The Neumann Family Services motto serves as a constant reminder that we all have dreams and as a focal point for our staff in their daily work with the people we serve. We invite you to see how we are working to help our clients achieve their dreams in the pages of this annual report. The past year marked several accomplishments for our organization. While Neumann Family Services has been serving the Chicago area for more than 60 years, we have recently experienced tremendous growth by supporting the State of Illinois’ efforts to transition people with disabilities from institutions to inclusive community-based settings. We are proud to play a significant role in this initiative and, as a response, grew by 20% in FY13. We are committed to expanding supports in the coming years. Tim F. at Neumann’s Summer Games In FY13, Neumann Family Services (NFS) engaged in a strategic planning process that included stakeholders at all levels. Through this interactive process, we have identified the following Mission, Vision and Value statements that will guide our work for the future: MISSION The mission of Neumann Family Services is to integrate persons with disabilities into the community and enrich their quality of life with choice and independence. VISION Summer field trip to Lake Michigan Neumann Family Services will implement best-practices in person-centered approaches in order to empower persons with disabilities as they actualize their dreams, goals, and aspirations in inclusive environments. NFS will serve as a lead statewide advocate for the inclusion of people with disabilities into all aspects of community life. CORE VALUES Person-centered: Personal dreams and life plans are established by the individual and/or their families, friends and champions, and supported by the NFS staff. Inclusive: Services directed toward community integration include persons with and without disabilities and benefit all participants. Empowerment: Members of NFS are supported to be as independent as possible. Empowerment encompasses the principles of self-advocacy. Community-based: Supports are given in natural community settings, and include the development of community-based relationships and friendships. Evidenced–Based Best Practices: Services provided are evidenced-based and supported through research and innovation. We are privileged to lead this organization and are committed to helping our clients achieve their dreams in inclusive settings. We cannot continue to do this important work without the support of our community partners and stakeholders. Our list of supporters, donors, and volunteers is growing every day. We invite you to learn more about us and to consider being a dream maker by giving of yourself, either financially or through your time. Our success is highly dependent on changing one community at a time with one client at a time, and we look forward to the day when all of our clients will be your neighbors. It takes a lot of work, struggling, and striving to accomplish goals. Achieving success takes steady concentration and work. I like attending groups. There are lots of groups like anger management, assertiveness, awareness, and boundaries. These classes help. Neumann is about teaching independence and how to be independent in the work place and the community.” Brandon J.
