ST. JORGE ISLAND
St. Jorge island is one of the nine islands of the azorean archipelago that makes
part of Portugal and is located in the Atlantic Ocean. The island has 53 km long, 8 km
width and has about 10 500 inhabitants.

Velas is the main town in our island and is where our school is located (Escola Básica e
Secundária de Velas)

The coin used in Portugal (Azorean and Madeira archipelagos) is the Euro but
before we changed to this coin we used to use the Escudo.

GASTRONOMY
In St. Jorge the gastronomy most known are the St. Jorge cheese, local clams,
local sweets and the Holy Spirit Soups.
