PAY IT
FORWARD
BOOTHBAY REGION YMCA
2014 ANNUAL REPORT
MISSION STATEMENT:
To strengthen individuals, families and
the community, guided by Christian
principles including the universal values
of caring, honesty, respect and
responsibility through programs that
will build a healthy spirit, mind and
body for all.
Dear Y Friends,
The Boothbay Region YMCA is known for many things: youth sports programs, swim lessons, a place to
workout, childcare and summer camps to support working families, our numerous music, dance and
performing arts programs and our wonderful facilities across the street from the schools and property
at Camp Knickerbocker. However, most recently it what’s happening through partnerships and
collaborations that our Y is strengthening community with a focus on youth development, healthy living
and social responsibility.
When our community comes together we accomplish great things – it is our way to “Pay it Forward”.
We cannot underestimate the generosity of one individual or of our own YMCA working together with
others to better the lives of our community members. Here are a few examples of what partnerships
meant to our community in 2014...
“SET FOR SUCCESS” is reaching an average of 375 elementary students each year, since it’s designmode which began in 2011. The goal is to help every elementary student be equipped with educational
tools to be SET FOR SUCCESS when they return to school in the Fall.
What began in the Y Gym with backpacks , and all teacher required school supplies – and a beverage
center, hot dogs and popcorn popping, a hair salon and a few other community booths, has now
reached a new level of growth...so big we have outgrown the gym and morphed into an almost full
Field House. Thanks to the vision of Sue Burge, community volunteers, donors and our Y.
BRYMCA Fill the Bus Food Drive twice annually in partnership with Hannaford, our Y and this year for
the first time ever...Bigelow Laboratory staff and volunteers to help feed those in our community who
are hungry.
Camp Strategic Plan ensures we fill our 65 acres at Camp Knickerbocker with children of all ages
engaging them in outdoor education, the arts, sports, swimming, boating, fishing, camp traditions and
promoting friendships for a lifetime. We do this through the support of the Boothbay Region Land
Trust, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, the Central Lincoln County YMCA and this summer, Healthy
Lincoln County where all of our campers will receive a FREE breakfast and lunch daily.
Seniors Walk for Free at the Y is a partnership with Health & Wellness Foundation and provides access
to the Y’s track every Tuesday and Thursday. This initiative has reached 100’s of seniors supporting
their health and built lasting relationships.
Harborfest 5k & Half Marathon - a first annual event organized and led by our YMCA with volunteers
from the Community Trails Partnership which raised $5K toward the community sidewalk project. In
addition, this race brought runners who stayed, shopped and ate in the Boothbay Region from more
than 25 different states and 3 different countries.
Windjammer Days & the Y's Annual Rocky Coast Road Race aligned in 2014 which resulted in double
the amount of runners and walkers.
Meet the PT every Wednesday at 8am at the YMCA is a FREE resource through a partnership with
Lincoln Healthcare and Our Y. Members enjoy FREE consultation with a Physical Therapist from Lincoln
Healthcare.
Volunteerism & Giving – Voluntary contributions of time and treasure that fund, support and lead the
Y’s critical work, so that we can reach more people. A look through this Annual Report is a glimpse of
the capacity of our Y and community when we come together and “Pay it Forward”. It is through the
contributions of our donors that the Y was able to provide nearly 700 individuals financial assistance
and support community needs. Our 322 volunteers provide the gift of time – 6244 hours, hours in the
gym, on the field, teaching classes, guiding the Y and supporting many of the initiatives listed above …
Thank you!
We look forward to Paying It Forward in 2015.

“You can't live a perfect day without doing
something for someone who will never be able to
repay you.” John Wooden
I thought about what the Y means to me.
And honestly, I had never spent much time hanging out at
a Y during my lifetime, so I learned this from the Boothbay
Region Y, over the past few years.
The Y is about so much more than physical wellness. It’s
about a safe place to belong. No judgments. Doesn’t
matter if you are rich or poor, fat or skinny, pretty or ugly,
old or young, a republican or a democrat, Christian or
atheist. No matter what you are, you are accepted,
respected and treated with kindness. Your wellness
matters, both physical and mental, and all who represent
the Y are there to help you find the best version of
yourself, everyday that you are willing to put in the effort
to look for it.
“WHAT DOES THE Y MEAN TO ME”
BY LORI BENOIT REYNOLDS
The Y is about giving back to the community on every
level…..Paying it Forward. Remember that tear jerker,
true story movie? the little boy who started a movement
that spread across the nation?
Well, if you ask me, this community (and probably every community) could use a Pay It Forward movement as a
reminder of what we all need to spend more time doing! And there is NO better organization to lead us, than the
Y! There are a lot of cool ways that Pay it Forward could tie into your 2015 events, beginning with the Annual
Dinner. Ideas are bursting out of my head. Let me know if you want to chat more. Either way…..I know you don’t
hear this anywhere near often enough so, THANK YOU Andy Hamblett and Y Staff, for Paying it Forward to our
community every day!
