes. They discussed, amongst others,
episode 5x08 (After Hour) and the “Moonlight”
curse. Andrew Marlowe also explained how to build
a season: before they write the first episode, the
already know where how the characters will evolve
and what is going to happen during the season, etc…
He gave for example season 4. Before they wrote the
first episode, they were already determined that it
would be a season full of secrets.
Stana, for her part, explained how she saw her role
as a female detective. She focused on the fact that
Beckett has a man job but still keeps a feminine
appearance. After that, the persons in the audience
were given the opportunity to ask questions to both
of the guests. These questions were varied. Some asked for advice, few others told they had noticed some
funny facts in season 5 while others asked questions
about the cast and the crew.
The evening ended on a positive note since the fans
were lucky enough to leave with autographs.

role and her career
Tell us about your career. Is acting your
vocation? What was your career path?
I believe that I came out of the womb as an
actor. My mother reminds me that I was quite
imaginative and passionate about people and
situations. I remember seeing my first stage
play, “Mary Poppins”. After that, I was hooked.
I began performing scenes from Cinderella
while in kindergarten. I would tour from
classroom to classroom. My parents finally
enrolled me into acting camp at the tender age
of 8. I was the one that people expected to read
a passage or recite poetry for church. It was an
incredible honor to be paid for learning lines
and pretending to be someone else. I continued
my training by joining the Neighborhood
circus as a mime and short-lived career as a
fire eater. From there, I started my very own
acting company and entertained youngsters
in juvenile detention centers throughout
Baltimore, MD. The on to Juilliard and the rest
is history
How did you get Victoria Gates’ part? What
sides of this character do you prefer?
I auditioned for the role and thought it was mine
from the beginning. However, when my agents told
me that the process was not going to go any further,
I told them that I didn’t agree. For some reason, I
was convinced that the part was mine. One month
later, my agent informed me that the role was more
than likely going to be offered to another actress.
Then, God stepped in. I got a call out of the blue and
was informed that Gates was mine. I was extremely
grateful, but not surprised. I was just waiting for
the powers to be to know what I already knew.

Were you afraid to join a tightly-welded crew
to replace a character loved by all? How were you
welcomed by the crew?
Not at all. I don’t see myself as replacing Ruben.
After all, Ruben was in a class by himself. He was
exceptional as Montgomery. I simple approached
the part as an addition (something different). The
fans were not as opened as I would have liked,
but after playing a villainous on ‘24’, I was used
to people confusing actress with character. My
quest was to get fans to know PJJ and what value

she could add to ‘Castle’. Thank God for Twitter. It
certainly helped that both cast and crew where a
delight to be around and literally opened their arms
to greet me. They made me extremely comfortable
to do my job.
Tell us about the atmosphere on the Castle’s set.
Do you have any filming anecdotes?
The set is one of peace, joy, laughs, practical,
jokes, hard work, sharing ideas and more. It trickles
down from Andrew & Rob, to Nathan & Stana and
continues to the rest of us. It is always pleasant.
Gates remains a mysterious character. Have you
ever thought about her background? How do you
imagine her life outside the precinct?
I think about her background a lot. But that
would be a different show
Will we learn more about Gates’ past this season?
I think each episode so far has been a window
into what Gates is about. I am personally looking
forward to more.
Do you think Gates’ unfriendliness towards Castle
is real, or is it just a front? What are her feelings
towards the rest of the team according to you?
I don’t think Gates is unfriendly. She’s just not
chummy chummy. I’m sure she appreciates what
he has to offer in helping to solve the murders at
the precinct. Gates is like a proud mother hen. Her
coop is full of talented and courageous detectives.
Beckett, I believe is her prodigy. Don’t think for a
second that Gates is not bragging about her team
(outside of work that is)!
Your appearance at the PaleyFest in March gave
the fans the opportunity to find out more about you:
you are very different from your character! Do you
think your sense of humor and your kindness have
had an impact on Gates’ popularity, who is much
more popular now than she was when she started
out?
Absolutely! But, I would like to believe it has
something to do with being a good addition to the
show.
Are you yourself a fan of the show? Have you
ever thought about how you -would like to see the
various characters and couples evolve?
I am definitely a fan. However, I wasn’t an avid
watcher prior to landing the job. My dear friends
had been trying to get my husband and I interested
in joining their weekly ‘Castle’ get-togethers to no
avail. Now, they join us and we sometimes discuss
‘what if’ for various characters on the show.
What do you think of the interaction between the
crew and the show’s fans through social networks,
notably Twitter? Have you ever experienced
anything like it? Were you on Twitter before you
started acting for Castle, or were you influenced by
Nathan Fillion?
It truly is a testament as to how much the cast
and crew enjoy every entity of ‘Castle’. If you are
thinking about work after putting in long hours,
or tweeting while at work because something so
awesome is happening on set, you must be involved
in greatness.

How to talk about the show without talking about
the pilot? This episode establishes the tone and atmosphere of the series to follow, outlines the characters, their story and their nature. Different decisions in this episode’s scenario could have led to an
entirely different universe than the one we know
today.
The story might seem common. A famous and
charismatic writer, a beautiful detective with a dark
past, a series of murders inspired by the fictional
crimes of aforesaid writer. And yet, I think you will
agree to say that neither the pilot nor the show is
common.
Everything seems to oppose the two protagonists,
despite their admiration for the person of Castle,
who acts as a self-centered seducer. She says she
does not believe in a prince charming, he is a
smooth talker and a real Casanova; she is a control
freak, and he cannot be controlled; she is hung-up,
he does not seem to have many morals; she wants
justice, he is proud to have a copycat and is only
interested in the story. And yet, it is his desire to
uncover the story that will allow the beautiful detective to hand out justice.
The investigation is to say the least original. The
murders seems to have been committed by a deranged person, who appears to be the perfect culprit.
As far as the detectives are concerned, it is the end
of the story. But it was without taking into account
the writer’s determination, who is not satisfied
with the story the detectives gave him. He steals
the file in order to carry on his own investigation,
charming Kate so she will not find out what he is
trying to do (but she will, and soon). However, he
manages to instill doubt in Kate’s mind. She follows
up the investigation, not entirely convinced by the
culpability of their culprit. She meets again the writer during her investigation, and asks him to join
her. This is how they are lead on the trail on the
brother of one of the victim, and how Castle finally
finds out the story. The story is twisted, the murderer is even more so. Not only has he killed his sister
to inherit the money she should have received from
their father when he would die of his cancer, but
he mostly killed her so as to make his father suffer
before he dies, the latter having always preferred
his daughter than his son. All is well that ends well:
the murderer is stopped, victims can rest in peace.
As they are about to go separate ways, Castle invites Beckett to go out with him, but she refuses. He
watches her walking away with a wide smile. He is
later seen writing on his computer, his inspiration
having come back to him. Kate learns soon after
that the writer has chosen her as his muse, and that
he will follow her in her investigations as long as
he will decide. Once may wonder why Kate, who is
one of his biggest fans, has refused his invitation to
have dinner with him. I think we should consider
ourselves happy, as without this refusal, we would
have never had the occasion to see the characters
shape themselves and grow the way they have, to
see their relationship spring, bloom and become
every day that passes even more beautiful and even
stronger. Don’t you think the show as we know it,
and as we have known it, has arises from the ashes
of this refusal?

Episode 5x04
Castle and Beckett are
enjoying their first weekend
as a couple in the Hamptons.
Unfortunately, their professional life decides to recall
them.

Two years. Two years since the whole fandom has
been expecting this moment. This moment made of
beauty, of magic and of complete harmony between
Castle and Beckett. Two years since we have tried
to accept the crazy misunderstanding that made
them, as well as us, miss an entire weekend in
Castle’s house in the Hamptons.
We finally had what we wanted! Marlowe promised he will do it, and he did. The now famous
saying “In Marlowe we trust” has never been truer
than for the 5x04. This episode is, in my opinion, a
true delight: funny, and lots of Caskett moments. Of
course, it is not exception to the murder tradition: it
is how a man dies in Castle’s swimming pool while
he and Kate were about to take a midnight swim,
with Kate in her birthday suit. To be honest, I did
not really care about the investigation, as I was too
focused on the many Caskett’s moments. And there
were plenty of them. Notably when Castle reassures
Kate by taking her hand right after giving her a tour
of the house, and also the swimming pool moment
(before the dying guy appeared, obviously), and
when Kate shows herself more feminine and in love
than ever as she is wearing a black nightie with a
plunging neckline, offering us a wonderful ending.
As usual, the episode was full of humor. How not
to mention Kate trying to get up in order to leave a
cell, forgetting she is cuffed to the bench? Or when
Castle wakes up a drug addict who was quietly sleeping in his cell?
As usual, the script writers have managed to make
us laugh, and love the show even more, if it is even
possible.
One of the important elements of the episode is
also Ryan finding out about their relationship. I
have to admit I was disappointed. Marlowe told
us their relationship would remain secret for most
of the season, and yet Ryan finds out the truth by
chance in the early fifth season. The suspense could
have lasted a little longer. However, I have heard
one cannot have it all, so I will let go of it.
To sum up, I will say that, in my opinion, this episode deserves at least 8.5/10. 9.5 for the humor and
the Caskett, minus 1 for the early discovery of our
couple’s secret, and all the interrupted kisses.
On the whole, it was a very good episode that, given its quality, suggests this season will be extraordinary. No doubt that those who said this season
was to be the best were right! As far as I am concerned, the more the weeks goes by, the more impatient I am to see what the wonderful Castle crew
reserves us.

One knows that when Andrew Marlowe writes
an episode, something strong and intense can be
expected. The show’s executive producer has for
example written the pilot, Rise, and Always. Such
great episodes have left a mark on the fans through
the quality of their script, and their importance in
the Castle-ian mythology. Main characteristics of
Marlow’s writing are quality, subtlety, and profoundness. Probable Cause does not depart from
the rule. The episode, which promotion was essentially based on the idea that the writer might be
cheating on his muse, takes us by surprise as one
of the most famous villain of the series returns: the
famous serial killer, 3xK.
By the way, here is a small digression: it seems
that this year, ABC and CTV have finally learnt how
to deal with the show’s promotion, and have stopped unveiling everything through the sneak peeks
and the trailers. As a result, it is much easier to
reconcile the fact of being too curious with the fact
of loving surprises. And this is much appreciated
when one is a restless fan (such as the author of
this critic).
This episode is precisely the embodiment of the
interest of this kind of judicious communication
strategy. The return of 3xK is unexpected because
no information suggesting it would happen had
leaked out. Some fans had of course put forward
this hypothesis when it was made public that Castle
was being set up. But we were so used to promotions revealing too much about the episodes that
it seemed certain that 3xK’s return would not be a
secret.

So obviously, we were dumbfounded when he
entered the precinct in a masterful nocturnal scene.
Some fans’ hearts might have missed a beating.
But before we go back to 3xK, let’s talk about the
episode as a whole. One of its greatest qualities is
that it gives every single protagonist and minor character a chance to shine. Sure, one can regret Alexis’
dull reaction during her talk with Beckett and Martha, but besides this, every character had their
moment. Esposito, who had recently been showed
as an uncompromising person, gets his credibility
back. He shows it by his very calm reaction when he
learns the truth from Ryan (the Irishman’s omission is not the most important matter going on), his
flawless loyalty toward Castle, the “I love him too”,
and even when he stops Kate from wanting to help
Castle escape. It seems like he has learnt his lesson:
he does not rush headlong anymore.
Gates embodies the episode’s leitmotiv: “Stand by
your man”, as was tweeted by Penny Johnson Jerald during Probable Cause’s shooting. She remains
herself – an upright woman- but she is willing to
accept Castle’s innocence, and to try and prove it.
She leaves her emotions asides, and does her best to
conduct the investigation as objectively as possible.
One can also feel that, step by step, Kate becomes
attached to her; the irritation from the beginning
slowly turns into respect, and the relationship that
arises between the 2 women is enthralling. It is a
real success regarding Gates’ integration within the
team.

A closer look
like in the twentieth episode of the fourth season, is
Kate’s emotions catalyst. She is the one Kate turns
to when things are too heavy for her to bear on her
own. Their complicity has a great presence. Tamala
said, in a recent interview, that this kind of scenes
rings true as she and Stana are truly friends as they
confide in one another in the “real life”.
And then, there are Castle and Beckett. Castle is
overwhelmed by everything that is happening, but
almost never gives in to panic. As proofs pile up,
the writer sinks into a true nightmare, but he keeps
his chin up: he plans his own evasion. Once again,
we are shown how well the writer can handle things
thanks to his many “contacts”. It has become some
sort of an amusing running gag in the first seasons,
and it has been missing lately.
His confrontation with 3xK was chilling: it was
one of the most intense scenes of the show. The
heaviness of the atmosphere is not dissimilar to
the one of the most intense moments of Castle: the
famous scene of the hangar in Knockout.
And finally, there is Beckett who never stops believing in her partner, for the fans’ delight. Spoilers
were built in a way that suggested she would doubt
his fidelity, because it was one of the things she had
feared ever since the beginning. But even when everything seems to point out the writer is cheating on
her, she still wants to believe it is a lie. And this is
why she is ready to believe him when he says 3xK
is behind it all. Because everything finally makes
sense. For the first time, she is willing to prefer his
extravagant story over the obvious proofs: it is a
huge step forward on her part.
There is a scene in the episode that is very interesting. The detective has sat on the writer’s chair to
think, the famous chair on which he has developed
so many crazy hypotheses. It might not be intentio-

nal, but the parallel is interesting.
There were many other parallels with other episodes, which is appreciated. Between the hint to the
pilot with the library scene, the ones to 3x05 with
the evasion plan, and the one to 4x10 (“They did it
without the tiger”), one can see the embodiment of
what has made the strength of this show: its continuity. The characters never evolve in a random
way; there is never the feeling that they are entire
different persons from one week to the next. Many
shows fail on this.
The whole plot about 3xK’s return was brightly
handled. Its unexpected return as well as the whole
stage play to set up the writer was brilliant. It shows
how perverse, intelligent and calculating he is. He
is a real bad guy, the writer’s nemesis. 3xK is probably the strongest and most credible villain of the
series. And obviously, he is not dead. We will see
him again one day or another. He brings about
very interesting questions regarding the writer’s
attraction for the morbid. The subject has only
been tackled once so far, and most fans are dying to
know more about it.
In short, Probable Cause truly was an intense episode, and was also moving regarding the Caskett’s
evolution. And what may give it its very strength
is that, in the end, the fans were not expecting so
much from it.
The series is never better than in the humility
not to promise anything and to take us by surprise.
“When nothing is expected, everything is possible”
would say adventurer Antoine de Maximy. It is
most certainly a saying ABC and CTV could think
on!

face each other on this month’s theme. The previous combatants are not operational anymore.
Finally, we will admit that they eat now exclusively via a straw ...

SECOND SESSION IS NOW OPEN!
After
season four’s finale, a debate raged at Heat News editorial
offices over detective Javier Esposito’s attitude towards
his colleague and friend, Kevin Ryan.
Here is a brief reminder of the facts: having put aside
all discernment and caution, Beckett throws herself in
a battle to try and resolve once and for all the mystery
of her mother’s murder. Despite the attempts of Castle
and Ryan to dissuade her to do so, she is going to
take inconsiderate risks with the unfailing support of
Esposito. She finds herself in a very critical position
after a memorable fight that would have impress even
Jason Bourne, and only stays alive thanks to Ryan’s in
extremis intervention, along with Gates.
Despite the fact Beckett would have probably died if her
colleagues from the 12th had not intervened, Esposito
cannot forget Ryan for what he considers to be a betrayal.
The two bros haven fallen out.
Night has already crept in Heat News offices, but the
editorial staff is still buzzing. Only the crackle of the
keyboards and the sweet voice of the chief editor, who
yells every five minutes that it will never be finished by
the deadlines, can be heard. It is a calm and tranquil
atmosphere, perfect for concentration.
Sitting at her desk, translating her fifteenth article of the
evening, the one whose name cannot be pronounced nor

without any mistake, I named Tír na nÓg, is moved by
what is happening to Ryan, and does not understand
Esposito’s behavior.
On the other side of the office, armed with a cup of coffee
and with all the bad faith she is capable of, stands Redjane.
Ineradicable Browncoat, she supports Esposito’s reaction,
persuaded it is entirely justified considering what Ryan
has done.
Feeling the upcoming storm, the wise Rualez often looks
up from her computer screen, and evaluates the distance
between she and the extinguisher, in case the temperature
would rise up a little bit too much.
Tír: Frankly, we’re lucky Ryan intervened, otherwise Kate
would be dead and there wouldn’t be a fifth season! I don’t
understand how Esposito can resent him so much.
Red: Wow, wait! Esposito and Ryan are Beckett’s
partners, it means something! They have to stick together
and have each other’s back, no matter what! Ryan forgot
that since he went to Gates and told her everything.
Tír: Sure, but he called Castle first. The latter was just too
busy sulking. What else could Ryan do? He was the only
one to realize how big a mistake Kate was about to do.
Between being loyal, if one can call it this way, and save a

life, he made the good choice, right? Esposito thinks it’s a
betrayal, but truth is, what he did was heroic.
Red: For Esposito, being heroic means risking everything
for Beckett. He decided to follow her, even if it could cost
him his life. He would have probably wanted Ryan not
to ask himself so many questions and to come with them
instead. Had he been there, then maybe Esposito wouldn’t
have been knocked out, and they would have caught the
guy.
Rualez, getting ready to diffuse the bomb that is about to
go off : True, but don’t you think they both acted out of
loyalty? They just have a different opinion on what loyalty
is. Maybe Esposito has a more military point of view, while
Ryan has a more definite opinion on right and wrong, he is
more of a cop when it comes to respecting the rules. And
keep in mind that Esposito is closer to Beckett than Ryan
is. They have been through hard times together. From this
point of view, Ryan is more neutral, he can keep a cool
head, and he takes pondered decisions.
Tír: Still, Esposito’s grudge cannot be justified. He screwed
up, he failed to protect Beckett. He is mad because he is
upset about this.
Red: Let’s say it is his Latino’s side. The only way for
him to admit he was wrong would be for his ego to take
some vacations. Still, he has really taken Ryan’s actions as
a betrayal, and it will probably have consequences in the
future.
Tír: Things will change for Ryan as well. He will grow tired
to be treated that way. You can see it, he does not confide
in Esposito as easily. Just like when he found out about
Castle and Beckett…
It’s true, there will probably be repercussions
on their “bromance”. Time will tell. Let’s go back to work,
shall we?
Persuaded she will be awarded with the next Peace Nobel
Prize, Rualez leans on her chair with a satisfied look on her
face. It was without counting her colleagues’ obstinacy.

Restricted area
As the end of the year is coming, Castle and Beckett
are about to spend their first Christmas together. It will
be the first Christmas episode in the history of the show,
and will be entitled Secret Santa. Despite Christmas
and the magic that surrounds this celebration, there will
not be roses all the way, and not everything will turn the
way the couple had expected. Indeed, a conspiracy will
attempt to maintain the couple away from Christmas.
The question is: what conspiracy? Also, they will not as
a murder will literally fall over them and they will have
to investigate. The two protagonists, who have different
traditions, will quarrel about this and will have to make
compromise to resolve this small “crisis”.
In the same episode, Ryan and his wife will experience
a crisis of their own, but the causes and consequences are
still unknown.
Love
In episode 5, Esposito, eternal lady-killer, will once
again be a heartbreaker. During an investigation, the
body guard of the victim will find an interest in the detective, for who the interest will remain only professional.
We cannot speak of love, but it deserves to be emphasized.
For the rest of the season, creator of the show Andrew
Marlowe announced some complications in the couple’s
relationship. We have yet to know what he reserves for
our two heroes.
Frienship & Castle family
During the Christmas episode, we will see how the
members of the 12th celebrate it. So we will find out
more about how Esposito, Lanie, Ryan, Beckett and
Castle spend Christmas, Alexis will spend holidays at
the loft with her father, her grandmother and Beckett.
Castle will year 2013 off to a great start as he will see
his home getting invaded; Meredith will be turn up to
take her daughter on a trip to Europe. Unfortunately,
Alexis will get sick and will have to rest. Being a good
mother, Meredith will stays by her daughter’s until she
feels better. In the meantime, Castle will also accommodate Beckett since her apartment will be fumigated,
and she will be left without a home for a few days. Watching Castle trying to manage three women at the same
time promises to be fun.
During an investigation on the murder of a DJ, Esposito will be particularly interested in one of the suspects. Indeed, she will be a 14 year-old orphan, with
a criminal record already well-filled for her age. His

desire to help her comes from the fact that between the
4 members of the team, he is the one whose childhood
was the most difficult. Will we know more about his
past during this episode (5x12)?
No additional information concerning a possible relationship between Alexis and one of her teachers has
been. However, during the Castle Convention, a spoiler about Alexis and Castle has emerged: what would
Castle do if someone were to attack his daughter? They
are considering the matter, and it promises a good episode in perspective. So keep an eye open for any more
spoilers on the matter.

The murderer has not heard of the Christmas break; the
members of the 12th will not have any rest. So during the
Secret Santa episode (5x09), a bearded man dressed like
Santa Claus will fall from the sky, not with thousands of
toys, but with a murder to solve. Yes, our Santa Claus’ name
is Kris Kringle, and he will be found dead in Central Park.
So, we can say that Santa will give a poisoned gift to team
of the 12th which will investigate the murder. In addition
to this, Santa Claus turns out to be a bad boy instead of a
nice citizen. As between all this, the relationship between
Castle and Beckett (not so secret at all) will be official soon;
said Andrew Marlowe. Penny Johnson Jerald declared that
Gates already know about their relationship. Will she let
herself be carried away by the joyful atmosphere of holidays and allow the writer to remain a part of the team? It
is yet unknown how she has found out, and how the couple
will know she has..
Year 2013 will be a great start for the team: first episode to air will be Significant Others (5x10). The quartet
will end up facing the death of Michelle, a divorce lawyer,
which is quite funny since Castle has divorced twice, and
since his ex-wife will be staying at his loft at the same time.
Many guest have already been announced: Nancy Lee
Grahn (General Hospital) will play a rich women engaged
in a hilarious war of bad faith with her ex-husband, played
by Brendan Ford (Weeds). Melrose Place’s actor Jack Wagner will play Billy Piper, a famous golfer whose career is
in free fall after a dirty divorce case; his character will have
some similarities with Tiger Wood (A famous golfer).
In Death Gone Crazy (5x11), the detectives of the 12th
will investigate the murder of Beau Randolph. This name
seems perhaps familiar? Well, this is normal since we have
already met him. Remember, this was in episode 3 of season 4 (Head Case). Beau Randolph is the producer of the
show “College Girls Gone Crazy”. We will also meet his
bodyguard, interpreted by Kelly Hu. She will be interested
in Esposito when he comes to interrogate her…
Not much spoilers have been released about the twelfth
episode of the season. At the moment we close this Heat
News’ issue, we can say that the victim is going to be a DJ
and that the episode will be entitled Under the Influence
(5x12).

struck me. You draw a lot of portraits, and the precision
with which you draw the faces and expression is
impressive. How long have you been drawing? Did you
take art classes?
Thanks so much for your kind words.
I have been drawing since early age. I remember when I
was 3 or 4 years old I started to draw .My first drawing was
for my mom and I still remember that moment. On the
other hand, my dad he was my inspiration and he taught
me how to draw cars and it was very simple drawing. Since
that day I fall in love with drawing and I taught myself how
to draw. Frankly it was my favorite hobby until I grow up
and the art is everything in my life.

I love art ( it is a long story) but likely I got the chance to
study my favorite course Graphic design.
How do you proceed to draw? Do you draw a sketch that
you finish on your computer? What are the various steps
in the creation of your works?
Frankly it depends on the ideas that I have. Sometimes
I draw in sketches or in my notebook as a rough sketch to
see how the idea looks like. Recently, I go directly to use
computer and saves more time.
I like to practice to develop my skill independly besides
my study and to find new techniques to help me to introduce a good work with different new look.
Here are the things I usually do:
First of all, I have to get a plan or story line because it
is the main key to begin my work.
The most two significant parts are, the colors that I
use and shadows too. They are the main factors to make
my creation look real whether in digital painting or photo

manipulation. For a good example you can visit my gallery on DeviantArt and you will find some of my works
before and after.
I like to change my style from time to time to expand
new knowledge.
Last but not least, if I have any ideas I want to create,
I write it in my notebook because I don’t want to forget
them.
Last thing, for those who are really interested in art
this is an advice from me to you.
Try to present yourself or reflect your character in
your creation .Don’t worry if your skill is not that good,
but by the time and practicing, I assure you that your skill
will get better and better but it needs your patience.
Let’s take your creation of Stana with an NYPD car in the
background as an example. How long does it usually take
you to finish a creation?
I would like to say, generally my work takes 1-3 days
or 1 week to finish & it depends on the idea and the time.
Do you have any favorite works, whether they are from a
renown or an unknown artist?
Yes I have. I always update myself about other artists’
activities.There are many artists always inspiring me especially traditional artists such as Robert Hagan and
he is my inspiration and I always like to see his latest
artworks.
Your work reminds of that of Benjamin, whose real name
is ZHANG Bing (a Chinese manga author), in the style
and colors you’re using. Do you know him? If so, has he
inspired you?

This question is the summary of
“To Live”, a story that should have
only been a one-shot, but turned
out to be much longer.
What I like about fanfictions is
that they transport us beyond the
show, beyond its plot and scenarios, with much more freedom
than what one can see on the
screen.
There is no need to wonder
about the long-term repercussions
of one of the protagonist’s death,
nor about the impact would it have
on the other characters.
“To Live” is a tragedy. It is Tir
na nOg 1994’s first story; and yet,
for a first one, her writing surprise
by the finesse of the chosen words
and their impact. The theme particularly moved me.
volves around Castle and Beckett,
and the question contained in the
summary. Even though one can
easily guess the outcome, reading
her story feels like being stabbed
in the heart.
The author achieves her own
ends, and drives us to wonder if,
indeed, “living is not the greatest
sacrifice of all”.

ting Castle fan must certainly remember what
divided an entire fandom ? I am referring, of course, to the second season’s finale; on one side were the Castle Fans, and on
the other side were the Beckett Fans. This is why I chose a video
that stuck with the end of the second season.
This video, entitled «Castle : Kate Beckett - Cry», was published on June 28, 2010 by xeclipseproductionsx. I decided to
present this video to you for several reasons, the main reason
being that it was one of the first fan videos I have seen on the
show. It was also a case of love at first sight, since it contains
everything I like.
First of all, the editing is perfect: not only do the effects are
synchronized with the music, but there is also a story behind it.
We can see Beckett is hurt, and yet Castle is not being thrown
stones at. The video mostly focus on Kate and how she is hurt.
One can feel her sorrow without blaming Castle: here lies the
editing’s art. It would have been easy to create a video blaming
the writer, but the editor decided otherwise.
The music, entitled “Cry” and sung by Rihanna, is gut-wrenching. I do not think it can be more explicit,
regarding the video’s theme. Xeclipseproductionsx has chosen to put under the spotlight the detective’s
pain.
You see, no matter how much I love Castle, I can still be interested in videos focusing on Beckett.
This video has remained in my top 3 ever since. I invite you to watch it, as well as the other videos, including a Castle’s credits based on the one of Criminal Minds.

X-files is invited in Castle
I
f there is one episode of the show that has a long
and complicated title, it is the ninth episode
of the third season: Close Encounter of the
Murderous Kind. In France, we did not complicate
things, and the episode in simply entitled “La vérité
est ailleurs”, meaning “The truth is out there”.
X-Files fans cannot miss the allusion to the major
science-fiction show, since this phrase appears in
the credits.
I am sure that, as fans, you have noticed many of
the hints to this famous show of the nineties. Here
are only a few

shows proudly to his friends as a proof to the existence of other beings in the universe.
Castle’s reply to Beckett : «I’m not asking you to
dye your hair red and call me Mulder».
The victim worked for SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence).

The ex-boyfriend of the victim is named Ted Carter, Carter being the name of the creator of X-Files.
No matter how nice these allusions are, they were
not the hardest to find. If you look closely, you will
see, in some scenes of the episode, some “X” appear
in the background.
No, I am not crazy. Whether it is a play of light, or a
setting in the background that displays an X-shaped
structure, there are several “X” in the episode. Do not
tell me you have seen the “EXIT” signs. I voluntarily
did not pay attention to them, as it felt like all the
EXIT signs of New-York had been gathered in this
episode. They are too easy to find.

«Winter Is Coming»
If while taking the bus, you meet a tousled hair individual, holding an enormous book and whispering to
anyone who will listen “Winter is coming”, it is a safe
bet that he is in the middle of the literary (and televisual) saga that has been driving the book lovers (and
series lovers) crazy for the past two years: “Games
of Thrones”.
Games of Thrones: Not only is it Nathan Fillion’s
new favorite play on words (write to him “Game of…”
on Twitter, and there is a probability he will answer
you “Thrones”), but it is also and mostly the name of
a medieval fantasy literary saga. The first book was
published by George R.R Martin in 1996, and its
success was built over the years by word of mouth.
Its success has even more increased ever since HBO
has acquired the rights in 2007 and decided to make
a TV show out of it.
Every season (approximately 10 episodes) from the
show produced by David Benioff and D.B Weiss
adapts on the screen one book from the saga, and
tries to transcribe the richness of the universe developed by Martin.
Broadcasted since April 17, 2011, in the USA, the
show has known success all over the world, which has

brought even more readers to the already crowded
circle of readers. Translated in 25 languages, with
more than 15 million books sold in the world, its success is growing.
It is impossible to sum up Game of Thrones’ plot
in a few lines. Its universe is far too complex and rich.
However, I will tell you this: the story takes place in
an imaginary universe in which the seasons does not
follow a “normal” cycle, and can last for years, and
even decades.
The plot unfolds in the Seven Kingdoms realm,
on the Westeros continent. The country is ruled by
several royal families: the Baratheons, the Lannisters, the Starks, the Targaryens, the Arryns, the
Greyjoys, the Martells, the Tullys, and the Tyrells.
Each household has its lands, its rules, its escutcheons and its mottos, and every one aspires to
power through the famous “Iron Throne”. The saga
describes the plots, the rivalries and the power
struggles that happen in the Kingdom in order to
take over the throne, as the return of the Winter
is coming. In parallel, there is also the story of the
Night’s Watch, an order that has to watch over the
North border of the kingdom. It is protected by a gigantic wall of ice, beyond which live savage people

and frightening creatures.
To adapt such a rich sage into such a good show is
quite an achievement. Critics were charmed by the
adaptation, and the public gave it a warm welcoming.
And even though some fans were not really convinced
(there is always a couple of them), most of them agree
to give positive critics on the show. On the side of the
newbies, who had never heard of the books before it
was adapted, an interest for the literary version of
the saga can be noted, as the selling of the books has
considerably increased since April 2011.
The actor even admitted that he hoped this hint
could eventually allow him to get a role on the show.
At Heat News, we would not be against the idea. And
you, dear readers, what do you think?
Anyway, we will keep an eye open for potential
other references to the famous saga in our favorite
show, and we invite you to do the same, and to tell us
any hint you might have seen.
In the meantime, cloak yourselves dear friends,
there is a rumor going around: winter is coming!
Among famous fans of the saga, we can name Nathan Fillion, as well as Molly Quinn (the actor recently admitted that it was the young woman who made
him discover the saga).
His love for the fantasy saga was hinted in a recent
Castle’s episode. Indeed, in episode 4x02 entitled
“Heroes & Villains”, which drove Castle and Beckett
to go after a super-hero killing people with a sword,
the writer could not help himself but to say “A sword?

Coffee talk
“I’m supposed to look normal.”
Finally! They are together. We find our heroes were we
had left them several months ago. After a night of love
come the time of THE talk: did it happen only because
the detective was having a hard time, or does she really
want the writer? This last proposition is the good one:
finally, they are a couple.
But
while
they
are
talking,
Martha
interrupts
them
by
coming home earlier
than expected. As a true
gentleman, Castle sends
Beckett to hide in his
closet. But when he goes
to her place to apologize,
it is she who hides him
in her closet when Ryan
come knocking at her
door. They do not want
their relationship to be
known.
As Beckett is still
suspended, they have plenty of time to get to know each
other better. The time to go back to work eventually
arrives, and the NYPD having strict regulations about
relationships, they decide to hide it to their friends and
colleagues. Castle makes the first mistake when he forgets
to bring coffee to his muse, which had never happened
before. Esposito noticed it. In order to cover their tracks,
Castle agrees to go on a date with a TV presenter, whose
intentions are not the purest.
So when Kate finds her rival kissing Castle, she makes
things clear: they are single, but they do not date. Her
secret is not that well-guarded as Martha knows the
nature of their relationship ever since the beginning, and
makes her son tell his daughter. But their friends at the
12th still do not know what is going on, and temptations
are sometimes hard to resist. What should they do
when they want to kiss each other? Shake their hand,
obviously!
Their relationship evolves as Kate confides in Rick
about her past, notably
about her passion for
Nebula-9, and as Castle
is comfortable enough
to answer his muse’s
phone. He even invites
her in his house in the
Hamptons. But their
weekend is disturbed by
a murder they cannot
stop themselves from
resolving.
Another
person finds out about
their
relationship:
Ryan, who keeps it a
secret, even though
Esposito and he were
investigating
on
Beckett’s mysterious boyfriend.
When Castle is accused of murder and everything
seems to prove he has cheat on Kate, the latter does not
lose her faith in him. It does her well, since the whole
thing was a set-up. The strength on their relationship
is truly shown in moments like this. But during this
investigation, two other persons find out about them:
Esposito and Lanie. Except Gates, everyone now knows
about their relationship. What will happen when their
captain finds out? Will Castle be able to say in the team?
“I admire your loyalty. I hope you feel that for me someday.”
Victoria “Iron” Gates, such is the nickname of the 12th
district’s Captain. A nickname that, at first sight, might
seem more than justified.
Gates does not look for the friendship of her detectives,
whom she leads with an iron hand. And yet, under her
cold and hard appearance is hidden a noble and humane
person. In Secret’s safe with me, we found out that Gates
has a passion for her dolls’ collection, which is sometimes
creepy on the edges.
In Probable Cause, she seems to believe in Castle’s
innocence. And even if she insists on the fact she will
follow the evidence no matter where they lead, she
accepts to follow unlikely leads, when many would have

thought the writer to be guilty. And how to forget the
end of After the storm? Not only does she know about
the secrets her team is keeping from her, but she also
decides not to tarnish Montgomery’s reputation and
agrees to keep it a secret.
She tells Beckett she admires their loyalty to
Montgomery, and hopes they will feel that for her
someday. If one goes beyond the appearances, they will
discover that Gates is a beautiful person, concerned
with the well-being of her people, and who wishes to be,
someday, more to them than an Iron woman.

“Well, it’s what partners do, right?”
After what Esposito sees as a betrayal from Ryan, the
atmosphere was tensed between our two bros. In
After the Storm, Esposito is distant, sometimes even
aggressive, towards the Irishman. He calls his partner
‘Judas’, while aiming his gun at him.
A bit later, the Latino even threatens to break his
partner’s arm if he warns Gates, and Castle has to step in
in order to calm things down. In the following episode,
the two partners are still not reconciled but Kate still
makes them investigate together.
Surprised by this gesture, he tells Ryan he did not
have to do this, to which the latter replies that “it’s what
partners do, right?” Esposito seems to realize he was
unfair to Ryan, and the hatchet is finally buried.
Their mutual trust seems to be back, as well as the
“bromance”, as funny and strong as ever. No one can
doubt anymore the strength of the friendship that unites
them.
Esposito, deeply resentful, keeps verbally attacking
and diminishing Ryan. Only when the Latino finds out
his partner has taken a hit for him does he forgive him.
My little girl is going to college
Martha has once again shown she knew how to make
quite an entrance as she stormed into the loft earlier
than expected, driving his son to hide Kate in his closet.
The well-behaved young woman, who has recently
graduated, partied a little too hard and came home with
quite a hangover. After a summer spent in Europe with
her grand-mother, it is time for Alexis to move in the
university.
especially to do her laundry (for free), and to empty
her father’s fridge. Castle is shocked to meet his lightlydressed daughter at the Supernovacon. Apparently,
he had not heard of the Havacura, a tribe of female
assassins.
But before it, she has to pack her things, and to
distinguish the necessary from the superfluous, which
is not always that easy. While looking at Alexis’ boxes,
Martha reveals to her son that she knows about he and
Beckett ever since the beginning. She suggests he should
talk to Alexis about it. The writer’s daughter takes the
news well, and knows the detective will not replace her
in her father’s heart. Everybody is relieved.
After Alexis’ going, Martha gives a lot of thoughts about
what she is going to do, and decides to sacrifice herself
and keep on living with her son. Is that not generous?
