Ormond Beach PAL’s
Youth Directors’ concern for the homeless in
our area led to another
blanket/coat drive. Collection
boxes
were
placed in several City
facilities for donations of
coats and new and/or
slightly used blankets.
As always, City employee donations came
in abundance.
Cam Walden, Jordan Glenn, Keyona Rivera, Yasmine Glenn, Tanner
Dalton, Tyauna Payne, Tiara Glenn
At Monday’s meeting, the youth asked to have the collected items delivered to the homeless due to the prediction of approaching cold weather.
They helped load the PAL van with numerous bags of warm items and a
delivery was made to the Halifax Urban Ministries Star Family Service
Center. More donations throughout the week prompted another delivery
to complete the drive!
Staff and volunteers of the Center greeted the group with a smile, a thank
you and helped unload the donated items. Center staff shared with the
group the mechanics of how the Center works. A meal is prepared for the
recipients and always served
with a smile. Sometimes the
meal and smile are the only
ones they receive throughout
the day. The group was invited to visit again for a tour
of the facility. The youths
would like to accept their invitation and return for a tour of
the facility. They want to volunteer in the kitchen to help
serve both a meal and a
Volunteers for HUM Star Family Services Center and PAL Youth
smile!

couples, friends and caregivers
spent the night dancing to their favorite love songs.
The next big event will be the annual Shining S.T.A.R.S. Pageant and Fashion Show on February 27 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at
the Performing Arts Center. Come join us to watch the celebrities shine on the stage!

Motown & Dolly Parton Salute
The Motown and Dolly Parton Salute was performed on Saturday,
February 13th, at the Performing Arts Center. Myles Savage and his
group, the Last Original Stars, performed a Motown tribute that featured hit songs from groups including The Platters, The Temptations,
The Marvelettes, and The Supremes.
Dolly Parton is a platinum album
selling recording artist, Golden
Globe nominated movie actress,
and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Tribute artist Sandy Anderson looks and sounds so
much like Dolly Parton that she has fooled members of
Dolly Parton’s own family. Sandy’s performance stole
the show amazing the audience with her memorable
performance.
Elton John and Tom Jones
Tribute
The Elton John and Tom Jones Tribute show was
performed at the Performing Arts Center on Friday,
February 12th. Canadian tribute artist David La
Fame has worked for years perfecting the sound
and style of the two British pop music superstars.
Along with his four-piece band, David La Fame
sang the hit songs of Tom Jones including “It’s Not
Unusual,” “What’s New Pussycat,” and “Delilah.”
The audience was singing along to the Elton John’s
hits, “Benny and The Jets,” and “Your Song,” which
were highlights of the evening.

The Casements Plans
Enviro Camp 2016
At The Casements, staff members work by a simple philosophy: it’s never too early to start planning. This motto rings true
in regards to The Casements’ summer camp program. Boxes
and bins fill the second floor art room as staff members assemble an inventory list for 2016’s Enviro Camp. From gardening tools and solar system models to geodes and ant farms,
nature and science activities cover the tables. Camp supplies
are organized and categorized to create the camp’s themed
weeks.
Since 2006, The Casements has housed and developed Enviro Camp. Geared toward children ages six to ten, the summer camp program uses art and science to teach youths about nature on a global
and local scale. While Enviro Camp usually runs for four weeks at The Casements
facility, big changes are on the horizon for the 2016 summer schedule.
Because Enviro Camp will act as the Ormond Beach
Environmental Discovery Center’s inaugural program, the camp’s eleventh year will feature exciting
new modifications. This year, Enviro Camp will last for
two four-week sessions. The first session will begin
June 13 and end July 8. The second session will start
July 11 and continue until August 5. Additionally, Enviro
Camp’s hours have changed, for 2016, camp will be
held Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Registration for Enviro Camp begins on April 1. Children may enroll per week or for
an entire session. Camp costs $100 per week, and children are
asked to bring a lunch, drinks, and two snacks.
Stay tuned for updates and additional information
as The Casements continues to prepare for the
2016 summer curriculum. If you have any questions, please call The Casements at 386-676-3216.

Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF) has partnered with the City of Ormond
Beach to offer free quarterly workshops to interested individuals.
The next quarterly workshop topic is bankruptcy. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March

Coordinator, after the workshop has concluded.
