Cheryl Pearson Last week, Jonathan Thoresen was recognized for his service to TSRC and for his graduation from high school. Jonathan accompanies his mother Mary, our music director, on a regular basis, adding much to our music program by playing guitar, violin, and bongos. He does this on a volunteer basis, not as paid staff. Jonathan, who has been home schooled, will be attending Palm Beach Atlantic College in the fall. We wish him all the best! Inside the book are pages where parishioners have written their memories, blessings, and observations of significant events in the life of TSRC. Please look for and write in this book. All members of our parish are invited to participate in leaving a legacy for future congregants to read. Friendship Sunday is tomorrow. We’re looking for a full house and a great time of Christian fellowship. The Rocket 74 Page 4 of 10 May 22, 2010 THE HOPE OF JESUS CHILDREN'S HOME has been drilling a well for the past two days on the children's home site so we could ensure we have a sufficient supply of water for the entire project. IN THIS EXACT MOMENT, WE HIT WATER AT 190 FEET DEEP!!! PRAISE GOD!!! A short-term mission work team from Raleigh, NC has been working with us since Saturday. They've been helping us drill through about 160 feet of pure rock and they're covered in dirt and mud, but loving it!! Please join us in praising the Lord for his provision. ~ Mike and Kim Miller The Hope of Jesus Children's Home Financial support for Mike and Kim Miller can be donated at any time. Make checks to The Solid Rock Church and be sure to mark on the check that the donation is for Mike and Kim Miller in their missionary work. The Rocket 74 Page 5 of 10 May 22, 2010 There is still room for you if you would like to go on this trip: The Life & World of Jesus: A Study Tour of Israel Hosted by the Rev. Canon Paul & Robin Jagoe (Paul is the Pastor of St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Orlando Florida) Stay on the Sea of Galilee. Visit Jesus Childhood home of Nazareth and his ministry home of Capernaum. Tour the old city of Caesarea. Stand on Mt Carmel where Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal. Follow the Jordan down to the Dead Sea. Explore Qumran and Masada. Stay at Christ Church Jerusalem and discover the ancient city. Stand where Jesus stood. See where he carried out his life and ministry. We will trace the life of Jesus from Jerusalem to his home in Galilee, giving particular attention to the influence of Jewish thought and culture of the period on the origins of Christianity. Our goal is a better understanding of Jesus’ ministry, his place among the Jewish people, and the application of his teachings for today. “A trip to Israel is more that a vacation. It is a pilgrimage in the oldest sense of the word.” “It will change your life. It will be an investment in your faith that will reap benefits every time you open a Bible, listen to a sermon, turn on the news, or engage in a discussion on international relations.” “It is definitely worth your investment: time, money, energy.” Click this link for a PDF download with detailed trip information: The Life & World of Jesus: Shoresh Study Tours -- November 20 – December 2, 2010 -Hosted By: The Rev. Did you know that all these types of prayers can be found in the Bible? Confession (Psalm 51; Luke 18:10-24) Praise (1 Chronicles 29:10-13; Luke 1:46-55) Thanksgiving (Psalm 105:1-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Petition (Genesis 24:12-14; Acts 1:24-26) Intercession (Exodus 32:11-13; Philippians 1:9-11) Commitment (1 Kings 8:56-61; Acts 4:24-30) Forgiveness (Daniel 9:4-19; Acts 7:60) Confidence (Psalm 23; Luke 2:29-32) Benediction (Numbers 6:24-26; Jude 24) Now, here’s a little request from The Church Mouse: After using these forms of prayer this week, send me a little note on how they worked for you. Which type of prayer gave you the most blessing and comfort? Was one type of prayer easier to pray than another? Did any type of prayer leave you feeling closer to God? Was any type of prayer difficult for you? Email me at [email protected]. I’ll print the responses in next week’s Rocket. The Rocket 74 Page 7 of 10 May 22, 2010 Car Wash – May 29th Woo Hoo! He said that whoever gave the most would be able to pick out three hymns. After the offering plates were passed, the pastor glanced down and noticed that someone had placed a $1,000 bill in offering. He was so excited that he immediately shared his joy with his congregation and said he'd like to personally thank the person who placed the money in the plate. And there sat our Rosie all the way in the back shyly raising her hand. The pastor asked her to come to the front. Slowly she made her way to the pastor. He told her how wonderful it was that she gave so much and in thanksgiving asked her to pick out three hymns. Her eyes brightened as she looked over the congregation, pointed to the three most handsome men in the building and said, "I'll take him and him and him!" ‘TIL NEXT WEEK, The Rocket 74 Page 10 of 10 May 22, 2010
