July 2014 Chamber News Wood, Wine, and Blues Membership Sightings Coffees, Ribbon Cuttings, and Ground Breaking Membership Spotlight Pizza Ranch Facts and Figures from SLU “Our Treasured Freedom” was the theme of this years 36th Star Spangled Spectacular! Chamber News Wood, Wine, and Blues Wood, Wine, and Blues will take place August 15-17 at Sunrise and Awaysis Park. This event includes a three day chainsaw carving contest with five professional chainsaw carvers. Curtis Ingvoldstad of Minnesota and Dave Parsons of Wisconsin are returning to Storm Lake, and Tom Zimmer of Oklahoma, Jesse Beeson of Tennessee, and Josh Holland of Iowa will be new to the contest. Nine Wineries will be at Awaysis Park (Great Lawn) with samples of their wines and bottles of wine will be available for purchase. Three Breweries will be providing samples of their beers. Various crafters and artists will have displays on the Great Lawn with Aloette, Scentsy, Thirty One, Tastefully Simple and Usborne Books and More are just a few of the vendors who are participating. Saturday night there will be a free concert on the Great Lawn featuring the Rude Band. Guests are encouraged to bring their own beverages, snacks, lawn chairs, and whatever else they need to enjoy the concert! The Star Spangled Spectacular was a smashing success! The Big Parade featured 125 entries with a record attendance. Fun filled events such as the kiddie parade, cardboard boat races, classic car show, and the live music in the park were enjoyed by all. A wonderful fireworks display over the lakes wrapped up a fantastic celebration of “Our Treasured Freedom”! Pizza Ranch This month’s membership spotlight features the Pizza Ranch. The restaurant is located at 517 West Milwaukee Avenue with Missy McCormick as the General Manager and Drew Dillon as the Assistant General Manager. Their menu features starting appetizers, pizza, chicken, and desserts, and gluten-free options. The restaurant features a drive-thru and delivery within a seven minute area. The owners are Andy and Rusty Kosky, Becka Coon, Tim Radke, Leonard Rettinger, Jim, John and Bob Bauer. This Pizza Ranch is one of their larger restaurants with seating for two hundred. The dining area seats 134 and the community room seats 66. This community room will be available to reserve after September 1st for family gatherings, birthday parties, Christmas parties, etc. with no charge. Also, beginning in September, they will be offering a catering service. Missy commented that they are also testing for an “All Day Buffet” on Saturdays and Sundays! Their usual hours for the buffet are 11:00 – 1:30 and 5:00 - 8:00. The restaurant is open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. Here are some interesting figures - the first day they served 935 buffets and made 443 pizza’s. During the first week of opening, they served 7,021 buffets and made 2,646 pizza’s! Missy commented that this is an awesome asset to the Storm Lake area. We would agree!
