Head Teacher`s Welcome - Hipperholme Grammar School
Issue 4. Friday 26 September 2014 Head Teacher’s Welcome Dear Parents, Mr Williams is looking forward to seeing many of you at the Hipperholme Grammar School Open Evening this evening. Do take this opportunity to talk to him and other staff and look around our Senior School as part of your decision making process for your child. The children left very excited about their Water Polo Tournament this morning. There will be a full report in next week’s newsletter. Please remember to take note of our future diary dates and have a good weekend. Louise Reynolds and Sarah Weller Eleri’s Assembly Performance PTA Autumn Fashion Show Eleri Spencer played and ocarina in achievement assembly. She played ‘Kumbaya’ for us. Eleri has taught herself to play this unusual instrument and has been playing since she was 6 years old. Well done Eleri!! If your child would like to perform in an achievement assembly please let your child’s class teacher know. There will be eleven retailers coming along to our PTA Autumn Fashion Show on 16 October. We are so disappointed at the lack of response from parents and friends of the school. This does promise to be a very enjoyable evening. Tickets will continue to be for sale at the school office. Come on ladies!! Information about sponsoring the PTA Ball is being sent home today. Thank you. School Bags Clifford’s Visit to Abdullah’s House Please can I remind you that Joseph James School Outfitters has in stock the large blue school bag we have recommended. Thank you to those of you who have already purchased these, it has made a massive difference to our storage problems and they look extremely smart. Last weekend I went to Abdullah’s house. We didn’t have any plans so we just chilled out. Abdullah read his library book to me and he took me for a ride on his bike. Luckily I had my skateboard helmet with me. I had a nice relaxing time. If you would like to borrow Clifford the School Bear for a night, weekend or the half term holidays please ask at the office as Mrs Reynolds keeps his diary. The menu was: Roasted Pterodactyl (Chicken), BBQ Brontosaur's ribs (Pork ribs in BBQ sauce), Bone Bread (Homemade bread in the shape of bones), Roasted Foraged Vegetables and Oat Dinosaur Biscuit. The children had a great time (no cutlery was allowed) and the catering staff dressed up and decorated the service counters with large bones, foliage from the school grounds and small dinosaur skeletons. The next event is a Greek day on Wednesday October 8th. Morrisons Vouchers Please can we remind you that we are collecting Morrisons ‘Let’s Grow’ vouchers. These vouchers are available in store until the end of October and are traded in for cooking and gardening equipment to be used throughout school. The collection box is in the Library. Thank you. Form 5 Adventure Day Form 5 had an absolutely wonderful time at Ogden Adventure World last Friday! We started off with some rope games (only the girls could do it properly.) Then we had to run as far as we could up hill in one breath and we had to run down. Most people finished on the floor! After that we stood on some wooden planks and had a race. Mrs Weller had a team and Mr Parker had a team too, Mr Parker’s team won! Mrs Weller was really angry. Next we did some Low Ropes, our hands were covered in “sap” but it was actually water – thanks to instructors Neil and Will kicking the tree. After lunch we showed our Robin Hood-like skills at the amazing archery zone. Luckily everyone hit the target at least once. Last but certainly not least, we did everyone’s favourite activity Mountain Boarding! We had mountain boards, grass sledges and scooters. Everybody was slipping and sliding, it was such fun! At the end of the day everyone agreed it was one of the best school trips ever! By Aaryan Bajaj and Form 5 (Form 4 went on their adventure day this week—there will be a report from them next week.) Reminders Mornings Please make sure that children are in the playground by 8.55am to line up with their class to go into school. If your child comes in through the front door and misses registration they will be marked as late. Now that classes have settled back into the school routine and Nursery and Reception children are used to the school, parents are welcome to drop off the children after 8.30 in the playground under the supervision of the staff - there is no need to stay until the children go into school. Picking up Other Children For safety reasons we should not allow children to leave the school premises with anyone other than their usual parent/grandparent/carer, unless the school is in-formed by the child’s parents beforehand. If your child is going home with some-one else for tea, or with grandparents for a change or if there is an emergency at the last minute please inform the office or teacher as soon as you possible.
