Dear Friends,
The year 2005-2006 has been an exciting year for the Tampa General Hospital Foundation. On the heels of completing our first capital
campaign last year, the Foundation Board of Trustees voted to undertake a second campaign to completely redesign and expand the
hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The profits from our three signature fundraisers, Night at the Circus, Moments in Time Gala, and the golf tournament, continued to
exceed expectations and allowed the Foundation to provide over $600,000 toward various hospital programs, projects and services. The
Foundation was the beneficiary of two wonderful events sponsored by other organizations. Glitz & Sticks, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s
casino night fundraiser sponsored by Melitta USA, raised $60,000 for the renovation of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Lastly, Skanska
USA sponsored the First Annual Fishing Tournament which netted $40,000 for the Foundation’s Building on Excellence Campaign.
The Foundation secured grants in excess of $200,000. Among them, the USAA Foundation grant of $67,000 allowed us to send over
2,200 new mothers and babies home with an infant car seat, and The Joy McCann Foundation pledged $120,000 towards the Foundation’s
Nursing Scholarship Program.
During the year, the Foundation has funded a number of other projects and programs at the hospital. Some examples are equipment for
the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Rehabilitation Center, the Wheelchair Sports Program, Aeromed, educational programs and
conferences for hospital employees, and our innovative Nursing Scholarship Program.
Without our donors, none of this would have been possible. The following pages demonstrate the growing support of Tampa General
Hospital and the growth of the Foundation as a substantial source of funding. On behalf of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, I wish to thank
all of our donors for sharing their good intentions and generosity with Tampa General Hospital – a true crown jewel of this community.

2006 Special Events
Signature Events - A Great Way To Get Involved
Our signature events are a wonderful way to raise funds for the hospital. The
continuing community outreach and relationship building that result from
these events are as important as the funds raised. Each event adds new friends
and supporters and increases awareness of Tampa General’s programs and
services.
The TGH Foundation is proud to produce three signature events
each year to benefit the programs and services of the hospital.

Feld Entertainment’s Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey® Circus presented
the 15th Annual Night at the Circus at the St. Pete Times Forum on January 5,
2006. The event raised over $185,000 in net proceeds for the Children’s Medical
Center at TGH. The Don and Erika Wallace Family Foundation once again
served as our Big Top Sponsor, and the Tampa Bay Lightning was the Patrons’
Party Sponsor.
Christi Barli, in her first year as circus chair, brought incredible enthusiasm to
this family event and continued to help raise awareness of the Tampa General
Hospital Foundation throughout the community. The Night at the Circus is one
of the few fundraisers in town that is truly a family event, and it is not unusual to
see three generations enjoying the clowns together.

The 9th Annual “Moments in Time” Gala was a huge success. Guests celebrated
“How the West was Fun” at the Gold Rush Saloon. Held on May 12, 2006, the
Patrons’ Party took place at the University Club of Tampa with the Gala following
at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. Citigroup and Raymond James served as our
Title Sponsors.
The event surpassed the TGH Foundation’s goal by netting over $240,000 for
Tampa General Hospital’s Fund for the Future. This special fund helps the hospital
deliver exceptional care everyday. From purchasing the most advanced medical
equipment to providing continuing education for nursing, financial support of the
Gala helped enhance the outstanding level of care our community has come to
expect from Tampa General.
Our returning chair and Foundation Board member, McIver Berner, again pulled
out all the stops for this party and exercised her creativity and fun energy on this
event. She energized volunteers and organized a complex event that entertained
guests throughout the evening. She displayed her true love for Tampa General and
this unique party.

The 8th Annual Golf Tournament
In its 8th year, this exclusive event surpassed the TGH Foundation’s goal and
raised over $180,000 in net proceeds for Tampa General’s Fund for the Future. Held
on October 30, 2006 at Old Memorial Golf Club, 82 golfers enjoyed beautiful
weather and excellent course conditions.
Our Presenting Sponsor this year was the Baldwin Connelly Group and the Title
Sponsor was The Yerrid Foundation.
A portion of the proceeds from this year's tournament will benefit Tampa
General’s Fund for the Future. Additionally, a contribution was made to MORE
HEALTH, Inc., Tampa General’s innovative health education and injury
prevention program, providing a variety of health lessons to more than 175,000
students in Hillsborough County public and private schools.
The returning event co-chairs, Joe Taggart and Al Silva, provided exceptional
support to the planning committee. Their professional contributions were key to
the tournament’s success. Auctioneer extraordinaire, Gary Koch, increased the
profits from the tournament by encouraging the golfers to bid on an exciting array
of items.

The Tampa General Hospital Foundation’s 32nd Annual Dinner was held on
October 12, 2006 at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club and was sponsored for a
second year by CapTrust Financial Advisors. The Annual Dinner provides an
opportunity for Foundation leaders and donors to learn about the
accomplishments of the past year. Our guest speaker was Air Vice-Marshal
Mike Heath with the British Royal Air Force who shared both his experiences
in the Middle East and his testimony as a patient at Tampa General.
This year the James M. “Red” McEwen Award was presented to Larry C. Carey,
M.D. This award, named after a TGH Foundation founder, honors recipients
whose efforts, good works, and service have contributed most significantly to the
betterment of Tampa General Hospital. “He has served as a trusted advisor for the
Foundation’s Executive Directors’. His perspective as a member of the medical staff
has been invaluable,” said 2006-2007 Foundation Chairman Bryan Guyton.
The Madeleine P. Gibbons Humanitarian Award is presented to a hospital
volunteer who embodies the spirit, enthusiasm, and commitment of Mrs.
Gibbons, a charter member of the Auxiliary in 1952. This year’s award was
presented by Mrs. Gibbons’ son, Rev. Robert C. Gibbons and Auxiliary
President Cathy Phillips to José Martinez, a very enthusiastic TGH supporter.
José has contributed 3,000 hours of volunteer service to Tampa General.
He serves two days a week in dispatch and often fills in for absentees.

Thanks to the Tampa Bay Lightning, over 650 guests and members of the
Lightning organization came together in late September to kick off the season
and take part in Glitz and Sticks. In its fifth year, the casino night presented
by Melitta USA included a silent auction and gourmet dinner for those in
attendance. As players manned card tables and roulette wheels, the Lightning
Foundation auctioned unique items to help raise money for the renovation and
enhancement of TGH’s Children’s Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit. The unit’s co-medical directors, Dr. Rick Weibley and Dr. Dan Riggs,
were honored during the evening.

White Coat Mini-Internship Program
TGH’s White Coat Mini-Internship Program allows community and business
leaders to experience a major teaching hospital from an insider’s point of view.
Each intern is paired with a Tampa General physician for an entire day. Nothing
is prearranged or “sugar coated.” The intern accompanies the physician
everywhere – on rounds, in patient consultations, and even in the operating
room. Our goal is to give the interns a real day-in-the-life of a physician – the
intensity, the drama and the complexity. It is an opportunity to demonstrate the
expertise of our physicians and staff, but also their humanity.

The White Coat Program was held three times in 2006 with 43 interns
completing the program. Two hundred forty-five interns have completed the
program since its inception at the hospital in the spring of 2000. The value of this
program can be demonstrated by this quote from a participant. “It was a unique and
amazing experience. I wish more people in our society could experience something
like this, to see the teamwork and the compassion of these professionals.”
Nursing Scholarship Program
The Tampa General Hospital Foundation has a long history of recognizing
the critical role of nurses at TGH by supporting nursing education through the
commitment of funds for nurses working at the hospital so they may continue
their education. In 2003, the Foundation started its innovative Nursing
Scholarship Program.
The scholarship program is designed to give TGH employees an opportunity to
attend nursing school fulltime while working part-time. The Foundation
recognized as they developed this new program, a critical component of success
would be to support the students in the pursuit of their nursing degrees to give
them the greatest opportunity to achieve their goal. So, each nursing student is
assigned an RN in a leadership role at the hospital to serve as their mentor, both on
the job and with their schoolwork.
The first students were selected in 2003 and each year the recipients are honored
at the Foundation’s Annual Dinner. The first graduates received their degrees in
2005 and were recognized at a Board of Trustees meeting with flowers and a round
of applause. To date, 15 TGH employees have been recipients of the Tampa
General Hospital Foundation Nursing Scholarship Program.
