Their goal is to create fun and slightly naughty designs. They started with some T-shirts but hope to expand to different types of apparel and some home goods. Donald and Denis work closely with local printers and distributors to bring the highest quality product at affordable prices. GRAB Magazine recently had the chance to chat with designer Denis about their fun and sassy clothing line. MARK NAGEL: What does Silber Fuchs mean? DENIS KOHLER: It means Silver Fox in German. MN: My one year of German in high school did not catch that [laughs]. You and your husband started the company? How does that work, living and working together? DK: We have been together since we were like 19, fell in love, came out together, built a life and somehow 30plus years have passed. We are native New Yorkers and have lived in the Chelsea-Union area for the last 15 years. MN: Why did you start the company? DK: I am a graphic 6 GRAB Magazine July 26, 2016 designer and have been working for companies all my life and just wanted to try something on my own, I put it out there to see how it would do. I have been playing around with some designs for a possible T-shirt business. One day, we just said, let’s see what I have and a whole kind of story evolved with a bear and the fox came later. Friends always call me a silver fox and since I am first generation German, I looked into the translation for silver fox and we got Silber Fuchs. We went for it and a year-and-a-half ago, we launched. We started to take photos of ourselves and friends wearing the T-shirts and posted them on our website and on Facebook. It just grew from there and has taken off. I still 8 GRAB Magazine July 26, 2016 work a full-time job but my husband is devoting all his time to Silber Fuchs. MN: I think it would be so much fun to go to a relaxed place like Key West and walk around in your Tshirts and see the reactions you would get. I can just see someone going what the f*ck did I just see? DK: That’s what we are going for. MN: I find your T-shirts very sassy and funny. Are you baked or drinking when you come up with the ideas? DK: [Laughs] No, I am sober. MN: Typically, in fashion, you design for a season, so do you design for a season or does a new shirt come out when you have a new idea? DK: We have new designs come out in the spring and in the fall. Sometimes one shirt might pop up midsummer but just one shirt and sometimes around the holidays, the same thing. MN: Your designs are for everyone, MN: Let’s say you had a design idea today. Would it come out in the fall? DK: Yes, it would be out in the fall MN: I saw some of your shirts at CRAM and the one that cracked me up was the shirt with the word “ass” in a heart. They really work my giggle factor up. Does CRAM have all your items? DK: They have most of them, so you can go to CRAM or to our website at www.silberfuchsnyc.com but what size ranges do they come in? DK: Small to XXL. MN: What’s next for Silber Fuchs? DK: We are kind of going with the flow and experimenting here and there with new products. This side project has taken a life of its own and has become my husband’s fulltime job. We hope to explore different kinds of printing processes. We have ideas for home products like pillows, mugs and aprons. Our goal is to Fuchs the world! July 26, 2016 GRAB Magazine 9 GRAB THE RAINBOW BOOK Stories From Beneath the Rainbow By Jason Salerno SHORTS: Stories From Beneath the Rainbow is peppered with characters not usually written about in gay fiction. There is a dried up spinster, a Navajo dyke, a completely unfiltered twink, a Somali refugee who experiences his first same-sex kiss and a transgendered doctor. Every story looks at LGBTQ life from a different angle and perspective. Collectively, they are meant to show the humanity of the community and how, like heterosexuals, queer people struggle with self-esteem, fall in love, help others and fight to survive even the harshest of realities. It’s the latest work from Hans Hirschi, the author behind the gay fiction darlings, Willem of the Tafel and Living The Rainbow: A Gay Family Triptych. Hirschi is known in gay literary circles as “The Queen of Unconventional Happy Endings” which is why his latest project is raising eyebrows. In SHORTS: Stories From Beneath the Rainbow, several stories end not-sohappily. Hans Hirschi explains. Jason Salerno: For the first time, you’ve written several stories that end sadly. Why? Hans Hirschi: The format of the short story is different than a novel. In shorts, we merely get a glimpse at someone’s life for a bit, and then we leave them to their 'Fahrenheit' life. There is always the possibility that the next chapter in their story will be better. JS: Stories do remain, as a whole, very hopeful. HH: I’m an optimist. I do believe in a better future for humankind, although it seems naïve, especially after Pulse Nightclub. But if we don’t believe things can get better, why would we even care to get engaged and work for that future? Every now and then, there is some good news, like Italy’s decision to allow for civil unions. It’s slow, but it’s progress. JS: What does the community need to do to make sure we remain on the path to rainbow 10 GRAB Magazine July 26, 2016 equality? HH: I think we need to acknowledge a couple of things. First: we’re no better than the rest of society and second, the fight never stops. For every great victory there will be a backlash. We need to never give up, never stop working for our rights. Right now, our trans siblings are in the crossfire. Only together will we prevail. JS: One story in the book, “The Loner”, paints a sad picture on how the gay community views middle-aged gay men. Do you think the community needs to get over its Peter Pan syndrome? HH: Wouldn’t that be nice? We love youth and superficial beauty. I don’t see that changing any time soon. I’m really glad that I no longer have to do the whole dating thing. As a married man with a son, I can focus on what really matters: the inner values of people. I don’t have HH: People always say that a good author can write about any kind of character. I decided early on to try and branch out, and capture more of the rainbow. I wrote two stories: one about a Navajo mother and another about a public servant. They are two very different characters and two very different stories. I’ll let the ladies decide if I got it right. ‘Getting Married’ to fret over rejection because I’m not the perfect male with sculpted abs and a defined six-pack. There’s so much more to life. JS: And the trans experience? HH: There has been so much talk about what it means to be trans lately. So many of my friends, gay and straight, don’t understand what it means to be trans, and that trans isn’t just an orientation or condition. Being trans means so many things. “Alex” is an attempt at showing that trans persons can live full and happy lives. Most of the trans stories I’ve read end rather glumly. They deserve more happy endings, as we all do. JS: What do you hope readers get from the book? JS: When did you write “Getting HH: I hope they get an interesting Married”? How does it reflect on look into the variety that is LGBTQ your own marriage? HH: I once got engaged to a life. We’re more than stereotypes, woman with a daughter. It was and we are as deeply flawed as shortly before I came out. I realize anyone. I’m not trying to preach, but merely show a kaleidoscope of now it was a completely crazy attempt at creating an instant family Author Hans Hirschi (middle) with and never husband Alex and son Sascha having to prove anything again. “Getting Married” is a very short glimpse into the brutality of that situation; the suffering the groom is going through and the loveless marriage that awaits the poor bride. JS: This is the first time you write about the lesbian experience. How did that come about? 12 GRAB Magazine July 26, 2016 'Sandra's Grandma' different scenes of people’s lives, and I hope readers enjoy it. If I happen to help someone to see the community in a better light, all the better. SHORTS: Stories From Beneath the Rainbow by Hans M. Hirschi is available digitally and in softcover, on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble (Nook), Apple’s iBookstore, Smashwords, and at select local bookstores. OPINION MARK MY WORDS Donald Trump, Orlando and Nazi skin-heads By Mark Segal, Guest Columnist Like many of you in the LGBT community, I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from allies here and around the world after last month’s mass shooting in Orlando. But I also have many questions and am perplexed by what I’m seeing and hearing as some people attempt to explain or use this incident for their own purposes — or even to bash other communities in our name. Those mixed feeling are slowly building up to anger. On June 12, the day of the attack, my email was full of statements from religious organizations — even including the Vatican — as well as political figures and others condemning the violence against members of the LGBT community in Orlando. But one stuck out as insulting and hurtful; it should be no surprise it was from Donald Trump. He used the most tragic of times 18 GRAB Magazine to attack rather than calm an alarmed nation. In total, his statement was seven paragraphs. It seems few have noted what was missing from that statement. His words in part read, “President Obama disgracefully refused to even say the words ‘Radical Islam.’ For that reason alone, he should step down. If Hillary Clinton, after this attack, still cannot say the two words ‘Radical Islam,’ she should get out of this race for the presidency.” While Trump used those paragraphs to bash Obama and Clinton, he didn’t know how to say a few other words: “gay,” “lesbian” or “LGBT.” Nowhere in his statement did he mention the community that was most affected by the largest mass murder in American history. Mr. Trump, if you cannot say some comforting words to the LGBT citizens of this country at this time, then you are not fit to be president. Also of importance, most of the victims were Latinos. And of those Latino LGBT people who were the victims, how many of them would Trump deport? And would he deport their parents if they didn’t have a green card? Lose a child or get deported? Then there’s the issue of who and what Omar Mateen was. Was he a Muslim terrorist? Was he gay? Did he want to kill gays or was it Latinos? All those July 26, 2016 answers may eventually be known but here is what we know now: Whatever Mateen was, he committed a heinous crime and his religion is of no importance. We in the LGBT community cannot and will not allow anyone to use our community’s tragedy to bash an entire other community. We know discrimination because we suffer it every day. We also understand unfair immigration laws. Until recently, if LGBT people married someone from another country, that person might be refused entrance or citizenship in the United States. Our community will also recall clearly when people with HIV were forbidden to enter the United States. So please do not use the still-warm dead bodies in Orlando to suggest that we bar all Muslims from the United States. While Trump was raging about blocking Muslims from doing this again, did he even understand that the man who did this was an American citizen? His unilateral banning of Muslims would not have stopped a similar event; it might very well have created one. Barring Muslims would not have stopped this nor San Bernardino, nor Fort Hood, nor Columbine … In 1973, the Upstairs Lounge, a gay bar in New Orleans, was firebombed, killing 34 individuals. That attack came from a Christian. Should our community hate Christians? The answer is no. We and all communities should begin to look at all extremists — whether they are on the left or the right. When extremism and instability mix, an Orlando, a San Bernardino, a Fort Hood, a Columbine happen. Extremism is what is the real danger to this country, and unfortunately, extremists are homegrown. And Trump seems to have a very cozy relationship with them — especially the racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic Nazi skin-heads, whose hate messages he consistently retweets. Enough said. So, one bakery with his mom as a kid and to sunny Monday afternoon when the a now-closed Greek diner. In high bar was closed, I put on a cute outfit and began the two-and-a-half school, he explored the neighborhood with friends, mile walk up to Andersonville. discovering Svea, a Swedish diner Needless to say (if you’ve read that remains our favorite breakfast many of my columns), I got the job haunt. When asked to describe and so began trekking up to 22 GRAB Magazine July 26, 2016 Andersonville circa 2000, his response is “a little more hippy-ish but basically the same.” Most recently, the queers came to Andersonville and helped make the neighborhood their own. Even in the five years since I’ve been in Chicago, the number of gay bars in Andersonville has increased and the popularity of the neighborhood (which was already beloved for its quirky quaintness, lack of chain stores and restaurants and laidback vibe) seems to grow, as does the crowd at Midsommarfest each year. Over the last five years, I’ve come to adore Andersonville – from the martinis at Marty’s to pH’s lovely brand of improv theatre to the Andersonville Puppet Bike and more. I’d go so far as to say it’s one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city (and there are so, so many neighborhoods). And now, I’m excited to say, I get to call Andersonville home, at least for the next year. (Watch out Puppet Bike – I’m coming for you). Don’t get me wrong – Boystown is lovely. It also remains the “prime gayborhood” in my head if only because it has so many more options for bars and clubs and remains the more popular enclave, the most likely to be visited by outof-towners and the place you’ll most often find yourself when you’ve been dancing all night and suddenly realize it’s 5 a.m. When you think “gay Chicago” it’s nearly impossible not to envision the giant rainbow pylons that dot Halsted Street. I loved my time living in Boystown. I loved being able to satiate a restless feeling on a Tuesday night by taking a stroll down Halsted, and actually stopping somewhere “for just a drink” (instead of the ritual that “going out to Boystown” becomes once you’ve moved away). I loved walking to the market or the dentist or the train and finding rainbows everywhere I went. I loved the way the music from Pride and Market Days woke me up those summer mornings, the ground pulsing with bass. And while I wouldn’t quite say I’ve “settled down” in Andersonville, I understand what those gay men at a party years ago were talking about. Boystown is where you go to party, to be wild, to dance all night and sleep all day. Andersonville is where you go for breakfast before 3 p.m. because all the good breakfast places close; it’s where you sit on the sidewalk and enjoy a lovely dinner or in an open window sipping on a cocktail and watch the neighborhood pass by. In short – it’s a place where you can really live. And I plan to do a lot of living here in “the other gayborhood.” Anthony is a storyteller, casual social anthropologist and man-about-town. He recently moved to Chicago after graduating from the University of WisconsinMadison with a degree in Journalism and currently lives in Boystown. Q: When my lover died, I discovered that he owed $75,000 in charge card bills and $110,000 in unpaid hospital bills. Everything that he owned (the house and the bank accounts) was held in joint tenancy with myself. He also had several life insurance policies and IRA accounts which named his children as beneficiaries of these accounts. Do I have to sell the house to pay my lover’s bills? Do his children have to use the money from the life insurance and IRA accounts to pay their father’s bills? A: First, the law says that a person can’t transfer their property to defraud their creditors or get out of paying their bills. If, however, you and your lover owned the house and bank accounts in joint tenancy before the debts arose, then that property will pass to you as the surviving joint tenant owner without deduction for payment of your lover’s bills. Creditors of a deceased person may only go after property in the deceased person’s probate estate, which means property your lover owned in his name alone, and does not include joint tenancy property. Also benefits paid under a life insurance policy or IRA account with a named beneficiary is not considered part of someone’s probate estate and is not subject to the claims of creditors. Accordingly, the life insurance and IRA money would go to your lover’s children and would not have to be used to pay creditors. If you and your lover were married, my answer would change depending upon the nature of the debt. Illinois married spouses would be subject to several “Family statutes” 750 ILCS 65/5 and 750 ILCS 65/15 (also known as the Family Expense Act). They provide that spouses are not generally liable for one another’s debt. The statute states also that your wages, earnings and separate property are not liable for the separate debts of your spouse. However, 65/15 does hold both spouses jointly and separately liable for the “expenses of the family.” The law defines such “expenses” to include medical and funeral expenses, as well as many other services and goods that benefit the family. Therefore, any medical bills, including those from a hospital, doctor, clinic, laboratory, etc. would be chargeable upon your property if your spouse should die and the creditors look to you for payment. Q: My lover died last month and I haven’t been able to find his original will, although I do have a carbon copy. I know he named me as his beneficiary. I called my lover’s lawyer, hoping that he would 24 GRAB Magazine July 26, 2016 have the original will and the lawyer told me that he used to have the original will but before my lover died, he wrote the lawyer and told him to tear up the will. Now my lover’s family tells me that because the will was destroyed, my lover died without a will and they get everything. What are my legal rights? A: Even though your lover directed his lawyer (by letter) to tear up his will and throw it away, Illinois law does not consider that to be a valid revocation of his will. In order to revoke a will, the destruction of the will (tearing it up) must be done by the person who made the will or by another person in the presence of the person who made the will. The law requires a revocation of a will to be performed according to the requirements of the law. Because the will was physically destroyed in a manner contrary to Illinois law, the family members will lose and the surviving lover will prevail. The surviving lover can file in court a petition to probate the will using the carbon copy of the original will. Enrique Iglesias TRANSGENDER GRAB HOLLY Disarm the Police By Holly Maholm I am a member of the LGBT community, and considering the long, sad history of confrontations between LGBT folks and the police, I feel I must speak up. Now, seeing all that has happened recently involving police shootings, I want to make two specific proposals to reduce the carnage. (One today; the other next issue.) Why are we (and by “we” I mean black men) in so much danger today from police? Here is what I see: Young men are trained as policemen; then they are given a service weapon and sent out into the street to “enforce the law.” Now… police work is boring – 98% of the time - but there is that other 2% - which is a frenzy of fear, panic and life-or-death battle for survival. When that 2% comes upon him, that young officer finds that his judgment (and what little training he received) is drowned in a sea of testosterone, telling him “Kill the aggressor! Or you will die!” Though I am sure there are plenty of racist cops out there, I do not believe this is a problem attributable primarily to racism. When that young man (a cop) hits the 2%, he naturally reaches for his service weapon – which he is trained to carry on his hip 36 GRAB Magazine in a holster, easily available at an instant’s notice Well, more like 1.8 seconds, as the Tamir Rice killing showed us. Then, we see his service weapon is (usually) a 9mm semi-automatic holding 14 or 15 rounds. So if that officer is pushed to start firing, he has a huge number of bullets he can fire, and every one of them is lethal. Just one round can easily kill (see Tamir). That is way too much lethal firepower to put in the hands of an easilyexcitable young man hopped up on T. Here is my proposal: Police officers should be armed with a weapon which is “non-lethal,” and that weapon should be the “Go-To” weapon he turns to first when he hits the 2%. The first weapon he reaches for should NOT be one that is lethal, or that holds 15 rounds. (Now, I am not suggesting the officer should be sent out into the streets without his side arm – in our society, today, that would be madness. I AM suggesting that his side arm should not be the officer’s ONLY – or primary - weapon.) What is the value of a non-lethal Go-To weapon? Well, if the officer pulls the trigger (and then regrets his action), it is much more likely the citizen will not be killed. So unnecessary deaths are avoided. Next, we see all-to-many cases where a drunk guy with a knife starts advancing on a cop, and the cop reacts by firing several 9mm rounds, killing him. Well… that drunk didn’t need to die. A GoTo weapon with a high “shock value” would have stopped him without causing death. Right now, when a cop is confronted by an angry, threatening man, that officer can choose to use just his own strength and training to subdue that person (maybe using his nightstick), but that choice will often result in the two of them wrestling on the ground. At this point, the officer will rightly become July 26, 2016 fearful that the man will take his own service weapon away from him – and he will get shot with his own gun (a not-uncommon occurrence). So instead of getting into a wrestling match, the officer will often draw his 9mm and start firing – killing the man. In this case, if that officer had, instead, carried a non-lethal - but painful and shocking Go-To weapon he could have used “non-lethal force” to make the arrest, and he would have avoided both a wrestling match and a shooting. What do I mean by a “non-lethal” weapon? We all know about rubber bullets used by police doing crowdcontrol at a riot. Usually these bullets are fired from an ordinary pump action shotgun, and they deliver a shock to the rioter without causing a fatal injury. However, we cannot expect a cop to routinely carry a shotgun during his shift. It would be too heavy and unwieldy. We need to ask our firearms industry (we can ask the NRA to help) to do some serious research and product development, and come up with a weapon an ordinary cop can carry with him. One that will cause that angry man to be shocked – No, hurt! – enough that he will stop his attack, but without killing him. If we can spend billions of dollars every year on military weapons (designed to kill) why can’t we spend a few dollars to develop non-lethal weapons? Weapons that can be used by our police to keep us safe – without (un-necessarily) killing us? Holly Maholm is a transgender woman living in Cleveland, Ohio. In essence, the puppy-trainer community has created a social contract. Social Contracts Where individuals with similar interest become a large enough body that social norms are created by the very nature of multiples interacting, a social contract is created. Others that enter the group with moral intentions are either eager to participate and conform to the social norms, are willing to conform to these norms in order to achieve some personal gain, or see the good in the body and will attempt to adjust the social norms to a perceived better state. In doing so, these individuals are participating in the interrelationship between the 40 GRAB Magazine group and the individual and, thus, are assimilated into the preformed social contract. As individuals enter and leave, this social contract is ever shifting with the creation of new dynamics and new knowledge. The social contract captures a consensus of individuals in the group, sometimes built on explicit consent, sometimes on tactical consent and sometimes it operates as a hypothetical account of what individuals subjecting themselves to the contract ought to consent to if they are reasoning and moral. When a social contract emerges, governing the norms of the contract in an effort to maintain the social essence that the contract was created for to begin with is inevitable or the contract fails and the body ceases to exist or is recreated under new norms and a new contract. In establishing systems to govern these norms, individuals give up some of their personal freedoms in conforming. Each individual within the body agrees to follow these norms on condition that everyone else does the same. That way, all are relatively safe with each other and all benefit from the other social goods that result from the group dynamic. At its most basic levels, individuals in social contracts are willing to sacrifice some independence so long as the sacrifice is not too great and they gain some reward from said sacrifice. Human nature dictates the July 26, 2016 reward most easily agreed upon is that of self-preservation in the form of safety and established norms to ensure that all that fall within the social contract are able to rely on one another to keep their agreements. The new body politick the puppy trainer community “We’ve created a new nation, rawer, cruder and less refined, but no less single-minded in its belief that we are an independent nation.” Benjamin Franklin, Philadelphia 1776. Unlike the social contracts created by other kinks (Leather, Rubber, Master/Slave, AB/DL,) the normalization of puppies and trainers into a community as a phenomena is a relatively recent occurrence. As such, the foundational principals that govern the norms within that social contract are currently being tested and clarified. This is particularly true where local and regional social contracts integrate with and come into conflict with social contracts of the larger puppy-trainer community. The relatively recent creation of the puppy bill of rights, Mosh rules, Guidelines for handlers and trainers, and rules governing puppytrainer contests and their hierarchies are all current examples that are defining the nature of this social contract. Though outside kinks and fetishes will continue to have a profound impact on the puppytrainer world, in order to maintain the integrity of its social contract, the puppy-trainer kink must continue down its path of growth and development as an independent body with its own norms, ideas and limits. Our community exists in an exciting time. The freedoms offered by the norms and social contract that is the carefree human puppytrainer kink are in congruent alignment with the social expectations of the two most recent generations that have come of age. This, along with changes in health care, a world and larger society in a heightened state of unrest causing the need for more people to seek an avenue of pleasurable escape and the proliferation of social media are but some of the reasons that have led to an enormous influx individuals into the kink communities through the puppy-trainer world. The leaders of other kinks and fetishes will hopefully be farsighted enough to see this influx as a positive for all kinks and continue to support and encourage the growth of the puppytrainer community. Many entering the Puppy-Trainer social contract see the community as a gateway into the kink and fetish world. Some will stay with the puppy-trainer kink forever; some will branch out and try new things and become members of other fetishes as well. We, in the puppy-trainer community, have a moral obligation by the very nature of our social contract to keep our members safe physically and mentally, as well as to grow the kink in positive ways as the norms of the community expand and change. In doing so, the puppytrainer community has an obligation not only to itself, but to the larger kink and fetish community. The kink and fetish communities have been given an opportunity at rebirth. We exist in a much different social time than when other kinks and fetishes came into their own. As with the creation of America, the old world didn’t cease to exist when the United States established itself; we all learned to coexist. Our communities need to do the same. Alunageorge’s New Album “I REMEMBER” Now available for Pre-order; Album Due out Sept.16th MUSIC KT Tunstall Announces New Album 'KIN' To Be Released September 9th I'm In Control Tour Dates for Chicago are July 27th at Lincoln Hall and July 28th-29th at Lollapalooza. The album will be available for pre-order at all participating retailers. Two years ago, KT Tunstall thought she was done with music: "As an artist I feel like I died," she says. "I stopped. I gave up. I didn't want to do it anymore." She put her stuff in storage and bought a little house in Venice Beach, California and enrolled in the Sundance Institute's elite Film Composers Lab. It was a turning point in her life. Two years later KIN was born. Produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Fitz and the Tantrums, Air, M83 and more), and written and recorded by KT in LA, it exemplifies the very best of guitar pop. "The truth is, I've finally made peace with being a pop songwriter," KT says. "This record was very much embracing my dharma as an artist, which is to write positive songs that have muscle, but also show their vulnerability." It has been over ten years since KT released her multi-platinum debut, Eye To The Telescope, and in KIN, KT sees its full bodied and blooded follow up. The album's new focused sound is exemplified by the teaser track 'Evil Eye'; a stripped back, primal rock 'n' roll track that seeded the whole record. The album's lead single 'Maybe It's A Good Thing' shows KT in top form: a moment in life captured in a bright, powerful pop song with an irresistible and unforgettable melody. The diverse collection also includes a duet with KT fan James Bay, the raucous rebellion of 'It Took Me So Long To Get Here, But Here I Am', 'Run On Home', the call to arms of 'Hard Girls', and the beautiful album closer 'Love Is An Ocean'. Upcoming tour dates September 21st House of Blues, Chicago, IL September 22nd at The Vogue, Indianapolis, IN and September 23rd at Barrymore Theatre Madison, WI. Tickets on sale now at kttunstall.com/live. 44 GRAB Magazine I Remember - the eagerly awaited sophomore album from London duo AlunaGeorge - is now available for pre-order on itunes. The album will be released by Interscope Records on September 16th. Those who pre-order will receive instant downloads of the band's new single, "Mean What I Mean," featuring Leikeli 47 and Dreezy, as well as the previously released tracks "I'm In Control," featuring Popcaan, The Flume-produced "I Remember," and "My Blood," featuring Zhu. "Mean What I Mean" premiered yesterday on Annie Mac's 'Hottest Record In The World' on BBC Radio One in the UK. Written and recorded in focused bursts of creativity in LA and London, the album sees them confidently maintain their unique sonic palette while pushing forward into bolder territories, channeling personal experience into a delicious mélange of pop styles. "We were going for that holy grail of songwriting," says Aluna. "It was an attitude of 'let's see what else we can do'," adds George. At the same time, it marks an opening of their creative process to new inputs and influences, as exemplified in its diverse list of collaborators. Aluna says, "It started to feel a bit like we had all these friends in music that we liked hanging out with but we haven't shared AlunaGeorge with anyone else, and at some point we were like 'why not?' Let's open it up a bit more. We wanted to let people in a bit more now that we're more confident in our sound". AlunaGeorge, which is singer/ lyricist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid, are currently on the road for their "I'm In Control" Tour, which includes a headlining show at Lincoln Hall in Chicago, plus several festival dates (Promowest, Forecastle, Lollapalooza, Panorama, Life Is Beautiful and more) before wrapping up on August 3rd in Seattle. The band will then join Sia on her Nostalgic For The Present arena tour, which kicks off on September 29th. July 26, 2016 Billboard chart-topping Pop/ Dance songwriter and recording artist Brielle releases her debut self-titled album "BRIELLE" to rave reviews. "This is a special time in my life as I am finally able to release to the world what I have been working on for so long," says Brielle. "The time has come for everyone to see the different sides of me and my journey. Simply put, I am just excited!," she adds. BRIELLE - the album, was led by the catchy single "Ought To Be" and it's now being followed by the classic, "Rock The Catwalk" (also know as Rock The Cabash by Clash), just in time for fashion weeks across the globe. The album includes the catchy lead single, "Ought To Be" where its basically reminiscent of a perfect time in your mind. Where you get lost in a thought of having a great night wishing it never ended. Then you have the classic "Rock The Catwalk", a remake originally released by The Clash. In this song you are able to experience Brielle's love for fashion and the industry. You will also find the powerful song, "Wasted" wherein Brielle shares the ups and downs of being in a one-sided relationship and when eventually after trying to work it out over and over, you basically end up wasted of emotions. Another song is the inspirational, "Catch A Star For You". The song which started out as a poem, reminds you of not allowing yourself to fit into a box, but simply be who are for you and not others. Then you have the patriotic yet summerfriendly, "Rocket", where Brielle's pays homage to the National anthem while reminiscing of a fun summer spent with friends. Art AIDS America Exhibition to Open in Chicago on World AIDS Day Art AIDS America, a groundbreaking exhibition which underscores the deep and unforgettable presence of HIV in American art, culminates its U.S. tour at the Alphawood Gallery (2401 North Halsted Street, Chicago). This temporary space has been created in a former bank by the Chicago-based Alphawood Foundation to bring the exhibition to its only Midwest venue. This is the first exhibition to explore how the AIDS crisis forever changed American art. Since the first reports of mysterious illnesses in the early 1980s, HIV and AIDS have touched nearly every American in some way, and operated as an undeniable, though often unacknowledged, force in shaping politics, medicine, culture and society. While acknowledging and honoring the enormous anger, loss and grief generated by the epidemic, the exhibition refutes the narrative that AIDS is only a tragic tangent in American art. Instead, Art AIDS America offers a story of resilience and beauty revealed through the visual arts, and of the communities that gathered to bring hope and change in the face of a devastating disease. Admission to the exhibition will be free with timed tickets; it opens on World AIDS Day, Thursday, December 1, 2016, continuing through Sunday, April 2, 2017. This year, Underscore is also partnering with CPA Theatricals and Kokandy Productions for “The Bridge Program,” in which composing teams are paired with an established theatre company that oversees casting and rehearsals to give writers and composers a sense of what’s involved in the production of a new work. Bailiwick Chicago, which is presenting one of this year’s workshop productions, will also provide equipment and additional sponsorship for the festival. "This year's festival continues CMTF's trend of growth to better serve and provide an artistic home for our vibrant Chicago community of musical theatre creators," steamy, sell-out hit Bette, Live At The Continental Baths, with Caitlin Jackson recreating Bette Midler’s historic bathhouse concert in New York City. Kokandy Productions and CPA Theatricals are taking over the production process for our Bridge Program – and Bailiwick Chicago will be producing a workshop in the festival, joining past participants such as New American Folk Theatre. We've also welcomed productions that have previously succeeded at the New York Musical Theatre Festival and now are looking to bridge the gap into regional productions so that their shows can have a life beyond the first presentation. We are also thrilled to work with Victory Gardens to combine our similar missions of producing groundbreaking new work." Carter Dane: Although I had always been drawn to the idea of a porn career, it was my best friend who had to finally give me that last little push. This led me to apply to a few studios including men.com for whom I shot my first scene in Men in Canada. Soon after I was told to look into cockyboys and they allowed me to make that amazing scene with Colby Keller I had been fantasizing about for so long a reality. Binbadaboom! An exclusive contract inssued and here I am today. TO: Was the first person you had sex with a boy or a girl? CD: It was actually a boy, when I was younger. We were camping somewhere in New Hampshire and this boy and I got along pretty well. One evening, after a day of 50 GRAB Magazine swimming and mud throwing we finally went for a shower. Then, well July 26, 2016 I'll let you guess what happened next. TO: Boxers or briefs kind of guy? CD: I started off as a boxer-brief kind of guy, but now briefs and jockstraps have become my everyday go-tos. TO: What type of guy turns you on? CD: A type of guy that turns me on, eh? Well, I am attracted by many types of guys, but in terms of pure and instant lust I get weak in the knees when approached by tall scruffy men. This probably comes from my longing for a hairier body and face . TO: You were recently in Chicago for the Grabbys so I have to ask have you ever slept with a fan? CD: As of now it has never happened. And anyways, to be completely honest, most people have no clue who I am, so I am pretty sure the chances are slim for me to sleep with a "fan" per say. TO: Has working in porn had any impact on sex in your private life? CD: Well, working in this industry gave me the chance to meet people who are, for the most part, comfortable sexually therefore at ease with talking about it. "Communication is key" is not just a saying and it is valid in so many areas in one's life, including when having sex. So to answer your question before I blab on for hours, porn has made me a better communicator in my sex life, enriching every bit of it. TO: What has been the best thing about working in porn so far? CD: As I confess in my upcoming new scene with no other than Adam Ramzi on cockyboys.com, the intimate chemistry that I have been lucky enough to share with some of scene partners is undeniably why I'm still here. Granted, sometimes I might have wished I shied away from getting too close. That being said, I could never let myself regret falling for someone or else I fear I would miss out. "Live and learn" for sure, but "live" is required for that. TO: You have an amazing body what is your workout routine like? CD: Hmmm... I jog first thing in the morning, then go to the gym 5-6 days/week while splitting up the different muscle groups. However, it does change pretty often depending on my goals. Also, one's routine is decided by levels, goals, etc. hence I feel like "following" my workout routine would not be a good idea. Plus I am no expert. But eh, I am sure Diego Sans or any other personal trainers out there July 26, 2016 GRAB Magazine 51 Photos By Anthony Meade 52 GRAB Magazine July 26, 2016 could better explain what a good routine looks like ;). TO: You are a Cockyboys exclusive so what can we look forward to be seeing you in? CD: As mentioned before, I am really excited for my new scene with Adam Ramzi coming out soon. Afterwards, scenes with Boomer Banks, Jimmy Durano and "cameo" if you want with Levi Karter will be featured within the "Just Love" summer series on cocky boys.com. Some other exciting scenes are in the making but I cannot say anything just yet, sorry. Oh! And there is the "All Saints" project, which we should start shooting later this summer. Fingers crossed for a mid to late fall release . TO: Who has been your favorite cockboy to get naked with so far? CD: That is a hard one, litterally and figuratively. I am always uncomfortable picking, since I can find ways of complimenting every scene partner I have had. Mostly that I was fortunate enough to get to work with some of the A-lists of the industry... But at cockyboys specifically, I have to say that my lust and desire for Colby Keller has now found a match in Adam Ramzi. But I will let you guys be the judge of that. TO: Best way for your fans to keep up with all things Carter Dane? CD: My Twitter and Instagram accounts are probably the best ways to keep tabs.
