For those who have funds automatically
withdrawn from their bank account to pay for
charges, a new ACH form representing ACV
Community Services will be required. These forms
can be obtained and returned to the cashier‘s office
during its hours of operations or from the finance
office during standard business hours.
Automatic payment deduction can be a
convenient and worry free way to pay for charges
incurred at ACV, and now can be a good time to
establish this service. As detailed above, forms to
establish automatic bill pay can be obtained from
the cashier or the finance office.
As we finalize these changes, Jan. statements
will be delayed a few days, so please bear with us as
we complete this transition. If you have questions
or need further information please contact Steven
Hett at (386) 658-5450 or via email at
[email protected].

President’s Desk

FOUNDERS DAY CELEBRATION
Thur., Dec. 17, 12:30 p.m., RDR
You are cordially invited to ACV‘s Founders Day
celebration scheduled for Thur., Dec. 17, 2015.
Come and enjoy lunch, and then stay for a historical
program that commemorates an aspect of this
special ministry. The program will begin at
approximately 12:30 p.m.
On Dec. 17, 1913, the Setzer children from NC
arrived in Dowling Park and thus signify the
founding of ACV. Through Founders Day, we
celebrate ACV‘s rich history by focusing upon an
aspect of life in Dowling Park. This year, with the
final approval of the library being received, we will
look at the comings and goings of library and
education over the years at the Village and share
information about the new library that will now be
constructed.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy
this special celebration.

Winter Wonderland, Candy Cane Forest,
Gingerbread Village, marshmallow roast, Santa,
Train Display and much more! The cost to

ACV RESTRUCTURES ITS
BUSINESS OPERATIONS
In 2004 ACV made a strategic decision to separate
its operations into six limited liability companies.
While that structure has served us well, a review of
our current operations has indicated that a
consolidation of some of our current limited
liability companies will increase our efficiencies
and enable us to better serve you.
Effective Jan. 1, 2016, ACV Management
Services, LLC, ACV Family Services, LLC and
ACV Conference Services, LLC will be dissolved
and all operations, assets and liabilities of these
limited liability companies will be merged into
ACV Community Services, LLC. Be assured that
there will be no change to any of the services
provided as a result of this action.
What this does mean to you is that beginning
with your Jan. statements, all charges typically
received from the dissolved companies (ACV
Management, ACV Family, and ACV Conference
Services) will now come from ACV Community
Services, LLC. This will reduce the number of
checks you will be required to write ACV as those
services will now be provided through this one
entity.

―Christmas‖ Village is still well-known for its
efforts at making the Christmas season a very
meaningful time. ACV is excited to announce that
two extra special concerts by Tim Zimmerman and
The King‘s Brass will be part of this year‘s
festivities.
On Dec. 19 and 20, ACV is bringing back a
Village favorite — Tim Zimmerman and The
King‘s Brass — for a concert weekend that is sure
to be a high point of the Christmas season. These
two concerts are part of the Live! at Dowling Park
Artist Series, but ACV has cancelled the usual
entrance fee as a Christmas gift to the community.
See note at end of article regarding tickets for
reservations.
The King‘s Brass, formed three decades ago, is
comprised of professional musicians from across
the country who desire to use the instruments they
love to lead others in praise and worship. They
present hymn classics with a contemporary flair, as
well as tried and true brass favorites, all with great
gusto and fervor. The King‘s Brass features three
trumpets, three trombones, a tuba, percussion and
keyboards. These instruments blend together to
create a time of innovative worship that ACV has
enjoyed hosting each year for more than a decade.
Accompanying both concerts will be a community
choir made up of several church choirs (young and
old) and the Suwannee Elementary Third Grade
Chorus.
The performances will take place in the VC on
Dec. 19 at 7:00 p.m. and Dec. 20 at 3:00 p.m.
Admission is free; however tickets are required. A
love offering will be taken to help offset the cost of
the concerts. Tickets may be reserved by calling the
VC office at 658-5344. Seating is limited, so don‘t
wait.
RUSTIC SHOP SPOTLIGHT SOCIAL
Fri., Dec. 18, 3:00-5:00 p.m., Rustic Shop
On Fri., Dec. 18, you are cordially invited to attend
the Rustic Shop‘s third Spotlight Social from 3:00
to 5:00 p.m. We will honor Dorothy Marvick for
her thirteen years of volunteer services. Dorothy
makes clothing protectors, serves as a desk clerk,
and is always willing to help in other ways. During
the social you will be able to view a framed photo
of Myrle Bixler, who was instrumental in the
organizing of the Rustic Shop in 1972. The
surviving managers of the shop will be present so
you can congratulate them for their efforts in
making it a success.

CHRISTMAS MOVIE MATINEE
―CHRISTMAS WITH A CAPITAL C‖
Sat., Dec. 19, 2:00 p.m., OPR
Christmas has always been a time of love and
tradition in small town Trapper Falls, hometown of
Mayor Dan Reed (Ted McGinley). With his brother,
Greg, they drape the town in Christmas cheer.
When Dan's high school rival, Mitch (Daniel
Baldwin), returns home after 20 years, he takes
offense in seeing the town's nativity scene — a
violation of separation of church and state. Mitch
wants the nativity scene removed and ―Merry
Christmas‖ switched to ―Happy Holidays.‖ Trapper
Falls learns the lesson that, with the arrival of
Christmas, good will was to be given to all — even
to those whose hearts seem closed to Him.
Produced by Pure Flix. Dove ―family approved‖ for
ages 12 and over. Approx. 90 minutes.
CHRISTMAS STORIES & COOKIES
Mon., Dec. 21, 3:00 p.m., OPR
Do you remember when your parents or friends read
Christmas stories to you? Maybe you remember
your school teacher sharing special Christmas
stories with you. Do you remember reading
Christmas stories to your children and
grandchildren?
If you enjoy the stories of
Christmas join me and your friends and neighbors
in the OPR so we can hear some of our favorite
stories of the Season. If you have a favorite
Christmas book, poem, short story, or other article
share that. We will take turns reading to each other.
Several times we have had members who have
brought their original Christmas writings to share.
If you have a favorite Christmas book or story and
don‘t have a copy just let me know. I might have it
and can bring my copy. We have had a gathering
like this for the last few years. It is a good time to
relax and enjoy the company of others. Tea and hot
chocolate will be served and so will cookies if you
bring a few to share.

FREE ARTIST SERIES &
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION EVENT
Sat., Dec. 19, 7:00 p.m.
and Sun., Dec. 20, 3:00 p.m.
For many years, ACV has worked very hard to
make Christmastime a special time for its members
and the surrounding community. Decades ago,
administration decided there would always be an
array of decorations and a host of events this time of
year to bolster the spirits of those who couldn‘t be
with family during the holidays and to help them
feel excited and well-loved. Years later, Advent
3
were won by Jo England, Charlotte Manuel,
Emerson Moore, Carl Pohlman, Charles Rinek,
and Tom Richards. A group from DM joined us
this month producing two winners: Emerson and
Charles. Charles Rinek was our oldest birthday
guest, Brenda Story was our youngest birthday
guest, and both received fresh fruit baskets from the
Village Grocer. Our party helpers this month were
Dorothy Brenner, Mary Lou Dasher, Phyllis
Klitzkie, Barbara Phipps and a lovely young lady
from DM, who accompanied the DM guests. Thank
you all so much! If you would like to be a part of
the birthday celebrations as an occasional helper,
please call Eleanore Catarious at 658-5251.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL HIGH TEA
Mon., Dec. 21 & 28, 3:00 p.m.,
Village Café
You are cordially invited to A
Christmas Carol High Tea.
Each Mon. during the month of
Dec., The Village Café will be
transformed into a lovely
Victorian Tea Room where high
tea will be served at 3:00 p.m.
Reservations are required and
the cost is $15 per person.
RSVP: 658-5200.
Webster‘s defines high tea as ―a late afternoon
meal at which tea is served.‖ The Christmas Carol
High Teas will be a late afternoon meal starting
with a cup of soup, followed by a lovely three-tiered
tea tray laden with delectable savories, scones with
Devonshire cream and jam, and scrumptious sweets,
accompanied by a bottomless pot of Holiday Tea.
We look forward to welcoming you!
NEW AT THE RUSTIC SHOP
We are pleased to have fused glass items created by
Edith Deeg here at ACV. ―All my life I desired to
do glass work,‖ she says. When she moved here in
2000 she met Bob and Barbara Hoffmann and
learned that he did stained glass work as a hobby.
Bob agreed to teach Edith the techniques and she
got her start. In 2011 she discovered the ―fusing‖
process, got a kiln, and has been firing away ever
since. She works in her RW garage. These one-ofa-kind pieces will be on display at Horton‘s
Landing this month. What a special gift for that
special someone! Edith will begin her display at the
Rustic Shop on Market Day, Dec. 12.
SUWANNEE REGIONAL
LIBRARY BOOK CLUB AT ACV

librarian, Rhoda Cribbs Odom of the Live Oak
Public Library, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tue.,
Dec. 22. The club will review Unbroken, by Laura
Hillenbrand.
If you are interested in learning more about the
Book Club, attend to find out more even if you have
not read this book. The Jan. book selection will be
announced and copies will be available.
REMINDER
The GSC Dementia Support Group will not meet in
Dec. Meetings will resume in Jan. and will remain
on the 3rd Thur. monthly at 3:00 p.m. in the GSC
private dining room.
PRESIDENT’S CHRISTMAS
RECEPTION
CHARITABLE IRA ROLLOVER —
NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS?
Tue., Dec. 22, 2:30-4:00 p.m., RDR
Vicky and Craig Carter are pleased to invite the
membership to the President‘s Christmas Reception.
You are encouraged to attend this special time of
fellowship filled with festive music and holiday
treats.
Unfortunately, there is still no news. Congress has
extended their deadline for the vote to Dec. 16—not
early enough to make this edition of the FNN. If the
Congressional compromise does not come together,
then it is probable that the tax extenders will pass
through the end of 2016 with provisions retroactive
to Jan. 1, 2015.
If you are waiting to take your 2015 minimum
required distribution until this is settled, please call
me after the 16th for the verdict. The other option is
to move ahead with a gift from your IRA with the
faith that the rollover will pass. (See Important Note
below.)
Each year since 2006, the Charitable IRA
Rollover has been available for those who have
Individual Retirement Accounts and are at least age
70 ½. Through the rollover, a gift of up to $100,000
made directly from the IRA to a qualified charitable
organization, like ACV, counts toward the
minimum required distribution, and avoids capital
gains tax. Plus the amount given does not count
toward annual adjusted gross income. Unlike other
donations, these gifts are not subject to percentage
limitations on charitable deductions.
CANDLELIGHT COMMUNION
SERVICE
Thur., Dec. 24, 6:00 p.m., VC
Come reflect on the pure reason for the Christmas
Season by worshipping together at the Candlelight
Communion Service in the VC.
DECEMBER BIRTHDAY PARTY
The theme for the Dec. Birthday Party naturally was
Christmas with decorations and music by Barbara
and Rick Phipps and delicious, personal-size
chocolate birthday cakes from the ACV kitchen for
our members with Dec. birthdays.
Of the
approximately 90 members and guests in
attendance, there were 25 people with birthdays in
Dec. Along with Christmas trivia and word search
sheets, the sing-along music was enjoyed by all.
The solo by Rick was quite special. Door prizes
4
The IRA charitable rollover is a giving tool
appropriate only for those who don‘t need the
money during the year. If you wish, you can give
directly from your IRA now and if the rollover
passes retroactively, it will provide you with all the
benefits listed above. If the rollover unexpectedly
does not pass this year, your gift will be tax
deductible.
Important Note: In order for your gift to count
as a Charitable IRA Rollover, the check from the
broker must be made out to Advent Christian
Village. If it is made out to you personally, you will
be subject to the capital gains tax, but the gift would
be tax deductible.

ACVers SURELY
ANSWERED THE CALL
Members of the Men‘s Fellowship
of the VC would like to express our
thanks to everyone who made
donations to the Salvation Army
over the past two weekends. Cash
and checks placed in the red kettle
at the VS totaled $1,744, which was more than $200
above the amount donated in the previous year. It is
really great to witness so many ACVers giving
generous support to such a worthy organization.

NEW ART GALLERY DISPLAY
Once again we are pleased to have the stained glass
artwork of Harold Garner for Dec. and Jan. It has
become a Christmas time tradition to have Harold‘s
beautiful work for all to enjoy during the holiday.
This year there are four pieces by Edith Deeg, hung
on the right of the display. We are so fortunate to
have such talented people here to share their work
with us. As usual, thanks to Paul Cook for hanging
the display. It couldn‘t be done without him.
UPS SHIPPING
FROM ACV INFORMATION CENTER
It‘s that time of year to be thinking about preparing
your packages for shipment. The IC can assist with
your holiday shipping, as well as all year long.
Please follow these few guidelines in preparing
your package:
 Make sure your package is in a corrugated box
with no wrapping over the outside of the box.
 Use clear strapping tape only.
 Secure your package with tape on the bottom of
the box, as well as the top and sides.
 If you are shipping any breakable items, please
make sure they are in a box, separate from the
other items, with cushion, foam, or bubble wrap
and placed in the center of your box, if possible.
 UPS does not ship to Post Office boxes; it must
be a street address.
The IC receives packages Mon.-Fri. from 8:00 a.m.
– 4:00 p.m. If you want your package to go out
the same day, please make sure you get it to IC
before noon in order for it to go out that day.
The longer you wait, the more it will cost you
to ship your packages because you will have to ship
by air to get it there and it will cost more. The last
day for ground service pick-up is Wed., Dec. 23
with no guarantee for delivery by Christmas.
You can pay for the shipping with cash, or
check made out to Advent Christian Village. Credit
card payment is not accepted. If you have any
questions, please call the IC at 658-3333.
PHOTO GALLERY
Check out the Photo Gallery display just down from
the Lopin‘ Gopher in the PC. It has taken on the
festive images of Christmas cheer and beauty. The
photographers for this exhibit are Don and Joanne
Mott and Earl and Diane Johnson. These are
beautiful images for us all to enjoy. Special thanks,
as always, to Don Mott for the production and
framing of this display.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

John Baron (Frank Sinatra), who take over the

Gratitude should not be limited to a certain time of
year, but there is something about the holiday
season when the good in our lives resonates deeply.
We, here in ACV, see and experience gratitude in
many forms day after day. This is a time for
celebrating our Lord Jesus Christ's birth, a time of
sharing with each other the joy of Christmas in such
a personal way. Whether it is a smile, a thought, a
prayer, a touch, a financial gift, take time to let the
love of God shine through.
A big thank you is being sent out to Karen
Coke and Pat Hartmann for their behind-thescenes assistance in preparing some of the
Christmas decorations for parts of the Village. As
the saying goes, ―It takes a Village,‖ believe it!

Ann Thompson, VP, 658-5400
ACV has many beautiful sights and sounds,
especially for this season. I want to take this space
to thank the staff, members, volunteers, and friends
who make this all happen. It does take a village.
I thought it might be of special interest to tell
you the story of how we came to some of our
exhibits. The family of long-time members donated
their Christmas village to ACV. In looking for a
way to display it so it could be enjoyed by many,
Bud Royal was recruited to create the revolving
Christmas tree that is across from the IC in the PC.
Bud researched the equipment needed, designed it,
constructed it, and assembles it every year.
The beautiful nativity scene that is in the
entryway from the VC to the PC was crafted at our
own Ceramics Shop over ten years ago. Those
involved in the Ceramics Program felt that it was
only fitting to have a nativity scene for our Village.
Arlene Neal Williamson, Laura Putnam, Lyn
Stevens, and others were the creators.
The Toy Christmas Tree that welcomes you to
the PC is decorated with toys and decorations to
reflect the heritage and roots of ACV as an
orphanage. Many tell me it is their favorite tree as
they stop to reminisce over the toys.
You might wonder where the camels came
from. Did they wander in from the desert? They
are so lifelike you have to look twice. They are the
creations of Bud and Joyce Royal. They were
created to be a part of the Christmas on the Square
to follow our ACV nativity scene float. They have
made many appearances and are often a part of
Christmas family pictures.
We are truly blessed by the talent, skill, and
generosity of those around us.
If you look for Me at Christmas,
you won't need a special star.
I'm no longer just in Bethlehem,
I'm right there where you are.
You may not be aware of Me
amid the decorations....
You'll have to look beyond the stores and all the
decorations.
But, if you take a moment from your list
of things to do
and listen to your heart,
you'll find I'm waiting there for you.
You're the one I want to be with.
You're the reason I came,
and you'll find ME in the stillness
as I'm whispering your name.
Love, Jesus

Member Services Tip of the Week:
The Parade on Wheels is Fri., Dec. 18, at 3:00 p.m.
It is fun to watch. Listen for the siren and look for
Santa. Here is the route: leaves Lake Aquilla
parking lot and goes towards CH, then behind CH
along the river to the VS, winds through the square
and turns onto Dowling Park Drive, turns right on
Marvin Jones Blvd. and goes to GSC and DM, back
out to Marvin Jones Blvd. and goes through RW to
CCC, where the parade ends, awards are handed
out, and refreshments served. Come enjoy the fun.

communion in celebration of Christmas and the
Reason for the Season. We have been waiting for
the Village Singers to be with us and Thur. is the
day. We look forward to this group of men singing
to us again! Welcome back!
Thur. evening, the DM staff will have their
Christmas party and dinner. While we are partying
and eating, volunteers Arlene (supervisor) and Doe
Williamson, Jean Swensen, Jim and Cheryl
Gilroy, and Gene and Sandy Peters, will serve our
members their supper. I believe ―Coach‖ may be
bringing his guitar, so possibly some Christmas
songs? Thank you all for helping to serve!
Fri. is ―National Ugly Sweater‖ Day so be sure
and get out those ugly sweaters! Come by DM and
show us what you have on! Peyton and Jeanne
Florence will accompany our members to hear Tim

Happy birthday to Emerson Moore on Dec.
19. Emerson was pleased to have his son and
daughter-in-law, Tim and Faith Moore (MN) pick
him up on Tue. to drive to Brooksville to see their
grandchildren! They will return on Wed evening.
Looks like Emerson will start his birthday
celebration earlier in the week!
We will be baking cookies on Fri. to enjoy after
the Golf Cart Parade. We welcome Martha

We would like to wish Sally Anderson (Dec. 15)
and Evelyn McIntyre (Dec. 19) a very happy
birthday.
CH had a cookie swap (bring 2 dozen, take 2
dozen) on Sat., Dec. 12. Residents made cookies or
treats. There was a table for the cookie swap
goodies and a table with more goodies to eat and
enjoy. The activity room was very festively
decorated. We had some goodies like fruit cake
cookies, chocolate chip, peanut butter, and sugarfree cookies, just to name a few. We also had
popcorn, coffee, and lemonade. There were special
plastic bags to put your two dozen cookies in. Then
after everything was done, you take home your
goodies and enjoy. Yum Yum! I know for a fact
that my cookie monster (Adrian) loves cookies.
Thank you to Carol Wilcox and Florence Barr for
all of the work they did putting the cookie exchange
together.
I hope that everyone has a blessed week. If you
have an item that you want put in the FNN, you
may put it in the FNN box at the front desk of CH,
or you may call me at 249-5774. God bless!

We were very blessed to have Gilbert Macias last
week to minister to us. We look forward to his
return in the future! Cindy Crews accompanied
Charlie Rinek, Frances and Myrl Ellis, Marie
Feero, and Linda Hughes on the Ride-About via
Verna Knox to the Village Birthday Party.
Emerson Moore met us there. A great time
together!
The DM staff took turns going to the Village
Staff Party and it was a lot of fun with games, food
and fellowship! A big thanks to Human Resources
for heading this up and those who led the games,
prepared the food, and encouraged staff to attend!
The GSC Memorial Service on Thur. a.m. was
a time to remember our friends. Pastor Jack Jones
shared about each of them and Gene ―Coach‖ and
Sandy Peters sang a song to complete this time
together. Peyton and Jeanne Florence led our
monthly hymn sing.
Mon. was ―Green Day,‖ so many dressed in
green! Don and Joanne Mott showed ―Bethlehem
and Beyond,‖ a beautiful musical of the Christmas
story during ―Arm Chair Adventures.‖ On Mon. the
Live Oak Rotarians served a delicious dinner to our
members and staff. All were dressed up, the dining
room festive, a great meal, and great service! We
appreciate the Rotarians for this annual Christmas
gift!
On Tue., the Men‘s Coffee Hour will gather in
one room and the Painting Class in another! Wed.
is ―National Chocolate-Covered Anything‖ day so
in between programs and activities we will be
indulging! The Live Oak Women‘s Club Chorus
presented a Christmas musical program for us and

Happy birthday to Mary Pender on Tue., Dec. 22.
May you have a special birthday and blessings in
the years to come. Happy birthday to Gail Odom
on Sat., Dec. 26. May your day be special also, with
good health to follow you in the years ahead.
Toward the last of Nov., Mary Jane Klements
and Norma Jean Combass vacationed on St.
George Island at East Point, FL. They rented a
furnished house with a porch and deck which faced
the ocean. Sitting on the porch they could watch the
beautiful sunrises and sunsets. They walked the
beach and collected shells. Cooking on the grill
outside was a real treat. Norma Jean‘s son took
them out to eat in the greatest seafood restaurant,
called the Blue Parrott. They went fishing on a
8
bridge and caught whiting, trout, hammerhead shark
and a robin fish. It was all great fun. Norma Jean
went to the wedding of her granddaughter in Jasper
on Sat., while Mary Jane waited here for Norma
Jean to return. They then drove back to St. George
Island the same day. They had a great time.
We welcome Evelyn Miller back to her
apartment in DH after a lengthy stay away between
hospitalization and GSC. She returned home on
Thur.
Adele Lake had a visit on Fri., Dec. 11, with her
granddaughter, Jennifer Lake, an Emergency Room
nurse who just finished working in a hospital in
Seattle. Jennifer and her dad, Bobbie Lake (Adele's
eldest son), arrived in Live Oak on Dec. 10 after
completing a cross country trip from San Francisco.
Adele had not seen Jennifer since 2008 and enjoyed
the visit. Jennifer will be leaving in mid-Jan. to
work at a hospital in Atlanta.
Sonny Bays’ sister and his niece, Mary Ann
Williams, and Patty Hogge from Knoxville, TN
visited over the weekend. Sonny showed them
around the Village. Mary Ann said she enjoyed
seeing what a nice place her brother has to live.
After being released from the hospital to GSC
after knee replacement surgery, Ed Smith has had
to return to the hospital for other problems. Pray for
complete healing of the subsequent problems he is
dealing with at this time. Continue to pray for others
of our DH family you know or become aware of
needing the comfort of prayer.
Thank you for your news this week. You may
contact me by e-mail at [email protected], by
telephone at 658-2015, or leave a message in the
FNN box at the front desk. In the words of Tiny
Tim, ―God bless us everyone.‖
As I enjoy this beautiful warm weather, it might
be difficult to believe that Christmas is near, BUT
then I look around me and see all of the beautiful
decorations in the Village and attend the wonderful
programs provided and thank God for His son - the
reason we celebrate. I hope you had the opportunity
to attend the Nada Cantata on Sun. Thank you to all
of those participating for giving all of us attending
such a wonderful gift of music.
PARK OF THE PINES
Betsy Reynolds, Reporter
Dec. is sailing right along and in only a little over a
week we will be celebrating Jesus‘ birthday. On
Sun. night the VC celebrated with a musical
program featuring the youth and Chancel Choir. I
really enjoyed hearing the children sing and almost
cried when Avery Peacock sang Happy Birthday to
Baby Jesus! It‘s been a wonderful blessing in my
life to participate in the choir and this year is no
different.
Next weekend will put the icing on the cake
when we, along with several area choirs, sing along
with The Kings Brass. If you haven‘t picked up
your tickets yet, you may be out of luck and will
miss a very special event.
Another POP long-time resident has moved to
DM and Marie Feero will be sorely missed. Don‘t
forget to send her a card. Emerson Moore, a
former POP resident, is also at DM. Thanks to
Emerson; my husband, Bob; and neighbor, David
Currier, who set up the Nativity scene in Jeanne
Grover’s side yard. Emerson came by and told the
men where it was stored and told them where to
place each figure. I was afraid we‘d not see it again,
but there it is!
Susan Smith and Alan Schroepfer are settling
into their new home on Cedar Drive. They are
anxious to meet all the neighbors when the season
settles down. So much to do, right?
A heads up for everyone: there is a beautifully
Christma-decorated yard about 6 miles east of the
town of Madison on the road to Valdosta, GA. It is
very impressive and this year the owner also had a
patriotic salute to all the military and first
responders. Music plays on your car radio 104.3
FM. They put out a basket for donations to help the
volunteer fire department who helped put up and
take down the display. Be vigilant of the traffic that
speeds by the area.
Coming up on Mon., Dec. 21, is Peg
Spangler’s birthday and on Dec. 22, Bob and I will
celebrate 31 years of marriage. I know that‘s a drop
in the bucket here at ACV, but I‘m grateful for the
years the Lord has given us to get it right! I
especially appreciated Pastor Tim‘s sermon on
Sunday about love. Do we truly try to love our
spouses by putting their interests before our needs?
Something to think about.
Keep me posted on your holiday doings. POP
will have a get together after the holidays. Just think
of cookies, fudge, fruitcake and the list goes on.

As Bob was preparing to leave for the post office, I
asked that question which I frequently ask, ―Is this
Tue.?‖ Since the answer was yes and I realized that
I was sleepy last night and went to bed without
writing this article, I hastened to the computer. Last
week was a busy week for the residents of ET and
TC since we had our Christmas party on Tue. and
our monthly breakfast on Thur. There were fewer
residents present than expected, but those who
attended enjoyed the food and fellowship. Some
even discovered that they had attended the same
high school although in different years. As we were
leaving, someone suggested we think about a
catered event next year so put that on your
―thinking agenda‖ to discuss at our next
neighborhood meeting. There were only seven
neighbors who joined each other for breakfast. We
missed you at both events if you were unable to
attend.
Ken Regele and Rowena Daniel are still in
GSC. I am sure they would love to see a friendly
face from the neighborhood if you have an
opportunity to visit them. Claudia McClaine is
still recovering at her daughter's home.

THANK YOU

―It‘s beginning to BE a lot like Christmas.‖ All the
beautiful decorations around ACV are in place, the
lighting of the Christmas Tree (by all us kids) after
Christmas Caroling in church on Dec. 6, RV
meeting to finalize plans for our dinner on Thur.,
and then the concert by Dick Grillo, Ted Jones and
Bob Story presenting the music of Advent and
Christmas. Then we ―came home‖ to the RV
Lobby, where dining tables had been set up and
beautifully decorated. The entire Wotton clan
prepared and filled the food tables with traditional
Christmas fare: fruit cup, turkey, ham, sweet potato
casserole, white potatoes with gravy, vegetables
(both hot and raw) displayed beautifully and trays
of condiments. Stuffed as we were, who could
resist homemade apple, pumpkin, or pecan pie and
coffee or tea! Our ―family‖ gathered ‗round and
Frank Sinclair gave thanks for and asked God‘s
blessing on our food. We were so glad Myrle
Sinclair could join us and saddened that Virginia
Kilgo was spending time in the hospital. Thank you
so much for a delicious, delightful evening. Many
other events took place, capped off by the delightful
Family Christmas Program (Nada Cantata). The
poignant ―Happy Birthday Jesus‖ skit was a strong
reminder of just WHO Christmas is all about – it‘s
so easy to get caught up with the busyness of the
Season. Enjoy the other events – we look forward
to seeing you at the VC on Christmas Eve to share
communion.
Christmas brings to mind many lovely and enduring
memories. Last Thur., three wonderful, talented
men blessed everyone in the Sanctuary with
beautiful Christmas carols and anthems. I was
moved to tears when Ted Jones sang ―Comfort
Ye.‖ Many years ago, in the Methodist church that
I grew up in, we had a soloist who sang this at our
candlelight Christmas Eve service. I was about 10
years old, and I remembered telling my mom, ―I can
feel God here with us.‖ I had chills up my spine
then and on Thur., I had chills again. How
powerful the music of Christmas is! I thank the
three very talented guys who ministered (not
―performed‖) to us: Dick Grillo, Ted Jones, and
Bob Story.
Also, many thanks to Rosemary Humbles, the
choir, and our fantastic church! The program
―Nada Cantata‖ was terrific. Most of all I thank our
Lord for His great love. We have an incredible
Savior, whose birth our Village is celebrating in
such a beautiful way. Truly we are blessed. Soli
Deo Gloria!
Love in Jesus, Jeanne Florence
Thank you to all of you for your kindness and your
caring way of friendship! The food, cards, emails,
Facebook, calls, prayers, scholarship fund, hospice,
the VC memorials, flowers, and friends who just
kept in touch were such a wonderful honor and
blessing to Leland. I, as well as our family, know
that God is in charge and He has a plan for each of
us. Thanks to the food service staff, the VC staff,
the medical staff, and the EMTs for all their help
and support. We are all very fortunate to live in an
area where God‘s love is shown to each of us
always, but even more in hard times. Thanks again
for your friendship! May God bless your New Year
with health and friendship!
