President’s Report
Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends,
Save the Date
Coach to be Honored
35 Years at E. D. White Catholic
If you have ever played under the coaching
of Preston LeJeune, we invite you to relive
those memories by joining in a memorable
celebration that will be free and open to the
public.
On Friday, September 20 at 5:30 P.M., a
presentation and reception will be held
honoring Preston LeJeune with the naming of
the new school gym in the Dr. Richard Morvant,
Sr. Complex of Champions.
Preston began his career at E. D. White in the
spring of 1978 as the defensive coordinator
of the football team. During the summer of
1978 he was promoted to football’s head
coach. During a twenty-three year career as
the Cardinals’ head coach, Preston had an
overall record of 181-82-1 which equates to
a 68.8% winning record. During that time he
coached four undefeated teams, 1982, 1984,
1990 and 1992. His teams won some type of
championship seventeen out of the twenty-three
years. Of those championships, eleven were
district championships. His teams advanced to
the state playoffs twenty out of twenty-three
years. He was named District Coach of the
Year nine times.
Coach LeJeune also coached the boys golf team
to eight consecutive regional championships
and the boys tennis teams to two regional
championships. As an assistant baseball coach,
two teams reached the state finals, and one was
defeated in the semi-finals.
Under Preston’s direction, the Cardinal
athletic teams have won twenty-eight state
championships in nine different sports.
For more information on the ceremony, please
contact the Advancement Office at (985) 4491859.
We have literally just closed the books on the
2012-2013 school year and from every aspect it
was a great success. The highlights of the year
are listed in this publication. No publication can
accurately relate the sense of community, pride,
and spirituality that is present at E. D. White
Catholic. The class of 2013 displayed leadership
throughout the year and left their imprint on our
school’s 158-year history. We wish them all the best as they move on
to new chapters in their lives and pray that God watches over them.
We also said goodbye to six members of the staff, Mrs. Ruth
Thibodaux, Mrs. Michelle Robichaux, Mr. John Robichaux, Mrs.
Kristen Robichaux, Mrs. Regina Hebert, and Br. Francis David. Br.
Francis has assumed the role of president at St. Stanislaus in Bay St.
Louis, Mississippi. We wish them well and know that they will always
be Cardinals at heart.
The conclusion of the 2013 school year also marked the completion
of all major construction associated with Challenge 21. In 1998, a
list of facility needs to prepare the school for the 21st century was
compiled. For the past fifteen years we have addressed them with
generous donations made to two capital campaigns, annual fund drives,
and with other school funds. The cost was almost $10,000,000 while
donations have totaled almost $9,000,000. For that reason, the annual
fund drive for the 2013-2014 school year and beyond will focus on
retiring the school’s $1.2 million debt. These improvements were much
needed and will serve E. D. White Catholic students for many years.
It is important to retire the debt and save the school over $50,000 in
interest payments per year.
As we turn our attention to the 2013-2014 school year, we welcome
over 180 new students to our school. Our enrollment has risen to 775
students, an increase of over 50 students in the past two years. With
your continued prayers and under the guidance of our principal, Mrs.
Michelle Chiasson, and our dedicated staff, I am sure that the upcoming
school year will continue to build on the traditions of excellence
begun years ago by the Sisters of Mount Carmel and the Brothers of
the Sacred Heart.
Yours in Christ
David Boudreaux ’74, President
2012-2013

Cardinal Music
by Tim Robichaux, Cardinal Music Director
The Cardinal Music program had an outstanding year last
year.
In 2012, the Cardinal Vanguard presented a marching show
titled “Canvas.” The theme of the show was to present a
blank canvas to the audience, and throughout the show fill the
canvas with the color of sound. The exciting aspect of the
show was that the music was original music composed by a
2010 E. D. White alum, Ben Robichaux. The Cardinal Vanguard was named Reserve Grand Champion at
the Vandebilt festival and Grand Champion at the Destrehan festival. The highlight of the year was at the
Northwestern festival in Nachitoches, Louisiana. The Cardinal Vanguard was named Grand Champion at
the festival, which included over 25 bands from Louisiana and Texas.
The band had 25 students who were selected for the District Honor Band. Four of those students, Alyssa
Cruse, Hannah LaFLeur, Joey Blake and Chelsea Thibodeaux were selected for the All-State Band.
Thibodaux College Mass and Gala
100 Years of Service
Last school year marked the 100th anniversary
of the opening of Thibodaux College and a
century of continuous service of the Brothers
in Thibodaux.
On January 11, 2013 approximately 200 guests
attended the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Gala
in the EDW Union. Brother Ray Hebert and
Rev. Charles Perkins were the Celebrants for
the school-wide Mass and then the gala was held
later in the evening.
The program included talks from Brother Paul
Montero S.C., Brother Xavier Werneth, S.C.,
Brother Ray Hebert, S.C., Brother Patrick
McGinity S.C., and Brother Ronald Hingle, S.C.,
a reflections video presentation from Thibodaux
College graduates on their days with the
Brothers, and a presentation of the Thibodaux
College banner donated by the Class of 1960.
The night ended with the Brothers gathered on
stage to sing “Animes de L’amour.”
The Indoor Percussion had another exciting year finishing in 2nd place at the Louisiana Circuit
Championships.
The Winterguard had an outstanding year and achieved two “firsts” in our history. They placed 3rd at a
WGI regional in Pensacola, Florida, and made it to the semi-finals placing 19th overall at the WGI World
Championships in Dayton, Ohio where they competed against 125 other groups.
The Concert Band earned a Sweepstakes trophy at the District Festival. The Symphonic Band earned a
Sweepstakes trophy at the district festival and then earned a Sweepstakes trophy at the State Festival with
a fine performance of “William Tell” overture.
Athletic Highlights
by Preston LeJeune, Athletic Director
E. D. White Catholic’s Athletic Department just completed another
excellent year of sports competition. Our fall sports season was a very
successful one. The boys and girls cross country teams each had a great
season, both teams winning district championships. For the girls it was
the 29th consecutive district championship and the boys team won its 15th
straight district championship. At the state meet in Natchitoches, both the
girls and boys team won state championships for the second year in a row.
This was the second time in school history that the boys and girls won state
championships in the same year. This was a tremendous accomplishment
for Coach Don Grabert, Coach Tommy Schexnayder and the team.
The boys and girls swim teams had another great year. At the state meet in Sulphur, the boys team finished
as the state runner-up. The difference between the state champion and state runner up came down to the
last race. The girls’ team finished fourth at the state swim meet.
The volleyball team won the district championship. This was the 14th district championship in the past
16 years, a truly outstanding accomplishment. The lady Cardinals received a bye in the first round of the
playoffs and hosted Dequincy in the regional round of the playoffs. Dequincy was quickly eliminated and
the team was off to the Pontchartrain Center for the state tournament for the 16th consecutive year. In the
quarterfinal round the girls defeated Brusly in three games. In the semifinals the ladies defeated Vandebilt
Catholic in four games. This advanced the team to the championship match for the eighth time in the past
12 years. This was a great match against Ursuline Academy of New Orleans. The lady Cardinals were
defeated in a thrilling five game match. This marked the 7th time that the Lady Cardinals finished state
runner-up.
The football team started off the season very strong, winning its first four games. In week one, the Cardinals
defeated Vandebilt. This was the only loss for Vandebilt in the regular season. The team qualified for the
playoffs and met Brusly in the bi-district round. The Cardinals were defeated in that game and ended the
season with a 6-5 record.
Pictured is Bro. Xavier Werneth, S. C. speaking
during the gala.
The winter sports season was equally successful. The girls basketball team had one of the most successful
seasons in the history of the school. The lady Cardinals won the district championship for the third time in
the last four years. The girls entered the playoffs and defeated Erath in the bi-district round and Caldwell
Enhancing Self-Esteem
Parish in the regional round. The Cardinals were defeated in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs by a
very good Baker team. The game went down to the last minute of play before Baker pulled it out. This
season marked the first time that a girl’s basketball team had reached the quarterfinal round since 1980.
Girls’ soccer had another good season. The lady cardinals finished as the district runner-up. They entered
the playoffs and won the bi-district match against Opelousas. The girls were eliminated in the regional
round by Neville High School of Monroe. The boys soccer team had another great season, The Cardinals
won the district Championship for the eighth straight year. The team entered the playoffs and received
a bye in the bi-district round. They then hosted Deridder and defeated the Dragons to advance to the
quarterfinal round. The Cardinals traveled to Beau Chene and were defeated 1-10 in the final minutes of
the match. The 2013 seniors have never been on a team that failed to win a district championship.
This year the boys bowling team had to travel to Houma to practice and play its matches. Guy Guidry
and Bro. Patrick McGinity did a good job with the team. One of the bowlers qualified for the regional
tournament held in Houma.
The spring sports captured several championships and the teams did a really good job. Boys golf had a
tremendous season, going undefeated in the regular season and winning the district championship. The
boys placed third at the regional tournament and fifth at the state tournament. The girls’ team had the best
season since we have been playing girls golf. The girls won the district championship and placed sixth
at the regional golf tournament.
The boys track team finished second at the district meet hosted by EDW. From the district meet, our
boys qualified in 13 events for the regional meet held at Jewel Sumner. The Cardinals finished fourth at
the regional meet. Two of our athletes qualified for the state meet held at LSU. The lady cardinals had
a tremendous season. They won the district meet held at EDW. They then won the regional meet hosted
by Jewl Sumnar. Several of our lady track athletes qualified for the state meet held at LSU. The teams
finished in the ninth place at the state meet. The 4X400 relay team won the state championship, edging
out Donaldsonville in a great race, setting a new school record.
iPads
First Year Complete
The iPad implementation completed its first school
year, with every student at E. D. White having an
iPad in hand for the 2012-2013 school year.
The three year project was made possible from
Annual Fund donations to pay for the infrastructure
necessary to support an iPad for every student.
The softball team ended the season with an 18-12 record. The team finished 3rd in the district but won
a bi-district championship by defeating Church Point. The lady Cardinals then came home and played
North Vermilion in the regional round of the playoffs with a trip to the state tournament on the line. The
ladies were defeated by North Vermilion. Our softball team did a great job, they play in probably the
toughest district in the state.
Baseball had another successful season finishing with a fifth straight district championship. The Cardinals
entered the playoffs and defeated Albany in the bi-district game, Jewel Sumner in the regional round and
North Vermilion in the quarter final round. The North Vermilion win qualified the team to go to the state
tournament held in Sulphur. In the semi-finals we met district foe Brusly and shut them out 4-0 advancing
to the state championship game. The Cardinals then played Parkview for the state championship. After
falling behind 9-0, the Cardinals rallied in the sixth and seventh innings to score five runs but fell short
of the championship by a score of 9-5. The team ended the season with a 28-5 record. This was a
tremendous accomplishment for Coach Shane Trosclair, Coach David Constant and the team.
The girls’ tennis team had another great season. The lady Cardinals finished with a 15-4 record in the
Bayou-River League, finishing as the league runner-up. The regional tournament was hosted by EDW at
Nicholls State University. The girls won the regional tournament and had all five entries qualify for the
state tournament in Monroe. The girls finished in third place at the state tournament. The boys tennis
team was equally successful. During the regular season the boys also finished with a 15-4 record and
were the Bayou-River League runner up. The Cardinals won the regional championship at the regional
tournament held at Nicholls. The team qualified five entries to the state tournament and finished third.
Last summer we undertook a major renovation project. We enlarged the football dressing room which will
be known as the David Autin Dressing Facility, built a boys basketball locker room, built girls basketball
and volleyball locker rooms and built a womens’ coaches office. In addition to these renovations the
boy’s weight room floor was repaired and the Cardinal Club helped purchase new equipment to provide a
weight room for girls athletics. Brand new lockers were built for each locker room and new desks were
placed in the coaches’ office.
We are presently installing artificial turf on the football field. The contractors are trying to have the field
ready for the first game of the season against Vandebilt on September 6. Once the turf is installed we
have some of the finest athletics facilities in the state. This was made possible by a donation from the
Broussard and Bernard families.
We are truly blessed to be able to work such a great group of student athletes, parents and supporters of
our school and athletic programs.

Richard and Christian Caillouet during their
performance of “Annie.” The E. D. White Catholic
Drama Club presented several performances
during the weekend of April 13-14, and then

the Cardinal Talent Show on April 25.

Teacher of the Year
All Souls Day Memorials
November has traditionally been the
month in which the Church remembers its
deceased members in a special way. This
November we plan to involve our entire
school community in special prayers of
remembrance for all of our deceased alumni,
parents, relatives, and friends.
To make our prayers more specific and
significant, we invite you to write the names
of your deceased relatives and friends on the
form below, detach it, and send it to us by
return mail.
At our school liturgy on November 1, we
will remember in thanksgiving all of our
alumni, family members, and friends who
are deceased. In addition, throughout the
month of November, our daily classroom
prayer with students will include these
intentions. Finally, we will place the names
returned to us on the altar in the Brothers’
chapel at their residence. The Brothers will
remember these people in their Masses and
prayers throughout the month of November.
We ask that you not send an offering. This
is our offering to you, the alumni, parents,
and friends of E. D. White Catholic High
School.
In your Masses and prayers, please remember
the following:

School Safety
Community Working Together
On June 5, E. D. White was the location of a mock
school shooting drill which included over 15 agencies
throughout Lafourche Parish, for a training exercise.
Student volunteers began their day at 8:00 A.M.
and were given tags to wear around their neck with
information that stated the condition they were
in. Members from the EDW Movie Club made
fake blood for those students whose card read
that they were wounded. The students were then
broken up into groups and separated to different
areas and classrooms throughout the campus.
The drill took approximately 4 hours and
involved agencies such as the Thibodaux Police
Department, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office,
and the Crisis Management Unit- a unit made up of
Lockport Police, Golden Meadow Police and Port
Fourchon Harbor Police, as well as the Lafourche
Parish Sheriff’s Office and Thibodaux Police.
Thibodaux Regional Medical Center was also
involved in the drill. Students with a card that
read injured were transported to the hospital by
ambulance and where taken care of by medical staff.
Supervisors of the drill evaluated response
times, decision making and the tactics used
after the training exercise was completed.

Opportunities for Giving
Annual Fund
The focus of the annual fund for the 2013-2014 school year is to reduce the school’s debt.
Gifts to Specific Programs
Donations to specific curricular or co-curricular areas, programs, or other designations provide a
more direct method of giving in the area of greatest interest to the donor. Your gift opportunities
include cash and specific gifts to departments or programs.
Memorial Gift
Gifts to the EDW Endowment Fund or the EDW Annual Fund can be given in memory of a friend
or loved one. Gifts may also be given in honor of an anniversary, birthday, graduation, or other
significant event.
Endowment Fund
Donations are on deposit with the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux and earn interest each year. The
interest income from these named endowment funds is used to subsidize the operating budget
each year and to provide financial aid to families who could not otherwise afford to give their
children a quality Catholic education. These dedicated, perpetual gifts help assure the continued
excellence and existence of EDW and its affordability for generations of young people to come.
Mount Carmel / Sacred Heart Educators Fund
The interest from this perpetual gift will eventually allow us to offer competitive salaries, and at
the same time, attract the next generation of educators who will keep alive the teaching traditions
of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and the Sisters of Mount Carmel.
Guardian Angel Student Aid Fund
Donations for tuition assistance will be placed in our Endowment Fund, and funds derived from
the interest will be used to help families in need of tuition assistance.
Planned Giving
Planned gifts can benefit EDW while helping you to save taxes, increase your income, and pass
more onto your heirs. Planned gifts are contributions by a donor through his or her estate. A
statement in the donor’s will or trust can direct the personal representative to give to EDW. Gifts
include appreciated securities, real estate, business interests, life insurance, personal property, and
retirement plans.
