our Year 3 and 4 students will be
participating in their annual camp to
Lake Canobolas Scout Camp. They
will be camp cooking, canoeing
on Lake Canobolas, hiking on Mt
Canobolas, making kites and a wide
range of other fun activities. I look
forward to a great camp.
Mini-Relay For Life
Thank you to all of the students, staff
and parents who participated in our
Mini-Relay For Life on Wednesday
12th March. Such activities promote
awareness and raise much needed
funds for very important causes, in this
case Cancer research. A special thank
you to Miss Shurmer and Miss Hanigan
for organising the event.
Skoolbag
All Saints’ College now has our own
Skoolbag iPhone and Android App to
help us communicate more effectively
Play Store. Once it is on your phone you can receive alerts from the school about
things like excursions being late, sport being called off etc. You need to go to Setup
SCHOOL
and select the categories you wish to receive Alerts for. There is more information on
the Skoolbag website that I recommend you read.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN NEWS
Billy icing an oval biscuit
Last week we started the Jolly Phonics/THRASS Program. We
have identified many words starting with an ‘s’ and an ‘a’ sounds,
read the Jolly Phonics big book, listened to the Jolly Songs
and formed the ‘s’ and ‘a’ letters in our workbooks. We created
some spiders to go in a web and some apples on “Mr Brown’s
Magnificent Apple Tree”. In fact, this story has become a class
favourite, so yesterday the children enjoyed acting out their
very own hilarious version. We had a very animated Mr Brown,
five apples, a tree and some very hungry mice! The children
have been developing their fine motor skills when building with
construction toys, using tongs to pick up corks, playing with play
dough and using the computer mouse! On Friday we will mix yellow
and blue paint to make the colour green (midori in Japanese)
and practice our cutting skills while cutting out a diamond shape
to make a kite. We thank all our specialist teachers for their
interesting and stimulating lessons and we look forward to our
Teddy Bears Picnic next Friday!

Jesus said to Nicodemus and to us
‘For God so loved the world that he
gave his only Son, so that everyone
who believes in him may not perish
but may have eternal life.’ (John
3:16, NRSV)
I often remind my students and
church congregations that if there is
only one verse of scripture that they
commit to memory then this is it.
This is the great truth of our faith.
This is what sets Christianity apart
from all other faith systems - that
God sacrificed his own Son because we are
incapable of paying the price for our sins.
These words come at the end of a discussion
between Jesus and Nicodemus that we find
in chapter 3 of John’s gospel. Nicodemus
was a Jewish leader. Today we would call
him a moderate as he was concerned to
get to know Jesus and his teaching where
others were only concerned with getting rid
of the threat of Jesus. We hear Jesus telling
him that to enter the kingdom of heaven;
that is to be in relationship with God, that
we must be ‘born again’. Nicodemus takes
this quite literally and questions how a
person can re-enter their mother’s womb
to be physically born again. But Jesus is
not talking about the physical; he is talking
about the spiritual, about where our focus
and motivation are found. He makes it
clear that if we are to enter the kingdom
10 YEARS CRICKET
After a downpour of rain on Friday, it was pleasing to see the
weather cleared for our Saturday cricket game against St Pat’s
Blue on the Junior School oval. Our captain for the day, Mitch
Nelson, won the toss and chose to field in the first innings. ASC
put in a good performance in slippery conditions and managed
to contain the St Pat’s team to 84 runs, with 10 wickets taken.
Tom Siede was a reliable wicket-keeper and ASC had a good
all-round bowling game. The stand-out bowler on the day was
Hugo Goodlet who took 5/5, earning him player of the match.
St Pat’s started strongly in the field and the ASC wickets began
to fall quickly, a theme which continued throughout the match.
St Pat’s proved themselves to be a very strong fielding side,
with some quick and accurate bowling and excellent skills
around the ground. St Pat’s contained the usually strong ASC
batting line-up. Jonah Siede made a valiant last-ditch effort for
ASC scoring a solid 17 runs, but it was too late; ASC ended up
with 105 runs and 22 wickets taken. Well done to Mitch Nelson,
who, in his captaincy role demonstrated some good leadership
and an ability to adjust the field as required. Our game this week
is at Raglan, against St Pat’s White. Mrs Nicholls
then we must renew our focus and our
motivation and start again, this time
following God’s way and his will.
Jesus also gives us an iron clad
guarantee that all we need to do to
receive eternal life is to believe in
him. It doesn’t matter what we have
done. It doesn’t matter who we are. It
doesn’t matter where we have been.
If we believe in him then we have life
with him forever. Praise God!

12 YEARS CRICKET
The 12 Years team had a convincing victory against Scots on Saturday.
The victory was set up with some excellent batting from Jock Sutton,
Nick Anderson and Ben Cant who all made significant contributions
to allow our team to reach 4-202 off 25 overs. Our bowling was
also impressive and we managed to dismiss Scots for 64 runs. Our
wicket takers included Sam Rendall, Nick Anderson, Ben Cant, Jerry
Ovenden and Nick O’Neill. It was a fabulous effort from the boys and
the win provided us with enough competition points to make the final
of the competition, which is to be held over the next two Saturdays.

AN ALL SAINTS’ EXPO 2014
We would love to see you and your
friends at the All Saints’ College Open
Day and Expo to be held this Friday,
March 10 from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. A
very popular event in the College calendar, Open
Day 2014 will feature an expo-style information
presentation with key members of Junior School
and Senior School staff on hand throughout the
afternoon in the Kemmis Building to answer your
questions. The ever-popular personally guided
tours of the Junior and Senior campuses, as well
student performances and of course a sumptuous
afternoon tea will complete the picture. Current
families are most welcome to attend. Please
come along for the afternoon or even for a half
hour break in your busy day.

Equestrian team compete at Evans Crown Sports Day
A team of six All Saints’ equestrian riders consisting of Caitlyn
Shirlaw, Claudia and Adelaide Cunningham, Indiana Whitfeld,
Megan Redpath and Millicent Cupples represented the school
on Monday at Lithgow in the annual Evans Crown Sports Day.
The girls all did their school proud in competition and
sportsmanship in their varying age groups for a series of
hacking and sporting events that attracted 115 horses to
compete. The grand parade saw a very polished group of riders
present and all the parents there were extremely proud of the
way the school was represented by the girls.
Lots of ribbons came home with all the girls and Megan
Redpath was 10 years age champion on the day.
I am always so proud of the All Saints’ Equestrian Teams
camaraderie and friendship that is evident wherever they
compete and I was delighted to act as team manager on the day.
Thanks to all the parents for their efforts as well.

The road course is full enclosed and car free.

The course will be open for walking at 8:30am with Class 1 commencing at 9:00am.
Presentations will be made at the completion of each class with a mounted ‘lap of honour’.
At the completion of events, an Overall Champion and Reserve Champion will be awarded for each height.
To be eligible for Champion, the rider must have competed in all three classes for that particular height.
This event is open to primary and secondary students with all competitors competing as per the above
classes. All riders must have previously competed at the height at which they enter.
Each rider may compete in two consecutive jump heights (ie 45cm & 60cm, 75cm & 90cm etc.).
The Committee reserves the right to vet any horse from competition if it is deemed unfit or unable to
compete safely at any stage in any event.
ANY ILL TREATMENT OF HORSE/S OR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS STEWARDS OR JUDGES WILL
INCUR INSTANT ELIMINATION.
Please note: Classes 1, 6 and 11 are for Infants and Primary class riders only. Riders in Yrs 7-12 may enter
on a non-competitive basis only.
Due to time restraints, riders may enter only 1 horse.
Only those riders who are marshalled into the practice jump area may be in that area prior to commencing
their round.
Practice jumps may only be jumped with the red flag on the rider’s right and may only be a maximum of
10cm above the height that is about to be competed.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for conducting a thorough gear check of each horse/rider and must be
present at all times.
THE NOMINATED PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST SIGN INDEMNITY FORMS A & B AND AND RETURN THEM
TOGETHER WITH ENTRIES AND CHEQUES MADE PAYABLE TO ALL SAINTS’ COLLEGE.
Entry fees are non-refundable after the closing date unless a Doctor’s or Vet’s certificate for the rider or
horse respectively is presented.
