Lube system - Fleetguard
Lube system Lubricate - Reduce friction and wear Cooling - Heat transfer media Sealing - Cleaning - Prevents deposits Function - Lube Fills uneven surfaces in engine The oil must maintain a lubricating oil film between load bearing surfaces. In rod bearings this film ranges between 5 and 15 microns in thickness. This film prevents metal to metal contact reducing wear. Lubricate Most of the heat produced by a diesel engine is waste. One job of the oil is to absorb some of that waste heat and transfer it to the air by way of radiation to the atmosphere or transfer to the cooling system through the oil cooler. Cool Even with today’s machining processes, sealing surfaces are not perfect. The oil fills in the gaps in areas such as between piston rings and liners to act as a seal, improving engine performance. Seal The oil is also used to transport additives to all parts of the engine. Detergents keep the engine clean, while dispersants keep small particles from becoming large, wear causing particles. Clean The hydraulic properties of oil are used to operate items like hydraulic valves and exhaust brakes. hydraulics Evolution of Products OBJECTIVE To give understanding as to the role of lubricating crankcase oil filtration from its grass roots concept through to a new patented filter concept extended oil service The presentation is formatted to show how Fleetguard’s dedication to achieving finer filtration has not been disregarded at the expense of achieving greater service intervals and filter life. Combustion By-Products Consist Of… By-products of combustion form at least 80% of the oil contaminate Effects Of Sludge Oil fails because the dispersant package is no longer capable of keeping the soot in suspension. • As soot builds up it agglomerates and falls out of suspension. • Then forms sludge and interferes with the desired functioning of the oil. • It also becomes somewhat abrasive in the system. • Plugs filters. • Removing sludge forming materials from the system allows oil to perform effectively for longer periods. Stacked Disc Bypass Media Stacked Disc removes 3 to 5 times as much material as the full flow element. Compressed fibres, NO RESIN BINDERS Stacked Disc bypass filter media not only removes fine damage causing particulate, it provides the attraction medium (cellulose) for sludge holding. Combination Filtration Best Of Both In One Full Flow Bypass “COMBO” Full Flow & Bypass In One Unit LF3000 10% of the full flow oil passes through the stacked disk bypass element and travels directly back to the sump.
