Dear Friends,
2015 was an enriching and rewarding year for the Boothbay Region YMCA. Throughout the year we
engaged in expanded partnerships that strengthened programs and provided vital resources for our
community.
As part of our Strategic Road Map we have:

Developed an Asset Plan so that we can effectively meet capital needs and invest in our facilities and
maintain the Y’s physical assets. This year’s budget makes a considerable investment to improve
safety, enhance programming, and reinvest in our assets.

Begun to build a foundation of a healthy mix of earned revenue, grants and charitable dollars that
creates a more sustainable Y and ensures that the Y is accessible to all.

Expanded outreach efforts. This will be a major focus for 2016 to ensure access and inclusion.

Continued to strive to engage 100% of the youth in our community – initiatives like “Set for Success”
and partnerships with the schools are just some of the ways we work towards this goal.

Assembled a great staff team! All key positions are full and we have placed a major emphasis on
staff development and will continue to do so.

Engaged seniors in our community promote healthy living and a sense of connection through
initiatives like “Awesome Walking Seniors”, Active Older Adult trips and programs, and targeted
wellness classes.

Collaborated with the CLC YMCA, BRLT, CMBG and Healthy Lincoln County to leverage Camp K’s brand
and assets, and through a wide array of programming, doubled the size of camp

Through outreach and partnerships, expanded our impact in greater Lincoln County. Just one example
is the 5,000+ free summer meals we provided with the support of the Coulombe Center, Healthy
Lincoln County and the schools.
It was a great year thanks to your support and the work of so many who truly care - thank you!
Yours in service,
Rick Elder

ANNOUNCING A NEW HONORARY TRUSTEE:
PETER MUNDY
“When asked to share a few thoughts on Peter Mundy, a
few immediately came to mind. When Pete retired to the
Boothbay Region in the 80s after a stellar career with
IBM, he and Jackie immediately became involved as active
Y members. Soon after, Pete joined the board and
became involved with the leadership of the Boothbay
Region YMCA as Treasurer and Board President. Over the
next three decades Pete joined a group of tireless YMCA
volunteers to successfully raise millions of dollars in
multiple capital campaigns to expand our Y and Camp
Knickerbocker to what we enjoy today. His leadership
style always included a strong sense of humor, bringing a
smile to someone’s face and providing levity in
sometimes difficult situations.
Pete’s dedication to the greater Boothbay Region
community has been evident through his tireless work
and leadership with both the Congregational Church and
St. Andrews Hospital/Lincoln Health. His contributions of
time, talent and treasure will live on through his past and
present support of the children and families in our
community.
Pete and Jackie Mundy continue to be role models for the
YMCA core values of Youth Development, Healthy Living
and Social Responsibility.
Congratulations and well deserved Peter!”
Mike Harrison
Boothbay Region YMCA Executive Director, 1983 - 2001
Pete Mundy was elected as an honorary
trustee by the Boothbay Region YMCA’s
Board of Directors at the December 16,
2015 meeting. Honorary trustees are
recognized for their exceptionally dedicated
service to the Boothbay Region YMCA.
ARTS FOR ALL
Inspiration & inclusion through the arts
Angela Pinkham has participated in the Arts For All program for three years.
When Angela first started she was hesitant and nervous but these days jumps to
the front of the workshops to help the instructor, Emily Mirabile, teach the dance
moves. At this point, Angela even remembers the moves when Emily forgets!
Angela has become a mentor in the Arts For All program, helping new members
gain confidence and feel comfortable in a group setting. Arts For All has opened
doors for Angela at our Y. She has gained the confidence to attend weekly Zumba
classes and loves getting up in the front of the class to add her own flare to the
choreography. Her enthusiasm brightens the Y and is an inspiration to us all.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
Supporting cancer survivors in healing the whole person
Physical activity and health were always priorities for Jean McKay. Naturally, she
was shocked when some issues that arose after donating blood here at the Y in
March 2015 resulted in a cancer diagnosis. Her life changed – instead of exercising
at the Y and being out and about in the community, she was attending appointments
and researching her diagnosis. Thankfully, Jean’s surgery in August was effective,
but she did not immediately return to her old routines.
Jean joined LIVESTRONG at the YMCA because she felt that she needed to “get up
and back and moving again.” Stepping back into the Y after so many months, Jean
was welcomed into a small group environment with participants who were peers and
incredibly supportive and knowledgeable staff. Jean was overwhelmed and inspired
through the sharing and openness of the other participants’ stories, and the
relationships that she built in the program helped improve her outlook and calmed
her spirits as she faced recovery. While the 12-week program has now ended, Jean
is back at the Y regularly taking classes as part of her “new normal.”
Cancer can take a tremendous toll on a person’s spirit, mind and body. Jean’s story
demonstrates how the LIVESTRONG program provides a safe, supportive
environment for adults living with, through and beyond cancer in our community.
