Fun Activities Ahead! Eglin’s Integrated Learning Center (ILC) is planning a summer of fun activities and reading for children of all ages and teens. This year’s summer theme is “Read to the Rhythm” and features weekly story hours through July 31 on Tuesdays from 9 am-12 pm featuring music, crafts and activities with access to books for all ages. Story hours will be held in the multi-purpose room at Family Child Care, Bldg. 2579, the bubble building by Eglin Elementary. Register at the ILC located in Hangar 3, Bldg. 825 across from the Fitness Center. Phone 850-882-9308 or email [email protected]. The first 50 to sign up will receive a prize and additional weekly prizes will be awarded. Special events will also be scheduled throughout the summer including Saturday Family Movies on June 27, July 11 and 25; Beach Day at Postl Point on June 18; Aero Club Tour on July 2; Air Armament Museum Tour on July 15; and, an End-of-Summer Party at the Youth Center on July 31. Some events with limited space will require registration which will open two weeks prior to the event date. Family All American Night Friday, June 19 | 4:30-6 pm There’s something new at the club and it’s called Family Frenzy! Each month through September, Bayview will offer themed nights for friends and family featuring family-friendly buffet prices, some outdoor recreation and indoor fun including drawings for FSS gift cards, free club lunches and kids’ prizes. Club members will also be eligible to enter a drawing for a free family trip to a Disney theme park. Activities include a bouncy castle, a balloon car build, activity pages, and a parent/child balloon toss contest. Menu is BBQ Beef, BBQ Pork, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, and Apple Cobbler. Kids’ menu also offers Hot Dogs and Fries. Event is $3 for Eglin Bayview Club members and their immediate family ages 13 and older. Admission is $5 for all other club members and nonmembers ages 13 and older. All children ages 12 and under dine for free! Fishing Clinic 101 Saturday, June 20 | 9 am & 12 pm Professional instructor will teach basic techniques of fishing including baiting, casting, reeling, and fish identification. Basic shore fishing of the bay will be taught all in a fishing environment. Cost is $25 for ages 11 and up and a free shoreline fishing license is required to participate. Children ages 6-10 with parental supervision may also participate. Price includes all equipment and bait needed to complete the class. Call Outdoor Recreation to reserve a date. Class dates are subject to rescheduling due to weather. 850-882-5058 Transition Career Technical Training Track Tuesday-Wednesday, June 23-24 | 8 am-5 pm Transitioning military members will learn how to find career opportunities, define technical career goals and identify required credentials. Get Golf Ready August 4-17 | Apply by June 15 Island Lake Camp in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania is scheduled for Aug. 4-17. Air Force Active Duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve youth ages 8-13 are eligible to apply. Selection priority is given to youth of Wounded and Fallen Warriors, or youth with parents currently deployed. An application and essay are due by June 15. Résumé Development 101 Tuesday-Saturday, June 23-27 | Tuesday-Friday 5-6:30 pm & Saturday 1-2:30 pm The Eglin Golf Course presents "Get Golf Ready!" - an introductory golf program for ages 14 through adult. Whether you're a complete beginner, or just haven't played in some time, in just five days, we’ll give you the game of a lifetime. Golf Ready is a nationwide initiative by the USGA, PGA, PGA Tour, and LPGA to engage golfers and is taught by Eglin’s PGA Professional. The clinic consists of four lessons and one day of “on course” instruction. Cost is $99 per person. Registration opens one month prior to start date. If you need to borrow a camping package from ODR, cost is $50 for a 4-person tent and $60 for a 5-man tent. Package includes tent, sleeping bags, a cooler and lantern. Camping packages can be picked up one hour prior to sunset. A community grill is available until sundown for campers who bring their own food or snacks to prepare for the evening. Soloists, Duets, and Groups are invited to participate in “#VocalUpload”, part of a new annual search for “Air Force Entertainer of the Year”. Air Force Active Duty, Guard and Reserve compete by displaying their vocal talent through internet upload. Video performances may be submitted at MyAirForceLife.com from July 1 through August 15. Judging criteria includes technical excellence, showmanship, and treatment and interpretation of material. First Place winners in each category win $1,000. Sign up by June 27. 850-882-2949 Team Eglin Air Expeditionary Families Night Tuesday, July 21 | Info Fair & Activities 4 pm | Dinner 5:30 pm Team Eglin members and their families are invited to the Bayview Club for a free family event featuring an information fair and children's activities starting at 4 p.m. followed by a spaghetti dinner at 5:30 p.m. Family activity areas will feature make-and-take crafts, Lego building, robotic vehicles, and karaoke. There will also be live entertainment and the opportunity to have free family photos taken in a patriotic setting. The event is designed to foster fun and fellowship bringing together unit leadership and their military and civilian families who have a member soon to deploy, deployed, or recently returned from deployment. Unit leadership will mark their assigned tables and a prize will be awarded for the most creative marker or centerpiece. To attend, participants must register by Tuesday, July 14 via their Unit Commander, Civilian Leaders, First Sergeant or Key Spouse. Event is limited to 300 participants. Casual civilian attire is appropriate. New Orleans Satchmo SummerFest Saturday, August 1 Join Eglin ITT on a day trip to New Orleans to the 14th Annual Satchmo SummerFest! This premier American jazz festival is dedicated to the legacy and music of New Orleans’ native son, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong and showcases the people and heritage of the Big Easy. The festival is free and held on the historic grounds of the Louisiana State Museum’s Old U.S. Mint. Featuring over 40 musical performances by traditional and contemporary jazz and brass bands, including the legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band, SummerFest is also known for its “Red Bean Alley” operated by some of New Orleans finest restaurants.
