Our camp team works year-round to maintain the best camp traditions and experiences, and we hire and train the best staff available to guide your children. Each of our staff undergoes a series of interviews, reference checks, and a complete background and criminal history check. Our Unit Directors are college students and graduates who are working professionals in the fields of education and child development. All camp staff are at least 18 years of age with prior experience working with children. We provide each staff member with a minimum of 24 hours of pre-camp training and ALL staff are certified in First Aid & CPR. All activities reflect the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. BRANDYWINE YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMP 2016 | 5 CAMP QUOOWANT ENTERING K - COMPLETING 11TH GRADE Held at the Hanby Outdoor Center located on Chestnut Street, at the intersection of Marsh & Darley Roads. Hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Campers may arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of camp. Before and After care is also available, 7-9 a.m. ; 4-6 p.m. Campers receive a free camp t-shirt the first week they attend. EXPLORERS CAMP [07210: GIRLS, 07211: BOYS] AGES: Entering K - 2nd grade Explorers Camp activities are centered around a weekly theme. Campers participate in a daily “POW-WOW” to find out about the day’s activities, learn camp songs and have fun with the entire Explorer group. Activities include morning swim lessons, afternoon free swim, cookouts on Thursdays and a special activity on Fridays. FEES: Full Member: $200 per week Program Member: $255 per week WEEK 4 - NO CAMP 7/4 Full Member: $180 Program Member: $212 ADVENTURERS CAMP VOYAGERS CAMP LEADERS IN TRAINING WEEK 4 - NO CAMP 7/4 Full Member: $196 Program Member: $228 EXTENDED DAY CARE [07214: GIRLS, 07215: BOYS] AGES: Entering 5th - 6th grade Voyager campers are given the opportunity to choose the activities they’d like to participate in each day. Campers are also encouraged to lead by example on how to be a model camper for younger campers. Campers participate daily in a morning swim lesson and afternoon free swim. Voyagers cook out on Wednesdays, and take off-site trips on Thursdays. FEES: Full Member: $245 Program Member: $285 [07212: GIRLS, 07213: BOYS] AGES: Entering 3rd - 4th grade Adventurers camp activities and POW-WOW are based around the week’s theme. Campers will live the theme all week. Activities include daily morning swim lessons and an afternoon free swim. Field trips are scheduled every Wednesday. Thursday is cookout day and a special activity is planned every Friday. Pioneer cookout is on Wednesday and they join the Voyager’s off-site trip on Thursday. SCHEDULE: Week 5- 6 (July 11-July 22) Week 7-8 (July 25-Aug 5) TIME: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. LOCATION: Hanby Outdoor Center FEE: $355 AM and PM care is a supervised, partially structured time which allows children to either relax and prepare for the day or wind down after a long day at camp. A variety of activities will be made available. Snack is provided. On rainy days, Before and After care will meet in the barn. Activities include: crafts, games and a cookout. ALL CAMP CELEBRATION WEEK 5 - JULY 13TH On this special day, all YMCA of Delaware Camps join together to participate in games, sing-offs, inflatable bounces and water slides! Come out and meet your children’s friends and families. The YMCA will provide light refreshments and entertainment. COLOR WAR WEEK WEEK 8 This is a fun camp tradition that has been going on for years. During color war week, we divide the entire camp into two teams. Red versus Blue. Throughout the whole week the camp will participate in fun competitions leading up to Friday’s final performances consisting of a song, dance, and skit. COLOR WARS PARENT NIGHT WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3 from 6:15-7:30 p.m. QUOOWANT TALENT SHOW FRIDAY, AUGUST 12TH from 1:45-3:30 p.m. VOYAGER & PIONEER NIGHT* AGES: Grades 5-9 FRIDAY, AUGUST 5TH from 7-10 p.m. Voyager and Pioneer campers registered for any session or site are welcome to join us for playing games, hiking in the woods, swimming and lots more fun after the sun goes down! Dinner will be served. BRANDYWINE YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMP 2016 | 7 CAMP KODA AGES 3-5 YEARS OLD Camp Koda will provide children with the opportunity to learn, laugh and leap for joy. Children will experience new friends and discover new ideas. Most sessions are held at the Brandywine YMCA, Monday - Friday from 9 a.m.-12 noon. Campers participate in arts and crafts, games, stories, music and fun activities that are age appropriate and centered on a theme. Campers will play the course when available. The academy does have equipment for campers to use, but if campers have golf equipment, they should bring it with them. Campers must dress in proper golf attire each day. Cookout will be on Friday. Cleats, mouthpiece and sneakers needed. Campers will have a play day versus other Y of Delaware Flag Football camps. Instruction takes place from 9 a.m.-12 noon. Campers participate in afternoon camp activities such as recreational swim, games and nature walks. Campers need lunch, water bottle, swimsuit, towel and sunscreen each day and have a cookout on Friday for lunch. In addition to regular Super Sitter training, campers will have hands-on child care experience and be trained and certified in Pediatric Infant/Child CPR and First Aid. A special one hour pool safety class is also included. YMCA ID card is awarded at the completion of this course. Campers need lunch, water bottle, swimsuit, towel and sunscreen each day and have a cookout on Friday. Quiver Farms will bring their farm animals to Camp Quoowant for a morning of animal interactions. Campers will need to bring lunch, water bottle, swimsuit, towel and sun screen daily. Instruction is from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Shin guards, cleats and sneakers needed. In the afternoon, campers participate in recreational swim, games, nature walks and cookout lunch on Friday. Campers will tour the Delaware Art Museum. Color Me Mine will visit camp and lead campers in ceramics and mosaics. We will also go to Painting with a Twist to create a painting masterpiece. Campers will bowl a game after their lesson to practice their skills. Campers participate in afternoon camp activities such as recreational swim, games and nature walks. Fitness staff will focus on the proper use of equipment in the Fitness Center. Campers will also receive two hours of classroom activities focusing on building self-esteem to help deal with emotional and social changes. Campers may earn a lanyard at the end of camp to continue their workouts independently in the Adult Fitness Center. REGISTRATION ACCESS TO CAMPERS The Brandywine YMCA policy allows each parent equal access to their children unless otherwise stated in a court order. SAFETY • Staff is trained in CPR, first aid, emergency procedures and child abuse prevention. • Ellis licensed lifeguards and trained swimming instructors are on duty during all free swims and swimming instruction. • Campers are tested to identify their individual swimming ability and receive a bracelet identifying their level. • Non-swimmers unable to recover to a standing position are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket during free swims. CAMP CODE OF CONDUCT We require that camp staff and campers treat each other in accordance with the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. POSITIVE GUIDANCE Counselors will encourage appropriate choices and make every effort to redirect inappropriate behavior. Parents will be called to work with the counselor and camper to achieve a positive outcome. Campers who repeatedly misbehave or put themselves or other camp participants in harm’s way may be dismissed from the camp program. BUS TRANSPORTATION WHAT TO BRING • Bus transportation is offered to campers attending camps at the Hanby Outdoor Center only. • There is no mid-day transportation for camps ending at 12 noon. • Extended care participants using the Y site can be transported to (am) or from (pm) the Hanby Outdoor Center. • Campers remaining on the bus at the end of route will return to the Brandywine Y, 3 Mt. SUNSCREEN • Please apply sunscreen to your camper before they arrive to camp. We supply ocean potion sunscreen for our campers at our sunscreen station. • Sunscreen station will be a part of your campers schedule after swim instruction and free swim. • Ocean Potion active ingredients: Homosalate 10.0%, Octisalate 5.0%, Avobenzone 2.0%, Octocrylene 2%. • Campers that are sensitive to the sun should wear hats, sleeved shirts and a swim shirt for the pool. BRANDYWINE YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMP 2016 | 17 GENERAL INFORMATION SWIMMING ILLNESS AND INJURY LUNCH Swimming is an integral part of the camp program for both health and safety reasons. • A swimsuit and towel is needed daily. • All full day campers, except Pioneers and specialty camps, participate in daily swim instruction. • All camps have free swim in the afternoon. • Please do not send your child to camp if he/she is not feeling well in the morning. • Parents are responsible for picking up their ill child immediately. • Camp staff will treat minor injuries (small cuts, scrapes, bumps, etc.) and log the incident in the health log. • Parents are notified immediately for illnesses or injuries that need further medical attention, any injuries involving the head, or any situation that requires the parent to observe. • Campers who require immediate medical attention are taken to AI duPont Hospital for Children. • Full day campers need a non-perishable lunch and beverage daily except on cookout days. The best lunch bag is a gallon zip lock bag with camper’s name. Lunches are refrigerated. • No lunch is required for 1/2 day camps. • A non-perishable snack (cookies, crackers, etc.) packed separately from their lunch is recommended for morning and/ or afternoon snacks. • Water bottles labeled with your child’s name should be brought everyday. • Freeze pops and refreshing frozen treats sold daily for $.50 to $1.00. LOST AND FOUND • All lost and found items are placed on shelves in the lost & found area. • Please encourage your child to check for lost items promptly. • Items are kept for only one week after the session ends and then donated to a local homeless shelter. INCLEMENT WEATHER– CAMP IS OPEN! • Wet weather makes it feel chilly at camp even when it’s warm. Campers should wear pants, sweatshirt, boots, raincoat. • In extreme weather conditions, campers may be transported to a local venue by bus or Y van. • Campers should bring their swimsuit and towel in case the weather clears. MEDICATION • Form at camp office must be completed by a parent before medication can be administered. • Medications need to be brought to the camp office by parent/guardian in the original container. Do not send with your camper. • Please DO NOT send more than a one week supply of medication at a time. • Parents should pick up leftover medication in a timely manner.
