Provincial's Message
Prayerlessness: The Curse of Fraternal Life
Prayerlessness is one of the great torments of our
community and of our fraternal life. We have fallen into
the tyranny of the urgent, which demands that we rush
from one urgent (so called urgent thing) thing to the
next. The problem with this is that the most important
things are hardly ever urgent. This can leave us always
doing urgent things but never doing important things.
Prayer is one of those important things, and among the
highest priority. Prayer helps us to identify what matters most and
strengthens our hearts and minds to give priority to those things in our daily
lives. What could be more important than prayer?
Prayer is nothing more, and nothing less, than a response to the God who
continually and in all places invites us into a deeper relationship with Him. As
St. Paul urges us, “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)- or in other
words, pray at all times and in all places, and allow prayer to inuence and to
shape every part of your life and every action that you perform. St. Francis
was able, with the grace of God, to do just that- so much so that he was seen
to be “not so much praying as becoming totally prayer.” (Thomas of CelanoRemembrance of the Desire of a Soul, #95)
You know, prayerlessness distorts the human person. Without prayer, over
time we forget the attitudes and qualities that make us uniquely human
(compassion, generosity, humility, fortitude etc.) and we become more and
more like mere animals. Therefore, Prayer leads us to catch a glimpse of thebest-version-of-ourselves, and helps us to develop the virtue necessary to
celebrate our best selves.
3
A Capuchin friar who belongs to a fraternity, and thus to the Order, prays,
eats, works, and shares his life with his brothers. He experiences moments
of happiness and joy, and he accepts the moments of difculty and conict
that unfailingly come to visit us. Just a baby in the rst years of life learns many
norms of behaviour from his father and mother, internalizes them and makes
them his own, one who is welcomed into our life must be taught to love and
internalize the essential values of our charism.... An element from
Benedictine spirituality stating that a monk in the elds far from the
monastery, upon hearing the bell calling them to common prayer which he
cannot attend because of the distance- will suspend his work and unite
himself spiritually to the prayer of his community. (From the Circular of Br.
Mauro Jöhri-Friars Minor Capuchin, Their Identify & Sense of Belonging 2.2)
“Desiring above all things the Spirit of the Lord and Its holy activity, praying
always God with a pure heart, let us offer people a witness of authentic
prayer in such a way that they may see and sense in our faces and in the life of
our fraternities the goodness and kindness of God present in the world”
(Capuchin Constitutions #45:8).
Brothers, "We have been called to heal wounds,
to unite what has fallen apart,
and to bring home those who have lost their way" (St. Francis of Assisi).
God wishes that each of His beloved children contribute to the ongoing
creation and renewal of the world through the diverse gifts that have been
given to each just for that purpose. In that sense, we are all called to ministry
and so we are all called to continue Christ’s mission of healing the world.

Capuchin Provincialate, Enikepadu
Happy to meet you all through these few lines in Navavani
Province Day Celebration: On 11 September Province day was
celebrated in our Provincialate for which a good number of brothers came
together. The celebration was clubbed with the results and discussions on
the survey conducted by Rev. Fr. Paul Parathazham last year. The survey has
really helped us to look into ourselves as brothers of the Province. It has
enlightened us to realize our weaknesses as well as strengths. The enormous
possibilities our Province has got is laid open through this survey. The
programme of the day started at 9 a.m in the morning. The discussion on the
survey ended at 4:30 p.m. It is followed by a volley ball match through which
the brothers had beautiful time to relax and refresh themselves. The Holy
Eucharist began at 6: 30 pm presided over by Provincial Minsiter Br. Chinnu
Polisetty in which he has enlightened the brothers with thought provoking
and inspiring homily. The culmination of the celebration was with grand
agape clubbed with cultural gala performed by brothers from minor
seminary and major seminary from Enikepadu and Janampet respectively.
Before the agape the council representing the province congratulated Br.
Chinnu Polisetty our Provincial for being elected as the President of CCMSI.
The Whole programme was organised by the Provincial and Council with
the help of the brothers from Provincialate and Minor Seminary.
Feast of St. Francis: This year we had the Transitus - commemoration of
the death of St. Francis in Avutapally together with the community over
there and the Franciscans from the neighbourhood. It was presided over by
our Provincial Minister Br. Chinnu Polisetty, and the homily was preached by
Br. Joseph Thumma and the choir from Assisi Ashram, Enikepadu. The
commemoration ended with a fraternal meal. Thanks to Br. Joseph Thumma
20
and the community in Avutapally for all the arrangements they have made.
The feast of St. Francis was celebrated with the Eucharist at 10:30 a.m.
presided over by Br. Chinnu Polisetty. The word of God is shared by Br.
Melchior Kata. We had guests who joined the celebration from our
neighbourhood. The feast came to an end with the festal meal in the
Provincialate.
Fraternal Visit: We had a very good number of brothers who visited our
provincialate. Some of the rare guests who visited us are Br. Steve Rodrigues
from St. Antony Province, Goa, Br. Remish Ekka the newly elected provincial
of St. Fidelis Province, Br. Antony Thaliyath, Br. Praveen Gopu with two of
his friends from Italy, Br. Satish Karumanchi, Br. Kiran Avvari & New Priest
from Krist Jyothi Province. Thank you dear brothers for your fraternal Visit.
Other Events and Information: We congratulate Br. Chinnu Polisetty on
being elected as the President of CCMSI. He is now occupied with greater
responsibility to serve the Indian Provinces together and look into the issues
concerning Indian Provinces collectively. He has completed his visit to
Europe where he attended the new provincials meet and he also made a
fraternal visit to our brothers in Italy, Germany and Switzerland. At present
he is in USA where he participated in the Provincial Chapter of the New
Jersey Province with which we have collaboration. In the month of
December he is leaving to Europe once again to attend a meeting
representing CCMSI. We had the Privilege to witness regency meeting as
well as meeting for the school correspondents of the Province in the
Provincialate. On 27th of October the birthday of Br. Sudhakar Yellapu is
celebrated in the Provincialate in the presence of Br. Lourdu Showry Madanu
and the immediate neighbouring community.

Loreto Capuchin Ashram, Karunapuram,
Warangal.
Hello dear brothers, Greetings of love. The new born baby (Loreto
Capuchin Ashram) of Marymatha province wishes to share the news. We
are 3+11 brothers in our community.
1. A Beautiful Nest: Marymatha province had a long lasting dream to have
a proper house for its pre-novitiate purpose. Finally it is realized and is
inaugurated by our provincial minister Br. Chinnu Polisetty and blessed by
Dr. Udumula Bala, bishop of Warangal diocese, on 14th August 2014. On
the occasion, all the visionaries of this project and the donors were
remembered and thanked. Many Priests and Religious attended the
inauguration function. Many of our Friars from different communities
joined us to make the event colourful and thankful. We thank one and all
for your gracious presence on this historic event.
2. Wow! Clean and Green: In the new house, our main concern is on the
surroundings of our new foundation. The Community spends most of its
time on giving an attractive shape to our pre-novitiate house. The
beautiful garden is planted in front of the house. The kitchen garden is
already in full swing in producing vegetables. Mega orchard is in its
inception. Though we were late in arriving at the place and the rainy
season is gone by, the untimely rains helped us to plant different plants
and fruit trees. All 14 of us are active and energetic in different parts of the
compound to plan and to plant with verities of seeds and plants. The
visitors and neighbours now wonder to nd our place with eco-friendly
and producing.
3. Many Returns of the Day: We had the privilege of wishing our elder
brothers Arogyam Bandanadam and Innaiah Polisetti on their celebration
22
days. We celebrated on July 31st, the feast day of St. Ignatius Loyola, the
patron saint of our dear Rector. On August 18th we had the combined
birthday celebrations of Brs. Arogyam and our Rector. Sisters from 4
convents of Assisi parish and the neighbouring Parish, Fr. Prakash joined
us to thank and praise the Lord on the auspicious occassion.
4. Happy Feast: With our arrival here, the Karunapuram Campus gets a
new look. In the campus there are three Franciscan houses (Assisi sisters,
Conventual Fathers and Capuchins). All these houses are adjacent to one
another. The Campus calls it as “Franciscan corner”. On the occasion of
the feast of our founder and father St. Francis, we had a combined
celebration of “Transitus” on 3rd of October at Loreto Ashram,
Karunapuram; and on 4th October the Loreto community joined with
our brothers at Assisinagar parish, Warangal to celebrate the feast of our
father Francis.
5. Thanks: Nearly 3 months of our present academic year we spent in
Assisinagar parish, Warangal, while the construction of our pre-novitiate
is on the process. Brs. Arogyam, Chinnappa and Jayaprasad, the
community members of Shanthinilayam, were kind enough to
accommodate us (the pre-novitiate community). Two communities lived
happily with sharing, bearing and caring in all the activities. The slogan of
the psalmist “How pleasant it is when brothers live in unity” is
experienced. Also it was a great advantage by staying near to the new
construction place, Karunapuram. Br. Innaiah Polisetti, our Rector, could
supervise the construction and give a Franciscan touch to the building
(Loreto Capuchin Ashram). Thanks to all our brothers.
6. Fraternal Visits: We were glad to welcome some of our brothers. Br.
Joseph Thumma visited us on 19th Sept. who came with a gift
(Refrigerator) to our new community. Thanks to Br. Provincial and the
23
Auvtapally community for your thoughtfulness. Brs. Chinnu Polisetty,
Melchior and Mariadas visited on 16th October. Brs. Lourdushowry,
Samuel, Deenabandhu and Sudhakar Lawrence visited us on 24th
October. Dear brothers, by your fraternal visits our joy is doubled.
7. The Well and the wellness: We have a big agricultural open well in our
compound, the only water source we have. But it was surrounded by big
and small thorny trees and plants. Because of this the water is
contaminated. Though it was a simple matter of cutting them down, one
big tree was almost grew leaning into the well. In the process of cutting it
down the whole tree fell into the well. With simple methods we could not
bring it out. It remained buried in the water almost for 5 days. By that
time the well water was stinking. It was a costly affair to bring it out. With
the help of J.C.B. and daring efforts of Mr. Jamla, the tree was brought
out. The operation took nearly 3 hours. Again, recently a cat fell into it.
Often our well water is contaminated and smelling. During those days
(for almost a week) we had gone to the neighbouring seminary to meet
our water needs. The well has no protection. We are living with the open
well and open to many more dangers. We cannot but adjust and take bath
with this unhygienic water.
8. Sister Sickness and Brother Help: The mother of our Rector Mrs.
Lourdamma is suffering from cancer for long 9 years. Since one year her
health condition is very critical. We are regularly praying for all the sick
especially for the speedy recovery of suffering mother of Brs. Innaiah (our
Rector) and John Antony Polisetty. Recently the mother of Br. Mathias
Basani is admitted in the hospital, Fathimanagar, with Dengue fever.
When she was badly in need of blood, our brothers Yesupadam and
Jikriyo donated blood for her speedy recovery. We thank God for we
could do something to relieve the pain of the suffering mothers.

College Chapel for which all the Franciscan brothers and sisters were
gathered. Fr. Lourdushowry Madanu, the Rector of St. Francis College

Ÿ

feast of the institute, brothers and sisters from the institute and the
campus participated in Holy Eucharist which was presided over by His
Excellency Bishop Paul Maipan, Bishop of Khammam. It was followed by a
sumptuous meal in Brindisi Bhavan.
Ÿ
Spiritual Renewal: As usual we had annual retreat, which began on 21st
evening in the month of October. It was animated by Rev. Fr. Macqueen
SCJ. Some of our friars namely Br. Balashowry Koteru, Br. Yesuravi, Br.
Jayant, Br. Suresh Nayak, Br. Alekha Kumar Tanti, Br. Fernando, Br. Amir
and Regent brothers have joined us for the retreat.
Ÿ

best to the new ofce bearers.
Ÿ

organized three days of seminar from 29 - 31 October on Leadership and
Formation in the Church for the world. The resource persons are Rev. Fr.
Thomas Dienberg OFM Cap, Rev. Fr. Amaldass SJ and Rev. Sr. Pushpa
FMM. As the topic is so relevant a good many number of fathers and
sisters in and around campus participated in it.

St. Francis of Assisi Ashram, Virupapuram
GREETINGS OF PEACE AND JOY........
Love (Faith in action):
Christian faith demands not only Profession but also Proclamation. If I want
to grow in faith; I know that reading and prayer are not enough. They are
necessary, but they are not enough. My reading and prayer need to lead to
love, which could be called “faith in action”. Daily Mass is a great way to enter
into prayer each day. So is the Daily Rosary. Prayer is communion with God.
Prayer actually puts us in intimate communion with the creator of all that is.
That creator also happens to be our father. He loves us so much and He wants
to spend time with us. So also our community focus on this faith in action
formula. The Pastoral Ministry here is active and alive. Every day we have Mass
in the evening and we go to the villages every Sunday and Thursday. Now and
then we have family prayers wherein people participate faithfully and pray for
the family.
New arrivals:
Community is the fullness of Home. Home is where I am known and loved,
listened and appreciated. Therefore, it is where I am free to be my true self. It is
where I live not simply in my family's love, but in everyone's love. It is where I
am at home in everyone's love and acceptance. Knowing this our Fr. Prem
Kumar Garapati and Br. Chatty Gautham Sagar (the Regent) have come to the
Home of St. Francis of Assisi Ashram, Virupapuram.
Tuition:
“Education has to produce the perfect man, sound in character, active in
mind and strong in body” said by Plato. So, St. Francis of Assisi Ashram believes
that education is all round drawing out the best in child and man-body, mind
and soul. Every day, morning and evening except on Sundays, there is tuition
for the children who study in the neighbouring schools. There are about 40
children (1st to 5th standard) who come to the tuition. When one of them
(teachers) is absent Br.Gautham, the Regent looks after the tuition. Two
Teachers takes care of the tuition. The children are good and co-operative.
They also help us in cleaning the surroundings.
26
The Manner of working:
“Let the work of each brother be an expression of the entire fraternity. Let
each one, according to his God-given talents and the condition of his age and
health, make full use of his energies with joy, keeping in mind the needs of the
fraternity” said by our father Francis. It is true and our community members
are following the same. Frs. Francis Pasala and Prem Kumar are busy with the
necessities of the Church and people require them and Br. Gautham, the
Regent is busy with cultivating verities of vegetables and owers in limited
space that we have. In this way we work together with God who calls and
chooses whomever He wishes, and we contribute to the good of the Church.
