A Note From The Presidents
EDGEMONT DISTRICT PTA JUNE 10, 2011 A Note From The Presidents It’s hard to believe that there are 2 weeks left until summer vacation begins. As our children leave Greenville and Seely Place on June 23rd for camp, vacation or just lazy days around the neighborhood; we reflect on the fun and successful year the PTA was able to provide to our children. Through the efforts of volunteers our children were able to put on the theatrical production of Peter Pan, enjoy Winter Warm-Up and participate in the Parent/Child book clubs. Our MultiCultural committee brought the world to our children and through Cultural Arts they learned about sign language while authors taught them the intricacies of writing and illustrating books. None of these programs could be provided without the financial support of the community and the overwhelming time and effort of all our volunteers; and for this we are truly grateful. So, a sincere thank you to all of you who volunteered and made generous donations. A special thank you to the outgoing members of the PTA Board for all the work they have done behind the scenes to help make it all happen.– Nancy Faust, Jennifer Wurtzburger and Deb Schenfeld. As sad as we are to see them go, we warmly welcome the new Board members – Norma Milio, Shari Turell, Erin Sulliven-Theisen and Elizabeth Vickery. We are also so excited and lucky to have Lauren Ricci-Warren taking over as Co-President for Kelly Ivanoski at Seely Place. And on a personal note, a heartfelt thank you to Kelly, for all she has done for our schools over the past two years - she will be missed. Have an awesome summer vacation. We look forward to working with you all again next year! See you at the Welcome Back BBQ & Carnival on Friday, September 9, 2011. I’m Kahlil D’Souza, a 10th grade EHS student and I am collecting school supplies for the children of St. Joseph’s home and Muktangan school in Mumbai, India. (www.muktanganedu.org) Muktangan provides basic education to under privileged children in the slums of Mumbai. I have taught classes at Muktangan and I’m looking forward to getting these supplies to the kids. Please donate new and gently used supplies (pens, pencils, color pencils, markers, erasers, sharpeners, crayons, pencil cases, note cards, flash cards and other teaching aids). There is a specially marked box at the main office for drop off till the last day of school. Thank you for your generosity. On another note, for my Eagle Scout Service project I created a nature trail at Seely school with the support of Troop 4 Scarsdale. We cleared the trail of garbage and debris and set up plaques with information about the plant life along the trail. We also laid down woodchips donated by Ramiro Tree Service and the Edgemont grounds department. The walk is quick and great for kids so please go check it out! The trail starts at the far end of the parking lot to the left of the school. Remember to stay on the trail and have fun! 14 EDGEMONT DISTRICT PTA ADVERTISEMENT 15 JUNE 10, 2011
