Subject: Fwd: About Ronald Gipson
Aieee. There seems to be so little good news about old friends these days. My years of living across the street from him, summer adventures of fireworks, riding bikes, playing badminton and BB guns, other times electronics exploration, Explorer Scouts and digging wires under the caliche street so we could communicate are long gone, but I certainly didn't imagine this would be the 2013 news from his mother... ‐‐ Rick Herndon Begin forwarded message: From: Winnie Hatley <[email protected]> Date: March 4, 2013, 6:30:48 AM CST Ronald is in Abilene Hospital with pneumonia and bad lung cancer. They will do a biopsy today but the Dr. told his girls they were sure of this and if they are right they can do nothing for him. He has been in a bad shape for a long time. So let Robert know and I will let you know more after we hear. Winnie Hatley From: Karen Hudson

I talked to Joe today. He is in Austin in the hospital. He now has a drip to

Subject: SACHS63 50th Class Reunion
Dear SACHS63 50th Class Reunion Planning Committee Chairperson:
Mary Bollinger Murdock’s family requested that I notify you that she will
no longer be able to attend high school reunions. As many of you may
know, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about five years ago. Her
condition is now progressing rapidly and she will be moving into an
Alzheimer’s Facility in the Denver area soon. Mary has attended and
enjoyed many of the SACHS class reunions. I think she would want you to
remember her as she was when you visited with her at the last reunion. She
is still that sweet, wonderful person.
Please change Mary’s permanent mailing address to her daughter, Mrs. Ian
(Meredith) Mitchell, in order to continue to stay in contact with her. Also, I
would be glad to provide any additional information if you would prefer.

The high point in the collection was that someone had scanned in at high resolution (in 4 chunks) their panoramic class photo. Maybe I've slept since then, but I don't recall our class having one of these made. Does anyone have a copy if it exists? Can you scan it in with REALLY high resolution (600 or 1200 d.p.i.) and send me a CD of it? I'd be glad to reimburse you for it. If you are going to do this, let's communicate via email, so I don't get 3 dozen of them. <g> I'd also like to get a similarly high‐resolution scan of the Lee Jr. High front steps band photo that I saw at one of the last two reunions. I actually still have mine, but it was ruined by water when it rained during one of my moves. <sigh> It is from '58 or '59, I think. Pax, Rick Herndon Mathis, TX From: fafigueroa

Subject: Ending Balance - 45th Reunion.
When Ed Martindale sent out the DVDs for the 45th Reunion, he requested $10 for each DVD.
Many people sent extra. Some asked that it be added to the fund to start the 50th Reunion,
and some gave the extra to Ed for his effort. Ed passed all the extra on to the 50th Reunion fund.
As a result, we now have $3,886.01 to start the next reunion. That is $121.17 more than we had
to start the 45th. Thanks to everyone.

Subject: SACHS '63 Paver at new county library?
I received the below email (edited a little) today as a forward from a member of the Class of '67.
If you have friends from that class, this might be news for you. But the idea sounded like one to
share with our own class. Any thoughts on this paver idea?
Peace, Rick Herndon (nee Ervin Grosshans), Mathis, Texas
The County is remodeling the old Hemphill-Wells downtown building and turning it into a new Tom
Green County Library: The Reunion committee voted to purchase a paver for the Beacon Of The
Future Campaign: www.beaconcofthefuture.org or call Charlotte Lewis at 325-949-2951.
The Reunion Committee voted on the 8" x 8" Paver, $250-$499.00, has 14 characters & spaces per
line, 4 lines maximum.
Example: Central High
School
Class Of
1967
This is what I would like to purchase is the next size up: 8" x 12" Paver, $500-$999, 21 characters &
spaces per line
Example: Central High School
Class of 1967
4A Football State Champions
Knowledge Through Reading
If we could get our classmates to just send in $10.00-$20.00 we could see this paver become a reality.
Please make checks payable to the CHS Class of 1967. Please send check to Herschel Carmichael, 217
West Ave A, San Angelo, Texas 76903. Our first donation is from Daryl & Gail (Stroud) Kirkham$100.00.
The Class of 1964 is doing this also and maybe more classes will participate. I see the remodel
everyday and this is going to be a CLASS A Library for Tom Green county. Let’s do it! Go
Bobcats!! I would like to see a picture and an article in the New Book about The Class of 1967.
Thank You!

Thanks to all of the committee for the great job on putting this (and others in the past)

I vote for October, since some of us high country folks have trouble with the heat in July.
If the majority wants the summer, I can live with that also.
Since most of us are retired or will be for the 50th, about any time will work. I thought
things went smooth with all of the functions at one place. Some of us tend to get
confused if events are moved around, but it is not a big deal either way.

My 3 cents worth (inflation, you know):
Assuming it is not too early to offer input on the questions raised for the 50th, and
assuming I will still be viable, I vote for the following:
1) Date: July
2) Functions at different locations. Have the registration at the main location as
the dance and banquet on Saturday night, but try to have either a Happy Hour at
a popular nightclub (each pays his own, of course) on Friday night or a picnic
type gathering (like at Albert's farm in the old days) for noon on Saturday in lieu
of the downtown tour.
Heck, I don't think we are too old to have all 3 events.
Keep up the excellent work,

What a great reunion!!!! How could it have been any better? Only if the rest of the class had been
there could it possibly have been greater.
Wasn't our entertainment funny and hit close to where we are in life at our age?! It's true that our
body parts are only guaranteed for 40 years and after that it's down hill all the way! Of course I'm
only thirty-thru and I am certainly a young woman! (Berth-el Reid Young) I did good! Didn't I?!
Well, here we are a few weeks later with all of our lives changing and our nation being faced with
unmeasurable and innumerable challenges as we are being shoved into the European style of
government and lifestyle. Yet our soldiers still fight for America. What kind of America will our
grandchildren inherit?
When myself and so many of us were young and ambitious, we were either not wise enough or
perhaps too misdirected to make much of a difference in our communities and in our
country unlike those who served in the armed services, became missionaries, preachers,
teachers, or medical and social workers and servants of the cities. Maybe others like me were
just caught up in the worries and finances that young lives and raising a family brings. I wish I had
made more of a difference. I wish I had. I wish I had been more selfless, and more loving. I wish I
had been more vigilant in serving others. I wish I had left a bigger mark on and in our world. I
have done so little.
I am renewed as I am reminded that I still have time because I am still breathing. As we are
approaching retirement years we all can still make a difference. Let's go do it and have fun doing
so!
I am going to put down some things that are important to me or are who I am. I have a new e-mail
address and I want all who read this feel free to e-mail me with ideas of service to whomever.
Let's see where this takes me to or us to by our next reunion. Maybe this will go somewhere and
the world, or America, or Texas, or our county, our city, our community, or our family will be better
off because of the upcoming difference. Maybe heaven will even have a few more names
reserved in it up there. What do you think?
I am a Bible believing born again sinner. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend,
and somewhat of a mentor. (I am just who I am.)
I have had 8 years of art and I think 26 or 28 college hours, many of them Bible classes.
I am a portrait artist and designer that can just about pull off anything that has to do with
beautifying or creating. (I'm ok, but I'm not the best.)
I am tender hearted, empathetic, an encourager, a little quiet, love life, and love to laugh. I believe
in the right to choose life and a charter member of the Right To Life movement in Gilmer, Texas.
I am active in our church, work as a design consultant and Hunter Douglas Window Fashions
Gallery manager; I read my Bible, e-mails, and Christian literature.
I listen to local news, watch Fox cable news network, and watch decorating shows. My favorite
program is the Gaither Homecoming hour Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m. What seems to be
important to me is being a bibical wife and homemaker, faithful Christian, good mother,
grandmother, friend, and making a difference somewhere that Terry, my husband, will agree with.
(He is a protector.)
What do you do that makes a difference, what do you know about, or what ideas do you have?
Blessings to you all,
Berth-el Reid Young,

Tim, attached is a letter that was written by Elenie.
She was responsible for setting up the dinning room, cleaning the tables, helping with
the lights, etc. She also worked in the restaurant.
At breakfast Sunday morning, she made some really wonderful comments about our
class as some of us were eating breakfast. I asked her if she would write it down for us,
and this is what she wrote.
Those of us at breakfast listening to her thought that it was quite a tribute to our class.

Went to Texas Tech with 3 of our classmates (Jerry Stanford, Norm Schuessler, Mackie

We all went through Air Force ROTC at Tech. They talked me into joining Air Force
ROTC and I was the only one to stay 20 years. Norm and I were Wing Commanders in
our senior year. Jerry and Mackie passed away at an early age. Norm and I have places
in Tennessee where we get together from time to time. Sharon and I met while I was in
Air Force graduate school and we are celebrating our 40th anniversary on Dec 14, 2008.
We have two sons, Derek and Adam. We lost Adam at age 24. He was an exceptional
mechanical engineer from Colorado and is laid to rest in Boulder. We visit him quite
often because Derek and Haley and their two children Brandon and Katie live in Denver.
Derek is COO and CFO at Seattle Fish Company and was recently honored as one of
Denver’s 40 under 40. We live in New Mexico, but are now working in Washington
State.
My two older sisters (Maria Edna and Wilma) and my mother still live in Texas. Mom
just celebrated her 90th birthday and we had a grand family reunion in San Antonio. She
still lives in her own house and drives in daylight in Del Rio. She cleans her house and

Thank you, thank you, thank you to each and every one of you that worked hard and
diligently on this year's reunion. It was exceptional, to say the least.
With so many on a committee, it is not always easy for all to agree on something, but the
end product is a testimony to your dedication, love and respect for one another. I am
looking forward to the 50th, but hope it is not that long before I see you again.
Take care and I love you all.....GO BOBCATS!!!!

Subject: Reunion
Everyone—
Just a note to say we found out too late to make arrangements for the upcoming reunion, as I’d really like to
be there to see everyone; we’ll be there for the next one for sure! Many great memories; it was neat to read
the updates on the website. Y’all enjoy the good times and know that I’ll be thinking about you.
Linda and I are both retired (hard to believe we are that old--ouch) and we are having a grand time enjoying
this new era in our lives and very thankful for continued good health. We have just finished a remodel on
our lake home in Tennessee, on Lake Tellico just southwest of Knoxville, and hope to be moving there
permanently within the next few months. There are 3 golf courses in the development (Tellico Village) and
the mountains are 45 minutes away, lots of fun things to do close by. Our house in Spartanburg SC is on
the market (slow market, thanks to the sub-prime folks) but will sell when the right buyer comes along.
Currently we are splitting our time between Spartanburg and the lake, with heavy emphasis on the lake
time!
Take care, please stay in touch!

Good Morning Karen,
I would really like to attend the reunion, however, I am finishing up on a major project and can't really
commit at this time. If there is any possibility, it would be a last minute opportunity and would be too late
to register, also, I could only make it to the Saturday evening dinner and dance. Let me know if this
would be possible and I will plan accordingly.

Wanted to thank you and the committee for all the work you are doing. Originally my sister and I
decided to come together as we wanted to come and leave flowers for our mother, as reunion is
on her birthday, (sorry if that sounds morbid) ....but the more we think about it, the more we're
looking forward to just getting a chance to "go back home".....I'm sure I speak not only for us, but

This has been just great being able to get back in touch with the class after all these years!!! I
couldn't find who has put all this together online. Please post it because I want to thank you as I
am sure many others do. You even included a place to add it to my favorites. Thanks!
I also want to thank Bill Green who I ran into on another site looking for info on a possible class
reunion, which eventually led me to this site.
What has happened to me? Well I married a former football player, had 2 kids, took (about) 26
hours of college, took 8 years of art and design, divorced, designed for a builder several years,
painted portraits, sculptured etc. etc., helped design a theme park, remarried, and am living
happily ever after.
I am married to Terry Young. (He made me a Young woman). We have a little condo in Houston
and have between us 5-1 kids and 12 grandkids. Twins are in the oven and should be here
around (OH NO!) reunion time. That will be 14!!! FOURTEEN!! That is a dozen + 2!!. ---- 6+8!!--Terry kept telling them to get goldfish but THEY DIDN'T LISTEN!!!
I am still somewhat in art and design and am listed as a professional portrait artist. (ha!) I haven't
painted portraits in years but I am still in the design arena. I am slowing down a bit, but I still help
clients with the updating of their homes and decor.
My husband and I are active at Second Baptist Church here. We stay busy and are in good
health and just really enjoy life. Depending on the upcoming birth of the next 2 gifts from God to
us, we are planning to be at the reunion. You won't recognize me and I probably won't recognize
you but let's surprise each other and try to guess who we are!

Hello everyone! Can it really be 45 years? I recall on about our first reunion, another
class was having their 50th at the same time. Pictures in the paper showed nothing
but a bunch of old geezers! Guess we are about to fit that profile soon.
We are both retired now, as of January 1, 2007. Still in the Denver area and
probably will remain so. Thanks to the planning committee for taking this task on.
You all do a great job and we appreciate it, especially those of us from out of town.
Also, thanks for scheduling it in October instead of the middle of the summer. That
heat and humidity is hard on us high country folks!
My good friend David Dishinger passed away last February. The only other
classmates we keep up with are Mary (Bollinger) Murdock, who also lives in the Mile
High City, and Barry Vokes, who is in the Waco area.
Other than that, we are trying to enjoy retirement, but finding out how expensive it
really is! Isn’t it fun getting old? At least we don’t miss the rat race of working and
fighting traffic every day. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Please note new email
address.

45th Year Reunion
October 10, 11, & 12th 2008
Wow. Amazing change of date. I'd already begun to warn folks that I'd be there on the July 4th weekend.
I'll clear my busy retiree calendar for the new dates. :-P
Several totally unsolicited comments for the group from the peanut gallery:
1. Please turn on the security mode in the PDF file to disallow the file to be saved as plain text to keep
folks from using Web 'bots that crawl around the Web gathering up information from sites like the one I
guess Tim Leifeste set up at www.metalinks.com/sachs63/default.htm It will be a little harder for US to
grab and export information to our omnipresent PDAs (heck, don't YOU have one?), but it will be really
much more slippery for the folks we don't want to automatically grab them, in my opine. We can all
identify with the fight to keep the dreaded SPAM down to a dull roar. ( :-D )
Ref: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=327650
2. Let's start a Google group for folks who want to get a jump start on conversing to do so. The class of
'64 has had one going since before their last reunion. I've joined in some discussions there. I suggest ours
be through Google groups, since Yahoo groups has too much advertising in their messages. I'd certainly
volunteer to set it up. Just give me the "official" word and I'll DO IT.
3. Pat yourselves on the back. I know that's a hard concept for us ole farts, but you guys are already
started, slaving and sweating in the west Texas heat and your easy chair, surging ahead with hard-fought
victories such as the change of date while swilling Coors beer (at least in my imagination). I suggest you do
this by putting in the names of the loose-bound committee of folks currently working at the bottom of
each email. That's not too hard to do and we'll all know whose, er, ah, lips to kiss when we do finally get
together in jolly San Angelo.
I certainly have a solution for those members of the committee who are plagued with insomnia. I just
discovered a feature (?) of Adobe Acrobat that allows the text of the document to be read ALOUD! Start
this one at the beginning with your laptop near the position of repose and I just about guarantee sleep
within 5 minutes. :-)
And, now for the inevitable corrections.
The middle lines of the entry for me should now read
PO BOX 739
GANADO TX 77962-0739
361-771-2321
361-676-2598 cell
Gary Eisenbach died several years ago. For further verification, you can ask his cousin Rick. I remember
seeing that in the Austin paper.
Ronald Gipson just retired a few months ago. He's moved to the country not toooo far from San Angelo and
his contact info is now:
229 CR 219
WINGATE TX 79566
325-743-2005
[email protected]
Dorothy Maier Walton moved to San Antonio a year or two ago. The Carlsbad address/phone are no good.
My mother (before she died 7/7/7) gave me Sissy's cell number. I can't get anyone to answer when I've
called (including just now) and the number is not set up to take messages <drat>. So, I'll send more if/when
I have it, but this looks like all available now
Andy Tijerina's email is [email protected]
[That's my one-time-through proofing of the list. Good job for whomever did the big task.]
<side comment> I noticed LOTS of San Angelo people without email addresses or phone numbers. If
someone will mail me a current San Angelo phone directory, I'll look them up, call them on the weekend
when I have free cell time and see if I can elicit the needed info. Deal?
Surely hope that:
1. we won't lose the performance/reality comedy duo that means SO MUCH to keeping the FART in OLE
FART (Gail and Beth)
2. there is a vastly concerted effort to glean the e-mail addresses for all class members (writing paper letters
has become something that I do for ancient aunts, not my peers)
3. everyone comes away with a smile on their faces
Yours in fun, fond memories and fellowship,

J.C. Roach was killed in a car accident Friday night in Buchanan Dam, TX. He was about three
miles from his house. He lost control of his vehicle trying to miss a deer. I went to his funeral in
Buchanan Dam yesterday. Something I didn't know, J.C. was awarded the Bronze Star for
bravery in Viet Nam. He crossed a minefield three times to bring back fellow wounded Green
Berets. He had two children and had just recently remarried.

First of all, sincere thanks to whoever is keeping this site up. I personally really appreciate your
work.
I read today in the online edition of the Standard Times about the death of Bill Paschal's mother.
In the obit it said she was preceded in death by Bill. Does anyone know anything about this?
Just curious...

Hello Classmates
The 40th class reunion was so exciting and fun, we decided to have a mini-reunion in Houston
at Don and Sherry Burns on November 7-9. For those of you who missed the 40th, this
is your chance to see some of your classmates.
Please contact Don and Sherry at [email protected] or 281/494-1582 (home) or me (by
return E-mail or 432/683-8224) if you will be attending. The agenda has not been decided
upon as of today, but I can assure you it will be a fun weekend!!!!!
This notice is being sent to those who indicated they would be interested in attending the
"mini" reunion - except for a few I decided to send this notice to that did not attend the reunion!
Some of our classmates did not include their E-mail address so please pass on this
information. I only sending this notice to a few of our classmates in San Angelo, so please
spread the word at the monthly meeting.
The accommodations will be at the Comfort Suites in Stafford, Texas (just 5 or 10 minutes from
Don).
Here is the information!
COMFORT SUITE

Well, once again you have done yourselves proud!!! I want to thank all of you for making our 40th
reunion not only possible, but making it a most memorable event. Somehow, a simple 'thank
you' just doesn't seem enough for all that you have done, and continue to do. Without all of your
efforts there would not be a Class of '63 reunion.
Hope to see you all at Logan's in August!
