The Royal Canadian Legion adopted as a Millennium
Project the establishment of a Tomb of
the Unknown Soldier at the National War
Memorial. This Legion led project saw the
remains of the Unknown Soldier repatriated
Enlargement
from France. Records of the Commonwealth
War Graves Commission show that the soldier
was a Canadian who died in France during the First World War. We do not know which
battle he gave his life in, his age, the unit he fought with, or the date of his death.
On May 25th, 2000, the Canadian Forces flew our Unknown Soldier home to Canada
after a ceremony at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. Upon arrival, the casket
carrying the remains of the Unknown Soldier was moved to the Hall of Honour in the
Centre Block of our Parliament Buildings. His remains lay in state for three days so that
Canadians could pay their respects.
On May 28th, 2000 “A Canadian Soldier of the Great War – Known Unto God” was laid
to rest in a specially designed sarcophagus. Of 117,000 Canadians who have made the
ultimate sacrifice, almost 20,000 have no identifiable grave.

Each of these works of art incorporates a
design produced just for us. Made by Gray
Art Glass of Merrickville ON, slight variations
will occur as each 5.5” diameter sphere is
custom blown using colour to highlight
features of the Poppies. While location will
only be limited by imagination, they are
particularly stunning when displayed in
front of a window where light will draw your
attention to the Poppy stems that rise from
the bottom of the sphere. Supplied with a
steel hook and line.

This custom made throw incorporates the Poppy motif designed
by our own Karen Taylor. Intentionally made a little larger than a
typical throw, it measures 58” x 68”. Composed of a 70-30 Cotton
poly blend, the throw is machine washable, and hung dry. The
motif is woven into the fabric, a nice feature over less expensive
printed versions. While suitable as a gift or a nice accent for your
home, you may one just for the comfort they provide.

These candles are hand poured in Canada by Kleem Candle of
Maple Ridge BC. Each pillar style candle measures 6” high by 3”
in diameter and displays our own Poppy motif. Made from high
quality paraffin wax with 100% cotton wicks.

Poppy Umbrella (Standard)
The most obvious advantage of a standard umbrella over a
compact is the size of the canopy. The Legion Poppy Umbrella has
a 40” canopy that opens out to reveal the Legion Trademark Poppy
covering nearly the entire top. The other, less obvious advantage
is the handle. The traditional hook handle is 35” long, allowing for
better control of the canopy in windy conditions, and also serving
as a cane when the umbrella is closed. The Legion Poppy Umbrella
comes with a storage sleeve emblazoned with the Legion Logo.

The Legion Compact Poppy Umbrella is adorned with the
Trademark Poppy covering nearly the entire top. The 37” canopy
folds down to a convenient 10” long cylinder that fits in a purse or
coat pocket. All folding umbrellas are not created equal, though.
This one is one of the better designs (a marvel of engineering,
when you really look at it) that folds up easily but is sturdy when
opened. It comes complete with a storage sleeve, decorated with
the Legion Logo.
Poppy Tote Bag
Thanks goes out to artist Karen Taylor for designing this beautiful
bag. Her original artwork transforms a day-to-day item into a
fashion accessory. Technically it’s a tote bag, but it is nice enough
to be carried as a purse. The size is perfect- 15’ long by 10’ high. The
white insets with the Poppy print are actually pockets. The bag and
handles are made from heavy canvas and features a gusset bottom
for extra capacity. It is fully lined and the top has a zippered closure.
You’re going to love this bag.

Both the attractive gift box and pen itself have been
adorned with our own Poppy motif here. This pen,
weighing 28 grams, has been selected from a large
variety representing the very best quality. Standard
replacement cartridges can be used.

Two seemingly opposite characteristics, delicate and strong, are
combined in a traditional natural textile silk. That makes it an
excellent choice for making a scarf. The Legion’s Silk Poppy Scarf

head and wrap around your neck. The original art for the Poppy
print was designed by the Legion’s talented graphic artist, Karen

Usually when a sample for a new product comes
in, our product development team immediately
starts a list of things that need to be changed
before we can go to production, and a second
sample eventually is produced to respond to the
list of changes. The day it arrived, this cardigan
was just right. We looked and looked at every
detail and try as we may, a list of changes was
not happening. It is a great colour. The weight of the fabric is
right. The buttons are right. It has excellent bound pockets and
ribbed cuffs. The neck binding is great, and the sizing is excellent.
All we had to do was add the embroidered Legion Logo. We’re
sure you’ll be as happy with it as we are.

Very often we find ourselves using a garment in a
way it was not intended for, the typical example
being a zip-out fleece liner for a coat ending
up as a jacket unto itself. With this comfortable
fleece jacket, you will no longer need to do that.

This belt is made from genuine Italian leather a full 1 ½” wide and
1/8” thick. The one-size-fits-all belt is 55” long fitting waists up to
50”. The belt is easily sized by cutting off the excess before you
clamp on the secure buckle. The well made buckle is cast with our
Legion Badge, then chrome plated, providing a nice contrast to the
black leather.

A good carabiner watch at a reasonable
price has frankly been a challenge for
the Supply Department, largely because
there are literally thousands of products
out there to choose from. With such
a wide range of quality and price, our
product developers chose a strict set of
standards to work with to narrow the field.
Starting with a reliable movement as the
most important, the watch we would
ultimately choose also had to have a
sturdy, attractive case, a secure, easyto-use attaching mechanism and face
cover, plain, readable face, and finally,
contain durable materials. We finally
found that watch and customized it

Legion Bandana
The bandana has the attraction of being an extremely versatile item of clothing,
uses ranging from a handkerchief, headscarf, neckerchief, a means of carrying a
bundle of goods, a bandage or a sling, sun protector, babies’ bib, duster, potholder
and dust-mask to name but a few. The Legion bandana certainly satisfies all these
needs. It is a 100% cotton, 22” square, with finished edges. Beyond that, bandanas
have, for two centuries, been used to carry messages ranging from children’s

The Royal Canadian Legion was founded on a grass-roots movement among Veterans, and to this day finds its strength in its
“from the ground up” philosophy. Hence it is no surprise that
the Legion Riders Program started in the same way. A small
group of motorcycle enthusiasts among the membership of the
Legion decided to turn their passion into a vehicle to carry the
Legion name and promote the traditional values of the Legion.
Now their numbers are growing, with the sanction of Dominion
Command. New groups are forming across the country to help
generate more awareness about the Legion and its services to
our serving and retired Veterans and RCMP personnel and their
families as well as engaging in community service. You too are
welcome to show your support even if you don’t ride a motorcycle. Keep the spirit alive. Join us.

In support of the Legion Riders program the Supply Department has
sourced Leather vests from a Canadian Manufacturer. With over 65
years of experience, Saxon Leather is the leader in leather apparel in
North America. Saxon uses only the finest drum-dyed top-grain (no
splits) cowhide leather and fabric in the manufacture of these custom
vests. These vests are truly a Made-in-Canada product. The Legion
Riders’ own trademarked emblem is permanently embossed into the
back of the vest. Anyone can buy and wear one of these vests to show
their support for Legion Riders even if they don’t own a motorcycle.

Legion Riders Ball Cap
The first thing many riding enthusiasts do after removing their
helmet is to reach for a ball cap. No need to explain why but several
of you suggested that we add a ball cap to your Legion Riders
offering. This cotton ball cap comes with your full colour Legion
Riders logo prominently displayed on the front and your Legion
logo on the back.

was initiated following a
request to the Legion Senior
Elected Officers by several
Legion members who are
motorcycle
enthusiasts.
The aim is to help generate
more awareness about
the Legion, its presence
across the country and its
services to our serving and
retired Veterans and RCMP personnel and their families as well as
engaging in community service work. The Logo’s bright colours are
printed on a 200 denier nylon motorcycle flag with double stitched
edges, and along the leading edge there’s a ¾ inch sleeve to slip
over an antenna or anything else that will suffice as a flag pole. At
8 ½ x 11 inches it is suitable for car, motorcycle, boat, snowmobile
or any other vehicle that bears an antenna. We don’t include any
other hardware or attachments because there are just too many
variations on antennae out there. You are welcome to show your
support for the Legion Riders and the Legion even if you don’t ride
a motorcycle.

we knew right away that we should offer it to you the membership
in our catalogue. If your office is like ours, I’m sure you can find what
seems to be an unending supply of pens, all of which are singularly
forgettable. This pen is not like that. It has weight to it. It has a

glass ball was hand-painted
then reproduced onto flat
sheets of glass. The flat sheets
are then formed into spheres

Poppy Suncatcher

As with all of our Poppy images, careful attention was devoted to make sure that
the Poppies on our suncatcher are the real Flanders Poppy (Papaver rhoeas). We
focused the same attention on quality and durability as well. We could have
reduced cost by using a lesser grade of glass and a monofilament hanger
like most commercial suncatchers. Instead, we use double thickness glass,
bringing the weight of our 18 cm (over 7”) diameter suncatcher to about
half a pound; the image is finely crafted with colour fast acrylic bonded to
the glass, the edge is finished in traditional stained glass lead caming, and
suspended with a sturdy chain. Note also that the Poppy Suncatcher does not
come with a suction cup suspension hook. This is not an oversight - we actually
recommend that you suspend your Poppy Suncatcher from the window lock
or a screw hook firmly fastened to the window frame. Carry on the tradition of
displaying a Poppy in your window in a new way this Remembrance Day.
Rosewood Pen and Pencil Set
How often are we at a loss when faced with the need to buy a
presentation gift? These rosewood products have been selected to
fill that need, although you may just want to buy a set for yourself.
The pen and pencil set comes complete with a rosewood case for
storing them when not in use. The pen and pencil are laser engraved
with “ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION” while the case is laser engraved

These toys have been developed by the Legion to act as an aid

By now everyone in Canada has heard the
story of the invention of basketball by
Canadian James Naismith. His intent
was to create a game that requires
little in the way of equipment, and
can be enjoyed indoors during the
winter. You don’t need us to tell
you how successful his idea has
become, especially among young
people. Recognizing the Legion’s
keen interest in youth programs,
it was no great stretch for the Supply
Department to come up with a Legion

This knife comes well sharpened and will hold an edge as it has been

Over the centuries flags have become a universal method of declaring our identity. Such a simple device carries a wealth of information
about its bearer. Internationally, the Maple Leaf speaks of where we come from, but it also states what we stand for. Our Provincial flags
carry the message of the strength and diversity of our confederation.
Flag patches are a convenient way to declare our identity when it is impractical to carry a flag. These Canadian made patches are treated
with a heat-activated adhesive for easy attachment with an ordinary clothing iron. They can be used on garments, backpacks, tote bags,
luggage, hats, just about anything made of fabric. If heat is not an option, they can be sewn on as well. The provincial flags and the Red

Canada’s Aboriginal people have
a long history of military service,
from the time of the American
Revolution to the modern era.
Joseph Brant fought alongside
the Loyalists to prevent the spread of
the revolution into what is now Canada.
Four generations later, his great-great-grandson, Lt. Cameron
Brant died in battle at Ypres. Down through the years, heroes
such as Tecumseh, who died in 1813 at the battle of the Thames,
George McLean, a veteran of the Boer War who was wounded in
heroic action at Vimy Ridge, and Word War II and Korea Veteran
Tommy Prince, recipient of the Military Medal and the Silver Star,
exemplify the commitment to principles that are essential to the
fabric of Canadian Society today. The Royal Canadian Legion is
honoured to recognize the contributions of today’s Aboriginal
Members of the Canadian Forces as well as their ancestors.
BIRTH OF A NATION
On Easter Monday, April 9, 1917, 100,000 Canadian soldiers stormed and captured Vimy
Ridge in France. It was one of the great victories of World War I. Although the cost to
Canada was high - 3,600 dead and more than 7,000 wounded - historians say this victory
marked the birth of Canada as a nation. It was the first battle in which all units of the
Canadian Army fought together, and their success was overwhelming.
After the war the Canadian government determined the battle should always be
remembered, and decided to build a monument at Vimy Ridge. Reaching 40 metres into
the sky, the Vimy Memorial is made from 6,000 tons of white limestone. Resting on it are
20 figures that represent Canada’s soldiers and the principles they gave up their lives for.
The Members of The Royal Canadian Legion join with their neighbours across the country
to express our gratitude towards all members of the Canadian Forces, past and present,
by celebrating the courage and commitment of those brave Canadians who fought and
won the impossible victory at Vimy Ridge.

ARMISTICE 1918
As the news spread, there was celebration in some places,
but at the “Front,” where soldiers stared at each other
across “No Man’s Land,” no one cheered. For certain, they
were happy to still be alive, but all around them, as far as
the eye could see, lay devastation beyond belief. Culture
in Europe, centuries in the making, lay in ruins. Eight
million people had been killed. Those who survived laid
down their arms and returned to their homelands with
memories of fallen comrades—memories that would
never leave them.

Canada was profoundly affected by the events of the
First World War. A generation of young Canadians had

The following year, King George V declared 11 November
to be Armistice Day—later to be known as Remembrance
Day—a day to remember all those who had made the
supreme sacrifice in service to their country. Subsequently
it grew to become an annual tradition, increasing in
significance after the Second World War.
Today, more than 90 years after order and sanity was
restored to a world of chaos and desperation, we are
reminded of the
sacrifices that were
made and are
still being made,
summed up in the
Royal Canadian
Legion’s enduring
motto—Lest We
Forget.
For Canada, events that took place during the First World War were defining
moments. Canada grew into nationhood, and those who served in the
Canadian Armed Forces at that time earned a peerless reputation of courage
and commitment. Two generations later, Canadians still recognize that
those who served and those who died are owed a debt that can never be
repaid. Now that the last of the Canadian Veterans of the First World War has
passed away, it is even more important that we ensure that the memory of
their sacrifices will never be forgotten. 628,736 of our fellow citizens stepped
forward to serve. 66,573 of them died. The Royal Canadian Legion will

Armistice, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marked the
end of the First World War. This t-shirt honours this historic event with

At the darkest hour before the dawn on 11 November 1918
a train car sat in a forest 50 kilometres north of Paris.
Inside, a treaty was signed to end hostilities that had
ravaged Europe for more than four years. Six hours later,
at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns
fell silent. It was the beginning of the end of the Great War,
the “War to End All Wars.”

NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL
75TH ANNIVERSARY
National War Memorial Commemorative Pin
The Royal Canadian Legion takes pride in commemorating the 75th anniversary of
the dedication of the National War Memorial. It stands as a timeless symbol of the
sacrifice that so many have made in service to Canada.
The memorial takes the form of a tall granite arch, on top of which stand huge
bronze figures of Victory and Liberty. Marching through the arch are 22 figures
representing all branches of the service in the First World War. Upon the faces of
these figures the eager expression of hope replaces the lines of strife and death.
They leave behind an unlimbered cannon and all it stands for.
THE 11TH HOUR, THE 11TH DAY,
THE 11TH MONTH
Unveiled by King George VI in the spring of 1939 to commemorate the unselfish
response of Canadians in the First World War, the memorial has come
to “symbolize the sacrifice of all Canadians who have served Canada
in time of war in the cause of peace and freedom.” 2014 marks the
75th anniversary of the formal dedication of the National War Memorial.
The Royal Canadian Legion recognizes the significance of this national
symbol of Remembrance with a commemorative lapel pin. The
National War Memorial Commemorative Pin is finely cast in bas relief
and plated with antiqued silver and bronze to faithfully represent
the monument’s granite arch and bronze figures. The standard

D-DAY 1944 - JUNO BEACH
Of all the significant events of the 20th Century, the Normandy Invasion on 6 June 1944 was the
most important, changing the course of history. It marked the beginning of the end of Nazi rule
in Europe and ultimately led to the development of the modern world. Canada made a major
contribution to the D-Day attack by taking responsibility for one of the five beachheads, known
forever afterwards as Juno Beach. 14,000 Canadian troops by ship and 450 by parachute landed
in the early hours of that fateful day, supported by the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal
Canadian Air Force.
Juno Beach represents the will of Canada as a nation to preserve and defend freedom and
democracy, not only for ourselves but also for others saddled with the yoke of oppression. The
Supply Department of The Royal Canadian Legion is proud to recognize the achievements of
those Canadians who took part in this heroic event with this collection of commemorative

V-Day Pin

Considering the profound impact that the events of the Second World War has
had in shaping the modern era, it is little wonder that there was such great
celebration in allied nations when victory over the axis powers was announced.
After 6 years of devastating conflict, in all of the allied nations citizens and
military personnel alike were all overjoyed at the prospect that victory was
finally at hand. Time has passed but the memories have not faded. The Legion
Supply Department is commemorating Victory Day with a collection of three
popular items marked with the distinctive victory “V” design. Since the end of
the war in Europe occurred earlier in 1945 than in the Pacific region, there are

THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER
REMEMBERING VETERANS OF THE KOREAN WAR
Only 5 years passed between the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the Korean War,
but during that time the world changed profoundly. Isolationism became a thing of the past, and
governments began to realize that their actions from then on would have global implications. The
introduction of nuclear weapons, the concept of “Cold War,” and the ideological struggle between
capitalism and communism made the Korean War the first chapter in the modern era of conflict.
At a time when the world was still weary of conflict from the Second World War, Canadians were
once again called upon to answer the call of duty to defend a distant part of the Free World against
oppression. The Korean Peninsula became the battleground for “The Forgotten War.” Today, the
Royal Canadian Legion stands with the Veterans of the Korean War to remember those who fought
there and those who gave their lives. Never forget- Freedom is not free.
Korean War Ball Cap
The Royal Canadian Legion adopted as a Millennium Project the establishment
of a Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial. This Legion led
project saw the remains of the Unknown Soldier repatriated from France. Records
of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission show that the soldier was a
Canadian who died in France during the First World War. We do not know which
battle he gave his life in, his age, the unit he fought with, or the date of his death.
On May 25th, 2000, the Canadian Forces flew our Unknown Soldier home to
Canada after a ceremony at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. Upon arrival,
the casket carrying the remains of the Unknown Soldier was moved to the Hall of
Honour in the Centre Block of our Parliament Buildings. His remains lay in state
for three days so that Canadians could pay their respects.
THE KOREAN WAR
On May 28th, 2000 “A Canadian Soldier of the Great War – Known Unto God” was
laid to rest in a specially designed sarcophagus. Of 117,000 Canadians who have
made the ultimate sacrifice, almost 20,000 have no identifiable grave.
Each year hundreds of thousands of Canadians continue to visit The Tomb of
the Unknown Soldier and pay their respects. Canadians have adopted new
traditions, laying on the Tomb Maple Leaf Flags on Canada Day and Poppies at
the conclusion of National Remembrance Ceremonies.
Sometimes, the less that is said, the
better. Respect requires few words.

Silk Poppy Arrangement
During the Remembrance period, and throughout
the year, it is traditional to display Poppy
arrangements. What is surprising is how few
arrangements resemble the actual Papaver rhoeas
(or Flanders Poppy). It took the manufacturer of
these arrangements a full 8 attempts before we
were satisfied that the silk Poppies were a close
enough match to the Papaver rhoeas. Additional
authenticity is provided by added greenery that
is common in the wild. This arrangement comes

Floating Frames
These Floating Frames use a new technology to protect and display your precious keepsakes and collectibles. The manufacturers have
developed a frame that hinges open easily, with two silicone membranes that surround your valued object safely and securely. Once
closed inside the frame, the object “floats” in space between two clear membranes, so that both sides can be seen. The object is not

We designed this medal box intended for use to both store

Construction of this box is solid hardwood, merbau, which closely

Tribute Ceremony Candle
In recent years there has been a type of ceremony
that has been growing in popularity in some regions
of the country. This service, called Candlelight Tribute
Ceremony, was started in the Netherlands in 1995 when
Dutch children placed lighted candles on the graves of
Canadian Soldiers, leaving them burning overnight in
silent tribute to the fallen. Since that time, these tributes
have spread across Europe, and were introduced into
certain areas of Canada.

In response to an increasing number of requests for
a candle that would suit this purpose, the Supply
Department has selected a candle light that is made in
the Netherlands specifically for this purpose. The Stormy
Weather Graveyard Light was introduced in 1963 by
Bolsius, a family-run company that started in 1871. The
simple yet elegant design of these candles features a
100% pure refined paraffin candle, contained in a durable
translucent red plastic shell with a flame-proof, weather
resistant metal cap. Suitable for outdoor use only, this
5 inch high candle is easy to light and will burn for
50-60 hours, in temperatures from +25 to -10 Celsius.

Solid Wood Urns
With regularity we have been asked for digital artwork so that an
urn may be produced for a deceased member. It is these requests
that have prompted us to offer this Canadian made line of solid
wood urns. Essentially two styles are offered here with the Victoria

Members) or Maple Leaf. Overall dimensions of the Legion Badge flag holder
casting is 5” high by 5” wide. Overall the Maple Leaf casting measures 4½” high
by 45⁄8” wide. Both holders are permanently fixed to an 18” iron rod. The flag
is held in place through two eyelets cast into the back of the marker. These
can be used as memorials with or without a flag. Canadian flags have been
produced specifically for use with these holders.
Headstone markers are available
with the Legion Badge, for Legion
Members, or the Poppy, for Veterans. Overall
dimensions of the Legion Badge casting are 4½” high
by 27⁄8” wide. Overall the Poppy casting measures 3¾”
high by 3½” wide. Both castings have an integral tab
cast into the marker for fixing to a headstone. The
markers can be permanently fixed to a headstone by
drilling a ¾” bore hole (5⁄8” deep), filling the hole with
epoxy, and inserting the cast tab. We suggest that a
professional perform this after consultation with the
cemetery and headstone manufacturer. If you do not
wish to bore a hole in the headstone, the tab may be
cut or ground off and silicone or other permanent
adhesive may be used.

Here are the required steps to shape a beret:
1.Start by cutting out the lining of the beret to reduce bulk and ease
shaping. If you are not shaping the beret it is better to leave the
liner in.
2.Form fit the beret. Soaking the beret before donning it will help
stretch the wool and form it to the wearer’s head. Most of the
beret’s material should be pulled down so it drapes over the right
ear. The cardboard stiffener should be centered over the wearer’s
left eye so the headband is about two finger-widths above the
eyebrow. Pinch the cardboard stiffener so that the wool dips
down behind it. Tie the two laces in the back in a non-slip knot for
a snug fit, then cut off the ends of the ties.
3.Dry the beret – by just wearing it until it dries.
The beret is worn with the band one inch above the eyebrows, the
beret crest over the left eye, the beret pulled back and smoothed
to the right side.

The Royal Canadian Legion has
a proud tradition of service to
Veterans and their families, and to
the communities in which they live.
Legion Branches and Commands
across the country recognize the
service that Legion Members provide
through a system of Honours and
Awards. The most visible of these are
medals and bars worn on the Legion
and Ladies Auxiliary Uniforms or
equivalent civilian dress. There are
Medals for Past Service to a Branch
or Ladies Auxiliary and bars which
are sewn onto the medal ribbons,
indicating leadership positions held
and committee or other service. And
there are Medals for outstanding
service, beyond the expectations of
the duties of an elected or appointed

Dominion Convention 2010 authorized the creation of Branch
and L.A. Service Medals for members of the Branch and of Ladies
Auxiliaries to the Branch to recognize the significant volunteer
and service work accomplished by members of your Branch,
outside of or prior to their acceptance of leadership positions.
The authorizing/approving authority is designated as the Branch
Executive Committee (in the case of the Branch Service Medal) or
L.A. Executive Committee (in the case of the L.A. Service Medal)
and/or respective General Membership Meeting. Qualifying
criteria are the responsibility of the branch or L.A. Qualification for
the Service Medal should be a significant level of service provided
by the member to their Branch/L.A. It may be awarded in addition
to any awards/medals previously received by the member.
Branches and Ladies Auxiliaries can purchase these Service Medals
in the same manner as other Medals for Past Service such as a Past
Officer or Past President Medal.

your branches, to honour Veterans, and
to acknowledge volunteers who provide

This line of greeting cards has been produced in-house
by The Royal Canadian Legion. We created these images
using authentic WWI uniforms supplied courtesy of
Canada’s War Museum. These are economical because
they have been produced in-house with the printing
arranged locally. Sold in sets of 10 or a sample pack,
2 of each, these cards are priced quite affordably when
compared to the $5 and up charged by others for a
single card. The cards have been printed on brilliant
white 80 lb card stock and are supplied complete with
envelopes. Another nice touch is the fact that the interior
of the cards has been left blank. We thought you, like
us, would prefer to include a personal note rather than
an impersonal statement written by someone else. One

This comfortable cotton twill apron allows
the server to keep everything handy in its
four deep pockets. The apron contains two
large pockets (7” x 9½” and 7” x 7½”) and
two small (1” x 7”). Embroidered with the
Legion logo in red and white on the black
fabric background. With an adjustable, up
to 70 inch circumference, one size will fit
all. This apron will also prove indispensable
when selling raffle tickets, BBQs, sporting
tournaments, anywhere cash is to be
handled.

If you have tried to obtain custom made
coasters you probably soon realized
that they are prohibitively expensive to
buy in small quantities. Only when tens
of thousands are ordered does the cost
become reasonable. These packs of 100
coasters are custom made for The Royal
Canadian Legion with our Logo nicely
displayed in the centre. We ordered enough
to make them economical. Therefore, it
is affordable to place a “Legion” coaster
under the glass of a member. Though these
3½” coasters, made with an extra heavy 40
point stock, are not defined as reusable,
they certainly are thick enough that they
can be reused until they start to show wear.
We specifically ordered these coasters with
a black background in a heavier weight to
allow them to be reused. Although intended
primarily for Branches, members may also
obtain these coasters for use at home.

Sgt-at-Arms sashes are another item where we
felt we could do better in terms of value. These
sashes are virtually identical to the ones we have
been offering for years except that the Legion
and Ladies Auxiliary badges are embroidered
instead of the mounted plastic badges. We
happen to think the embroidered badges are
preferable and at half the price we are certain
you’ll find these do in fact represent much better
value. The Legion sashes are available in three
sizes while the Ladies Auxiliary is available in the
smaller two sizes. What we describe as Short,
Medium, and Tall has internal circumferences
of 49” (short), 61” (medium), and 69” (tall). If you
are uncertain about size you may use a cut piece
of rope or fabric measuring tape to determine
which size is most appropriate. What we now
describe as medium is the size of the sash we
previously offered.
These are blue and gold cloth armbands with an elastic panel on
the inside of the arm, so that they will fit over the sleeve in both
winter and summer. Worn on the left upper arm.

Tribute Ceremony Candle
HOW TO ORDER:
In recent years there has been a type of ceremony that has been growing in popularity in some regions
of the country. This service, called Candlelight Tribute Ceremony, was started in the Netherlands in 1995
when Dutch children placed lighted candles on the graves of Canadian Soldiers, leaving them burning
overnight in silent tribute to the fallen. Since that time, these tributes have spread across Europe, and were
introduced into certain areas of Canada.
Below we list some of the rules for
ordering. If, for any reason, you are
not satisfied with our service or the
merchandise you receive, please call
us. From time to time we may slip up,
but would really like the opportunity
to correct our errors. Perfection eludes
us, but the desire to provide quality
products and service does not.
In response to an increasing number of requests for a candle that would suit this purpose, the
Supply Department has selected a candle light that is made in the Netherlands specifically
for this purpose. The Stormy Weather Graveyard Light was introduced in 1963 by Bolsius,
a family-run company that started in 1871. The simple yet elegant design of these candles
features a 100% pure refined paraffin candle, contained in a durable translucent red plastic
shell with a flame-proof, weather resistant metal cap. Suitable for outdoor use only, this
5 inch high candle is easy to light and will burn for 50-60 hours, in temperatures from +25 to
-10 Celsius. The subtle glow of these candle lights, especially when used in numbers, creates a solemn

Chaplain’s Stole
Legion Chaplains provide countless
hours of volunteer service to branches

a stole be made for wear by a Chaplain
performing this critical role in The Royal

protocol requires that the Canadian flag be at least as large as
any flag displayed in our colours. It is our hope that offering an

Grommet Clip
Clip for Flag Pole
Over the last few decades the use of flags
with grommets has replaced almost all
with rope and toggle. Grommet clips are
required to attach flags with grommets to
the halyard (hoisting rope) on flagpoles.
These clips are sold individually. Two are
required on all of our grommeted flags
except for the 4½’ x 9’ which requires three.

This is the little C-shaped clip that holds a
sleeved flag securely on the pike. Always
good to have a spare.

light but sturdy aluminum creating an easy

There are several components to a complete flag unit. There is the
obvious flag, pike, pike top and stand. Offering sets including all of these
components only results in forcing you to settle for something that is close
to what you really wanted. This is why we distribute all flag components
separately. All components are compatible with a few exceptions. The
acorn tops will not fit on the wood pikes and the 1¼” wood pikes will
not fit in the economy stands or angled wall bracket. Aside from these
exceptions, the balance of tops will fit on any of the pikes.

This alternative to our carrying case for
a single flag is specially made for us. It is
designed to hold up to six 6’ x 3’ flags, six
aluminum pikes, and six carrier slings.
Reinforced at both ends it measures 62” in
length and is made of heavy black vinyl.
A 7” embroidered Legion Badge nicely
adorns the side of the case.

Pikes are available in a full range. The 1¼” diameter oak pike will not
fit into the economy stand or angled wall bracket. All pikes are the
standard 8’ in height. The wood pikes thread together where the
aluminum pikes contain an internal spring clip to hold them together.
Pike tops, flags, and stands must be ordered separately. All pikes are
supplied with the required “C” clips to hold the flag in place. Wood
pikes are supplied with only one “C” clip as this is all that is required.

perspective it is impractical for us to offer
all provincial flags with fringe. For this
reason we are now offering the exact fringe
used on our flags. This fringe is sold by the
yard and will be provided to you uncut in
one continuous length. Fringe is typically
used on a sleeved flag although there is
no reason it cannot be used on a flag with
grommets. Fringe is used only on three
sides so 15 feet is required for all 6’ x 3’ flags.

stands are offered. The hefty premier stand weighs in excess of 5 lbs.
The premier stand is constructed with a collar to fit a 1¼” diameter
pike but includes a piece of plastic tubing allowing it to be used with
1” diameter pikes. The economical folding stand uses four extending
rods for stability rather than weight. The folding stand will only
accept pikes up to 1” in diameter. Both stands are made with brass

Even the best of darts players miss the board sometimes, especially when trying to double
out on those pesky numbers at the bottom of the board. This is particularly distressing to
those with more expensive darts, when the dart bounces off a hard wall and crashes to the

at some point. So why are nice canes so

The men’s jacket is a classic,

traditional features- metal buttons and

Canada put forth a great
effort in building the Vimy 600304 S
Memorial as an eternal 600305 M
reminder of the sacrifice
for courage and principles. The Legion is
renewing the memory of that great event
with a selection of items including the Vimy
t-shirt, made from 100% pre-shrunk 10
ounce cotton and durably printed.
In response to numerous requests for a
copy of the poem, “The Inquisitive Mind of
a Child,” we were compelled to reproduce
it on a traditional British setting, a tea towel
wall hanging. Once we got going on this
poem, it seemed only natural to include
several of our Canadian Legion traditions,
such as “The Act of Remembrance” which is
an excerpt from Laurence Binyon’s “For The
Fallen,” an excerpt from Rudyard Kipling’s
“Recessional” used in the closing ritual of
Legion meetings. These 17” x 24” tea towels
are made of linen and are silk screened in

These stylish jackets utilize modern poly fabrics that display
unique textured exteriors while providing smooth comfortable
interiors. Although lightweight in feel the fabric provides that

Poppy Throw
This custom made throw incorporates the
Poppy motif designed by our own Karen
Taylor. Intentionally made a little larger
than a typical throw, it measures 58” x 68”.
Composed of a 70-30 Cotton poly blend,
the throw is machine washable, and hung
dry. The motif is woven into the fabric, a
nice feature over less expensive printed
versions. While suitable as a gift or a nice
accent for your home, you may one just
for the comfort they provide.
