TWENTIETH-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Good Lord,
This Sunday, September 20th, is the 20-Week Club
Dinner at the Best Western Hotel in Kingston beginning at 1:00
P.M. I want to thank all of the members of the parish’s 20-Week
Club Committee for everything that they do to make this very
important fun/fund raiser so very successful. A great deal of hard
work is done by the Committee members and other volunteers and
I deeply appreciate all that they do for all of us. I look forward to
the dinner and I hope to see you there.
The Advisory Committee for Parish Development held a
very successful Junk in the Trunk last Saturday, September 12 th. I
wish to extend my gratitude to the members of the Advisory who
worked on Junk in the Trunk. Our next Advisory Meeting is
Monday evening, September 28th, at 7:45 until 9:00 P.M. that
evening; you are most welcome to join us that night to help to plan
our future fun/fund raisers. The great thing about this latest Junk
in the Trunk is that we filled all fifty spaces available for sellers; it
is the most that we ever had in the four Junk in the Trunk events
that we have held at our Church parking lot.
Hats off to the ladies of the Altar Rosary Society of the
Parish; the recruitment drive last weekend was a big success. I
want to thank all of the Rosarians who worked on the recruitment
drive and I wish to express a warm welcome to the ladies of the
parish who have expressed an interest in wanting to become
Rosarians.
This past Monday, September 14th, featured the
beginning of the children’s Religious Education (Faith Formation)
Program. Also, we held our first Parish Council Meeting of the
new year on the same evening. I will let you know how well the
20-Week Club Dinner, Religious Education, and the Parish
Council did in next week’s letter.
Next weekend, September 26th and 27th, I will be giving
the Annual State of the Parish Address. I will offer a 30 second
homily and then give a twelve to fifteen minute report on the
spiritual and temporal states of our parish; the spiritual comes first
since it is more important than what comes secondarily: the
temporalities of the parish. The Finance Council of our parish will
meet in the Rectory this coming Tuesday, September 22 nd, at 3:30
P.M. to advise me as to how I will present the temporalities
portion of the State of the Parish Address. I am most grateful to
the members of the Finance Council for all that they do to assist
me in my responsibility to be a good steward of the property and
finances of our parish.
This coming Monday, September 21st, the Liturgy
Committee of the parish will meet in the Rectory at 6:30 P.M. You
are most welcome to come and participate in the planning of
upcoming spiritual events in our Church.
As of the writing of this letter, Monday, September 14 th,
at the noontime hour, our Religious Education Coordinator, Joan
Corton, was still listed as a patient at Kingston Hospital (now
known as the Broadway Campus of Health Alliance Hospitals). I
visited Joan back on Friday, September 11 th, from 7:30 until 8:00
P.M. The good news is that the surgeon seemed to remove the
entire mast on her intestines and one of her kidneys. However, it
will take at least a few weeks for her to recover fully from the
operation. Please continue to pray to God and the Blessed Mother
to give to her all the healing graces to recover to full health and
well-being. May she return to conducting the Religious Education
Program soon. The Opening Holy Mass that I will have been
happy to offer will have had the intention for Joan’s complete
recovery.
NEXT SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th, WILL BE THE
ALL-DAY ADORATION OF OUR DEAR LORD IN HOLY
COMMUNION IN THE CHURCH FROM THE CONCLUSION
OF THE 10:30 A.M. HOLY MASS UNTIL BENEDICTION
AND REPOSITION OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT
AT 8:30 P.M. Please note that a partial indulgence may be gained
by spending at least a few minutes praying in the Real Presence of
Our Lord in the exposed Blessed Sacrament and a plenary
indulgence may be gained, subject to the usual conditions, for
spending at least one half-hour doing the same pious practice. May
God bless you!
Sincerely, with prayers,
Father Bill Woodruff

JOKE- “Darn!” the man said to his friend while
weighing himself at the local drug store scale. “I
started on a new diet but the scale says I’m heavier
than I was before.” Turning to his friend, he said,
“Here, hold my jacket.” The scale still indicated that he had not
lost any weight. “OK,” he said to his friend. “Hold my
Twinkies.”
SEPTEMBER 20, 2015
Taking a child he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms
around it he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as
this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives
not me but the One who sent me.”
- Mk 9:36-37

me! One thing I have discovered about myself is that I never
brought God into my finances. This is a very important area for
me, and I am glad that now God is a part of it.”
PASTOR’S COMMENT– As St. Augustine said so neatly,
“Out of God’s gifts, then, we make gifts to God and from us He
receives what He first gave us.”

PRAYER FOR LIFE
Jesus, Mary and Joseph we love you very much.
Help us spiritually adopt and protect all human life
from preborn to natural death.
Amen.
MAKING ALL THINGS NEW
God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist,
You bring us together as Your Church in the
Archdiocese of New York.
Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our
actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese.
Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish
communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and
material gifts that sustain them.
Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to
the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

THE STUNT MAN
By Wayne Rice
In an interview, actor Kevin Bacon shared a conversation
he had with his six-year-old son after he had seen the movie
Footloose for the first time.
The boy said, "Dad, that was really cool how you
jumped up on the roof and swung from the rafters. How did you
do that?"
"Well, son, I didn't actually do that part," said Bacon. "A
stunt man did."
"What's a stunt man?" asked his son.
"That's someone who dresses like me and does things I
can't do. Things that are too dangerous."
"Oh. Well, what about that part in the movie where you
spin around on that gym bar and land on your feet," persisted the
boy. "How did you do that?"
"Well, son, that was the stunt man again, not me. He's
really good at gymnastics."
"Oh." A long pause. "Dad, just what DID you do in the
movie?"
Bacon sheepishly replied, "I got all the glory."
Jesus stood in for us so that we could have eternal life
and share in God's glory.
He was nailed to the cross in our place, to pay for our sins,
because he was the only one who could do it
and emerge victorious.
