Memberships: National Catholic Education Association, Texas Association of Private & Parochial Schools MISSION STATEMENT OF THE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OF TEXAS (Excerpted) The mission of Catholic Education in Texas is the fulfillment of the educational ministry of the Catholic Church and has as its primary goal the continuous formation of the Christian person. As a pastoral instrument of the Church, the strength of the Catholic School is its ability to respond to the needs of the whole person, the Church in a time of transition, and the world with a global perspective for a peaceful and sustainable future. The effective Catholic School must call its pupils to the conviction that people are more important than material gain, that justice is more important than success, that love is more important than esteem, and that collaboration unites while competition divides. The truly successful Catholic School student is not necessarily one who is successful in every endeavor, but one who accepts Christian responsibility for fulfillment of personal potential and shares these gifts with others. Reicher’s Mission: THE MISSION OF REICHER CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL IS TO EDUCATE EACH STUDENT IN SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY BY FOSTERING PERSONAL EXCELLENCE WITHIN THE CATHOLIC TRADITION. This mission inspires the identity and culture of the school and is the most important aspect of its success. † SPIRIT Reicher’s identity is uniquely Catholic. The entire school community gathers daily for Morning Prayer and for Mass on Fridays, and prayer begins every class, sporting event, and meeting. An annual retreat is provided for each grade level. Catholic Identity is evident in our curriculum as faith forms our understanding in every academic discipline and students take four years of Catholic Theology. The student body also contributes over 4,000 hours of community service each year. Significantly, the aspect of our mission students and families mention most is the “family spirit”—or what we call “community.” † MIND Catholic educators say, “Our mission is to get students into heaven first – then into Harvard.” Most families choose a Reicher education, even if they are of other faiths, because they seek an excellent college preparatory education. As a result of Reicher’s rigorous curriculum, students are ambitiously applying and being accepted to competitive colleges, both in and out of state. Every senior takes the SAT and/ or the ACT and the average scores on both tests exceed the state and national averages. 2011/2012: Financial Information Reicher operates debt-free so all resources can support faculty and programs that deliver the best possible education. Mark Deering for his many years of loyal service to Reicher and our community. We join countless others in honoring Msgr. Deering, who celebrated his 90th birthday on November 6, 2011. Msgr. Deering has worked in the Waco community tirelessly for over 60 years. Reicher and our community are forever indebted to him for his work in expanding our faith in the Greater Waco Community. At the time of Msgr. Deering’s arrival, two Catholic parishes existed in the Waco area. There are now 10 Parishes that form the Waco Deanery. Msgr. Deering is responsible for the development of Catholic education in the Greater Waco area, providing the youth of our community the opportunity to be receive a faith based education in the Catholic tradition. In addition to his involvement in the creation of both St. Louis Elementary and Reicher Catholic High School, Msgr. Deering continues to support Catholic education in an extraordinary way. Msgr. Deering created the Deering Foundation in 1991 because he recognized the importance of helping families in crisis, particularly in regard to the needs of their children. Over the years, through the foundation, he has assisted numerous families in severe financial distress due to illness or problems. Not wanting their children to be denied entrance into Catholic schools, he began providing funds for tuition, both at St. Louis and Reicher. Since its incorporation the Deering Foundation has supported the education of over 150 students. Thank you, Msgr. Deering, for your continued dedication to Catholic education. CONGRATULATIONS to David Nemec, 2012 Celebrating Catholic Education Award recipient. Each year the Diocese of Austin recognizes and honors those “unsung heroes” of our Catholic schools, who provide an example of service, invite others into good stewardship and promote the Gospel message in their everyday lives and specifically through the school community. Reicher is proud to announce that Mr. David Nemec is the recipient of the 2012 Celebrating Catholic Education Award for his continued commitment to enhancing Catholic education. IN APPRECIATION of the 2012 Celebrating Catholic Education Event, from which all proceeds were distributed to the schools throughout the Diocese of Austin. As a result of the Event’s success, Dr. Ned Vanders, superintendant of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin, awarded Reicher $3000 to be used for the benefit of tuition assistance at Reicher. Supporting the Reicher Annual Appeal has an immediate impact on the quality of education Reicher is able to provide. What is the GAP? AVERAGE COST PER STUDENT AVERAGE TUITION RATE PER STUDENT = GAP Bridging the GAP at Reicher means covering the distance between tuition paid per student and the actual cost to educate each student TODAY. Reicher charges a tuition that is significantly below the actual cost in order to keep excellent Catholic education accessible to more families in Central Texas. Help Bridge the GAP by becoming a Reicher 100/250/500 member or a Bridge Builder. WHO IS AFFECTED BY THE GAP? EVERY Reicher student! HOW TO BRIDGE THE GAP? Support REICHER TODAY through the Reicher Annual Appeal: • Be a Reicher 100/250/500 Member – contribute $500, $250, or $100 a month for 12 months • Be a Bridge Builder – contribute $50, $25, or $10 a month for 12 months 8 | 2011-2012: REICHER Annual Report WHY INVEST IN REICHER CATHOLIC HIGHSCHOOL? A Chance not Charity. In addition to demonstrating a need, each student receiving financial support must participate in extracurricular activities, complete 20 hours of community service each year, and live up to Reicher’s code of conduct. Because every family must pay a portion of the tuition, a true partnership forms between the family, Reicher, and YOU! Your donation provides a chance, not charity. A Sound Investment. Witness the fruits of your investment each May as Reicher graduates walk across the stage. For the past decade 100% of Reicher graduates have been accepted to college. The graduating class of 2012, consisting of 54 students, earned over $3.2 million dollars in college scholarships from schools across the nation. One graduate will be attending the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Thirteen graduates will be pursuing athletic careers at the collegiate level, including two individuals who will be playing Division I football. “Reicher was a blessing to our family and we were fortunate to have two boys educated in all that is Reicher….mind, body and spirit… they were able to grow, learn and become productive contributors to their communities. We truly feel so much of this was because of the people who surrounded them….their influences, role models like Mark Waggoner, who taught them how to be caring and responsible men……..Reicher was truly a community raising our children.” Hal and Jana Whitaker GIVE TODAY, GIVE EVERY YEAR. If every graduate gave $5 for each year since graduation, this campaign would raise over $250,000 annually! Prayerfully consider giving FIVE. Thank you to the Reicher alumni who gave FIVE in 2011.
