Geographical conditions are not always ideal;
it is up to the technology to adapt!
The M2 Metro line in Lausanne has 14
stations, on a track including inclinations of up
to 12%. The operator asked Faiveley Transport
to design and install platform doors able to
operate under the various slope requirements
and to match the movement of the train
doors.
Aesthetics are important, too: the platform
screen doors had to integrate cleanly within the
differing architectural styles of the stations.
Faiveley Transport demonstrated that its
screw/nut technology allowed the doors to
operate as per the stringent requirements set
by the operator (synchronization of the panels,
opening & closing times…) even on the steepest
platforms. And, working with the architect,
also designed structures incorporating glazed
canopies spanning the track to encase the
train from the platform area.
The strict targets of technical performance,
design, reliability, comfort & economy
were all achieved, as well as new levels of
acoustic comfort, transforming the travellers’
experience.

Every country has particular needs: in China
the scale is large and when a decision is taken,
things have to move very fast.
The Chen Du main line railway stations, national
high speed train railway stations, decided to fit
platform doors. The first phase of the project
has 8 stations, including both ground level and
elevated stations. The longest platform is 500
metres installed with Automatic Platform Gate
façades, the largest station with 4 platforms
totals 2km of APG façade.
Faiveley Transport engineers played an active
part at every stage: from preparation work with
the designers finalising technical specification
to adapting new features specific to the high
speed railway station project. This project is
among the first in the world to install platform
doors in a high speed railway station. The new
features, such as withstanding the high speed
train wind loading, innovative layout designs
to cater for different train configurations, new
civil interfaces for different types of stations
(ground and elevated stations), new system
control features to meet the railway operation
requirements, etc..
Faiveley Transport’s unrivalled experience
inspired confidence, allowing new ideas to be
accepted rapidly and their reactivity at each
stage, including detailed design, production,
supply chain, quality & logistics, meant that
every deadline was met.
The completion time from design to line in
revenue service was very short. 8 stations have
now been completed on time for this line.

Few deadlines are as important as
the 29th Olympic Games opening
ceremony, on 8th-Aug-2008. Both
China central government and
Beijing municipal government
saw it as the landmark in modern
Chinese history. All projects
serving the Olympic Games are
vital political events.
Beijing Metro Line 10 has 22
stations with 47 platforms, called
the Olympic Games Line and links
the Olympic Games Village for the
epoch-making event. Beijing Metro
deployed the PSD system to protect
the avalanche of passengers
during the games, so installation,
testing and commissioning before
June 2008 was essential.
Each station having its own
architecture, the civil interfaces
were very complex. Faiveley
Transport teams strained every
nerve to cater to Beijing Metro
and local government desires.

revenue operation on 8-8-2008
and served successfully during
the whole 29th Olympic Games.
It triumphed and ensured safety
for 10 million passengers during
the international events. After
two years in operation, Faiveley

Protection from the weather takes special
importance where temperatures reach
-40° C.
Faiveley Transport was asked to install
Platform Doors in Helsinki, capable of
withstanding extreme operating conditions.
Based
on
standard,
service-proven
assemblies, Faiveley Transport designed
specific adaptations: special guidance system,
grease, heating devices…
The design, testing, qualification and
installation had to be completed within strict
time limits, before the climate added further
complications. Ready for operation on time
before our first winter in Helsinki, passengers
can now appreciate the comfort and operators
the reliability & economies.

Faiveley Transport are renowned for producing
Platform Doors that can operate in extremely
cold climate conditions (-40°C). So when the
Road and Transport Authority of Dubai decided
to build an above ground tramway system
able to operate in extreme conditions and
temperatures (+55°C ambient temperature, up
to +85°C on exposed metal surfaces), Faiveley
Transport designed Platform Doors able to
comply with both the climatic conditions and
the stringent energy saving regulations in
Dubai.
The world’s first Platform Door system
equipped with high performance solar glass
and double glazing, was designed, built, tested
& shown to have the required reliability to
operate safely within the parameters despite
their heavy weight and the harsh climatic
conditions.
Whatever the operating conditions, from – 40°
to + 55°C, Faiveley Transport PD&G increase
passengers’ comfort and offer real economies
in energy.
