Principal’s Report
New Principal
The merit selection process for our new Principal has been finalised and I am pleased to announce that Mr
David Jenkins was successful in applying for the position. Mr Jenkins is currently the Principal of Oakhill
Drive Public School. Mr Jenkins will officially start in his new role as Principal of Rouse Hill Public School
on Monday, 11th November, 2013. Mr Jenkins will be visiting our school tomorrow at lunchtime and will
also be attending the P&C Meeting tomorrow night. The P&C Meeting starts at 7:00pm and all parents and
community members are, as always, welcome to attend. On behalf of students, staff and parents, I would like
to warmly welcome Mr Jenkins onto the staff at Rouse Hill Public School. I am sure that he will love
working with our wonderful students and dedicated staff and will enjoy getting to know our terrific parent
community.
Overseas Excursion to China
On Friday, 25th October, 21 Stage 3 students and 7 staff/parents will be departing for China for a 9 day
excursion. As well as visiting our sister school, Ningbo Experimental Primary School the tour group will
have many amazing sight-seeing opportunities. They will visit Tian An Men Square, The Forbidden City,
The Great Wall, the Beijing Olympic Site, Beijing Zoo, Zhujiajiao Water Town, Shanghai’s Old Town
Market, The Bund, Shanghai Science and Technology Centre and Shanghai World Financial Centre (one of
the tallest buildings in the world!)
I hope that all the students attending (Grace, Natalie, Caitlyn, Sally, Tayla, Rachel, Emily, Julia, Juliana,
Kaitlin, Laura, Kira, Claire, Saxby, Ethan, Sam, Brody, Mattias, Lachlan, Patrick and Mitchell) all have the
experience of a lifetime! Many thanks to the dedicated supervising adults that are accompanying our lucky
students; Mrs Cleveland, Ms Thoroughgood, Mrs Cassidy, Mrs Tan and Mrs Newton. Huge thanks also to
Mrs Przyrembel and Mr Simpson for arranging their schedule so that they can also accompany the tour group
and help care for and supervise our students.
Happy and safe travels everyone!!!
Good Luck, Kyra!
Kyra F in 4L is part of Team KSTP that will be performing in this week’s final of ‘Australia's Got Talent’!
Team KSTP will be showcasing their Tumbling skills in their performance that will air on Channel 9 this
Sunday, 20 October, starting at 6:30pm.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to the Stage 3 boys who attended the Semi Final of the Western Sydney Wanderers School
Cup yesterday. The boys played extremely well and came 2nd, only losing one game during the day. The boys
will now play in the finals on Sunday at Parramatta Stadium before the Wanderers Game. Good Luck, boys!!
Thanks to Mr Futcher for coaching the team.
Kindergarten Orientation
A parent only Kindergarten 2014 Information Evening is scheduled for Wednesday, 23rd October at
6:00pm. I look forward to meeting 2014 Kinder parents. I am sure that you will find the planned sessions
very informative. Thanks to Mrs Cassidy for her organisation of this event.
Disco…1st November…save the date!!
The P&C are running a disco on Friday, 1st November. The K-2 disco will go from 4:30pm to 5:30pm and
the 3-6 disco will start at 6:00pm and conclude at 7:30pm. The discos will be run in the school hall. Leftover
items from the Freaky Festival such as fairy floss and showbags will be on sale on this night. A note with
more information will come home in the near future.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Trial…Stage 3
To equip our students to be 21st century learners (problem solvers and creative thinkers that have fluency
with technology), having unlimited access to a wireless device is a definite advantage. Stage 3 students have
been given the opportunity to bring their own iPad from home (with parental permission and under strict
conditions) into school this term.
Some advantages in BYO iPads are:
• Students will have access to educational Apps used at school whilst at home
• Any work done on the iPad will be available for students to access in the home setting
• Students with an iPad may have the opportunity to complete their school work digitally and then
email it to their teacher for marking
• Instant access to research topics
• Students will not have to share an iPad with other students
• Students learn responsibility and care for their own device
• Increased engagement
• Students will begin to learn how to authentically integrate the use of technology into their daily work
and to utilise it so as to maximise the greatest educational benefit
If this initial trial is successful we hope to expand this project next year. BYOD combined with the use of
school owned technological devices will hopefully not only increase the amount of devices that students have
access to but also the frequency in which they can engage with this technology on a daily basis.
Collecting Students Early
Please remember that if a person other than you (grandparent, aunt, uncle) picks up your child early from
school that the office staff requires verbal or written permission from you (parents) to enable this to occur.
Also, all persons that collect students early from school are required to show the office staff some ID in order
for us to sign out your child. These measures are put in place to protect students and we thank you for your
cooperation and understanding in this matter.
Barbies…a plea from Mrs Thomas
Mrs Thomas is setting up a Barbie Play Box for Kindergarten. She has 8 Barbie dolls who need clothes. All
donations are gratefully accepted.
Please find attached a Term 4 Calendar of School Events and a Term 4 Updated Staff List.
Have a great week.
Kind Regards,
Alison Filipic

School Banking
Welcome to Term 4!
Our school bankers have earned the school $237.20 in Term 3. Thank you to all our school bankers.
You are now able to claim the head phones as a reward. All the other rewards from this year are still
available.
We have some important changes happening from now into 2014.
In 2014 the School Banking program will be launching a new set of exciting reward items for students to
redeem their tokens. Each reward item will continue to be valued at 10 tokens (i.e. 10 deposits) and there will
be two new reward items for students to choose from each term.
With exciting new reward items on offer in 2014, the Dollarmites Character Moneyboxes will not be
available in 2014. If you would like to redeem your tokens for a moneybox please do so prior to the end of
the year. Please note that due to this change you can order more than one moneybox this year.
With these changes taking place the school banking program will be launching an automated reward tracking
and redemption system within the Web-based System. A personalised letter outlining these changes will be
sent to all school bankers shortly. Please read the letter and return the slip by the due date.
A new competition has been launched for Term 4. Simply make two or more school banking deposits from
21st October to 30th November and you will automatically be in the draw to win. Prizes include:
•
•
60 x Apple iPod Touch 16GB
100 x Adventure DVD Pack including Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2 & Hop
Finally please note the last day for school banking will be 3rd December, 2013.
Thank you once again to all our school bankers.
