Compact HVAC air distribution: supply air ducting, return air ducting, exhaust air ducting, ceiling panels… pressure protection for high speed trains Air intake & outlet openings equipped with automatic pressure-wave valves prevent sudden pressure changes in the train when trains cross each other or enter tunnels. why waste energy? flat roof design heat recovery systems why waste SPACE? Ultra compact design with no distributed components gives huge savings in space & mass - to achieve maximum passenger load. Easier installation & maintenance allows greater optimisation of running costs. A fully proven system at delivery status simplifies commissioning. Service-proven in Asia, Russia, France, Hungary, Netherlands… External fresh air is pre-heated or pre-cooled by exhaust air. Using this “waste” energy gives reductions of 20 – 35% in heating and cooling modes. First applied in FLIRT Helsinki in 2008. environmentally friendly heat pump systems Reversing the flow on the air conditioning units creates considerable savings in energy from 25 to 45%! Environment-friendly, extra fail-safe, producing less CO2 and saving costs, these service-proven systems were first installed in the Netherlands NS in 2006. Green HVAC technologies not only use ozonefriendly refrigerants, but also reduce energy consumption and help reduce CO2 emissions. Constantly monitoring the cooling system for leakages, detecting maintenance needs before customer comfort is compromised, Green HVAC increases reliability & economy, with less risk of pollution. Greater comfort for passengers & staff, optimised running costs, while protecting our environment, Green HVAC is the ecological choice! fresh air optimisation systems Conditioned fresh air is supplied depending on the real number of passengers on board, thus reducing energy bills by 20 – 40% in both heating and cooling modes. Swiss Federal Railway SBB were the first to benefit in 2003. FLIRT NSB, Norway In July 2009 the Faiveley Transport HVAC centre at Leipzig received a purchasing order from Stadler Bussnang, Switzerland for the development, manufacture and commissioning of air conditioning units for 50 x 5-part trains to be delivered within 2010 – 2012. Specific requirements included the extreme climatic and environmental conditions in Norway, plus energy economies, all using environmental friendly technologies. Zefiro, China SFRT was awarded a contract by the joint venture between Bombardier and CSR Sifang Locomotive and Rolling Stock Ltd for 80 trains in 2009. Specific requirements included the very high speed operation, an ultra compact outline dimension and limited weight, plus an intelligent control system monitoring and controlling HVAC system, with communication to MVB train network. With strong support from Faiveley Transport Leipzig, the center of competence for HVAC in Faiveley Transport Group, SFRT designed and developed the full system: • applying an optimized pressure protection system with faster response to match the car speed, • air tight design for the housing of HVAC units, • very compact HVAC unit, with exhauster integrated. Delivered according to the project schedule, in full compliance with BT/ BST Technical Specifications and China Railway standards, the system also uses separate air outlets for heating and cooling, giving perfect temperature distribution inside the car for optimised passenger comfort. Mr. Yongkang YU Sales Manager, SFRT, China Faiveley Transport integrated a heat pump system and heat recovery into the air conditioning units and added fresh air optimization providing exactly the quantity required for the number of passengers in the saloons. As well as significant reductions in energy consumption, the extra reliability & comfort levels have seen an option for a further 100 trains to be operated in the Oslo area and for medium-length routes throughout the whole of Southern Norway. Ralf Walter Predesigner, Faiveley Transport Leipzig, Germany Metro Mos cow, Russia Space and mass are a priority concern, especially in Metro transport situations. Ever attentive to future market needs and trends, Faiveley Transport had been developing a flat unit design with Metrowagonmash for the S760/761. At the same time the Supreme Municipality of Moscow took the decision to refurbish its entire metro fleet, including modern air conditioning systems for both driver’s cabs and passenger saloons in several thousand vehicles, none of which were originally designed to include air conditioning. Faiveley Transport flat units at only 250mm have found their place. The professionalism, innovative approaches, delivery dependability and the high reliability of the air conditioning units even under severe conditions formed a solid basis for the contract (placed in 2011 which covers the serial manufacture of about 1,000 units). United Kingdom Netherlands Although not the first choice for the DB AG tender in 2008 for Siemens High Speed Trains BR 407, Faiveley Transport was asked in February 2010 to design & develop sophisticated air conditioning units to the high standards of the high speed traffic (up to 320 km/h) only 8 months before the planned inspection date. Faiveley Transport Leipzig designed units for drivers’ cabins & passenger compartments with specific pressure protection systems to ensure high comfort levels even during tunnel transitions or when crossing other high speed trains. After successful trials and testing in the climate chamber RTA Vienna, the functioning of the unit was guaranteed at external temperatures above 50°C. The total commitment of the team was such that from contract award in March the results achieved could be presented to our client Siemens as well as to the end customer DB AG at the First Article Inspection (FAI) on 01 November 2010. The inspection was successfully passed on 05 November, so that the first serial delivery could be carried out on 08 November 2010.
