Chapleau is naturally surrounded by freshwater.
So if you’re looking for an afternoon adventure,
why not paddle your way around the edge of town!
Launch your canoe or kayak at Peace Park and
meander on the Nebskwashi River through to
where it meets the Chapleau (Kebsquasheshing)
River near Mulligan’s Bay. Hang a left and you’ll
find your way to the public boat launch near the
Chapleau Civic Centre! Note: you might want a GPS
the first time you do this to get familiar with the
landmarks.
Chapleau est naturellement entouré d’eau
douce. Donc, si vous désirez aller à l’aventure,
pourquoi ne pas le faire en canot ou en kayak!
Mettez votre embarcation à l’eau au Parc de la
Paix et ramez sur la sinueuse rivière Nebskwashi

(Kebsquasheshing) près de la baie Mulligan.

to watch for the Northern Lights on clear nights.
For daily forecasts of Auroral activity, go to www.

are full of stars and at times the Milky Way is
even visible!

path of the Mississagi River. The thrill of the ride
combined with a million picture perfect scenes of
rivers and lakes… you can’t beat that. And take
some time to stop at Aubrey Falls, just trust me,
it’s worth it!

there, take some time to look at the Louis Hémon
showcases. It can be viewed all year (June to
August - by appointment only).

(3rd Weekend in February)
Chapleau Pike Ice Fishing Derby
(2nd Weekend in February)
Hosted annually by the Chapleau Rotary Club, the
Pike Ice Fishing Derby is one of the reasons for our
reputation as an ultimate fishing town. For regular

The Taste of the North Winter Carnival is a longstanding tradition that brings the community
together during the cold of winter. A full schedule of
events for all ages is planned including community
dinners, broomball tournaments, hockey, and ice
sculptures.

Chapleau Arts and Crafts Fall Fair
(3rd Weekend of October)
Chapleau is a town of many talents, and once a
year all the best talents attend the Arts and Crafts
Fall Fair to show off and sell their wares at the
Chapleau Recreation Centre at 4 Maple Street.

The CP Rail Holiday Train (December)
It’s a good show, a good time, and a good
cause. When the Holiday Train rolls through, the
community comes together with donations for local
food banks while CP Rail provides entertainment
with a boxcar for a stage!

The biggest day on our calendar is Canada Day,
and Chapleau goes all out to show our love of
country. There are activities for all ages and don’t
miss the fireworks that start at dusk!

a Hunters’ Ball to celebrate the end of the moose

Come out for hot chocolate and a chance to sit
on Santa’s lap! Each year, right downtown, Santa
shows up. The tree is lit and Chapleau Downtown
stays open a little longer so you can find the best
gifts available at your local retailer.

Skate with Santa
Chapleau Recreation Centre opens its doors to the
public throughout the winter months for skating.
Once a year, the night becomes even more special
as Santa laces up his skates and joins the crowd
for some good fun and exercise!

Directions: From Highway 101 East turn onto
Adams Lake Road. Access to Leblanc Lake is
about 2kms in on the left.
Directions: This beach is in the heart of our
community, beside the library and Anglican church.
Parking is available at 20 Pine Street West.
Shoals Provincial Park (40 mins from Chapleau)
The beach on Little Wawa Lake has been popular
with locals for many years.
Borden Lake (20 mins from Chapleau)
This public beach is a picturesque spot for a picnic
and a swim. The water is regularly tested by the
Sudbury District Health Unit to ensure its safety.
Directions: On Highway 101 West watch for signs
directing you to Shoals Provincial Park. The beach
is a 1.5km walk from the highway.
Directions: Heading East on Highway 101 towards
Timmins you will see a blue boat launch sign on
the right after Grout Bay but before Emerald Lake.
Follow the signs in and the beach will be on your
right.

It’s wildfire season,

Missinaibi is a 500 km long provincial park that
encompasses large lakes, scenic waterfalls and
outstanding whitewater. Campers from far and
wide come to enjoy the unparalleled fishing on
Missinaibi Lake, for Lake Trout, Walleye, and
Northern Pike. This large lake also has over 100
Aboriginal pictographs.

can affect fish and wildlife habitat along a shoreline and can be
very expensive to control.

between Wawa and Chapleau. A short walk with
interpretive signs leads you to the potholes which
were formed by glacial erosion.

This beautiful, peaceful northern park is located
on Highway 667 between Chapleau and Sultan,
Ontario. Wakami offers both campground
and backcountry camping. Visitors also enjoy
exceptional fishing, hiking, and a Historic Logging
Exhibit. Motorboats, canoes and kayaks are also
available for rent from the park store.

Ce beau parc paisible du Nord est situé sur la

the Chapleau Arctic Watershed Snowmobile Club
maintains the trail to Foleyet.
