After School Acivities! We have had a few parents come forward to help run these fun activities for the children. Thanks so much! The After School Activities will begin in mid October. Pumpkin-Dash Jogathon - We hope you will come run with us on Columbus Day if you are in town. It will be a fun family event! Grandparents and Special Friends Day - Thank you Lou Racicot and Michele Baggio for volunteering to help with this great day. PTA will be looking for Dunkin Donuts Box of Joe donations as well as granola bars (any variety). Dear Lillie B. Haynes, Flanders and Niantic Center families: The PTA’s of the three elementary schools will be hosting a “Pumpkin Dash Jog-aThon” (rain or shine) on Monday, October 12, 2015 (Columbus Day) from 2:00 to 4:00 at the East Lyme High School Track located at 30 Chesterfield Road in East Lyme. This will be a parent-run school fundraiser. Our hope is that it will be a fun afternoon of physical activity that teaches children what they can accomplish when they set a goal. Children will feel the pride of their accomplishments both because of their physical feat, and by knowing they are adding to their school’s enrichment programs in the process. Students will have the opportunity to set a personal goal of how many laps they want to walk or run. Students will then reach out to friends, family and neighbors for sponsorship with a flat pledge amount collected prior to the event. The funds raised will be collected at the event and will be used to further support your school’s enrichment programs. Students are encouraged to: Be Healthy Be Fit Be Helpful Be Committed Be Silly Students who are unable to raise funds may still come and jog with their classmates. A parent or guardian must accompany all participating students to the Jog-aThon. There will not be childcare provided and students cannot be left alone at the event. This event will not be a competition between the schools. Students from all three elementary schools will run together by grade in a scattered start format after the group warm-up. It will be a great opportunity to catch up with friends from all over town or to meet some new friends. Additionally, it will take place prior to the 4th grade mile run test planned for later in October. We need many volunteers to make this event successful. Please look out for our requests for assistance in the coming weeks. Your time can be spent cheering on the joggers, making a donation (bottled water, healthy snacks or various other supplies), handing out water, setting up, cleaning up, or helping to track laps. Students can show their school or town spirit by wearing their school’s colors or East Lyme colors. Students may also wear one of their town team’s jerseys. We look forward to seeing you for a fun family event to help make our schools the best they can be!
