To find out how to share your

If you live here but don’t have proof of residency, you can
get a Transition Card to use the computers and borrow
two items at a time. Identification is required for Transition

Notification
Sign up for email notification and you’ll receive prompt
notice when you have items on hold that are ready for
pickup. You’ll also receive courtesy notices when your
borrowed items are about to become due (with the exception of Fastviews and Fastplays).
Contact your local branch or go to gvpl.ca.
Renewals
You can renew materials at gvpl.ca, via the mobile app or
in person at your local branch. You can renew 21-day loan
materials twice if no one has them on hold.
Overdue Materials
The library’s collection belongs to everyone. Please
return borrowed materials promptly so others may enjoy
them. If you forget to return an item by the due date, a
daily overdue charge will be charged to your account up
to a maximum amount.

Library cards are free if you live or attend school in the
GVPL service area, which includes Central Saanich, Colwood, Esquimalt, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, Oak
Bay, Saanich, Victoria and View Royal, as well as Beecher
Bay, Songhees, Tsartlip, Tsawout and Esquimalt reserve
lands. You must show identification that has both your
legal name and current address. If you do not have identification with your legal name and current address, you will
need to bring two pieces of identification that show proof
of residency.

plan to chart the library’s course for the next several years. During the month of
September, we will be seeking your opinion – in your local branch, on the street
corner, online and beyond – to find out how GVPL can continue to connect you
with ideas and information. We encourage you to have your say and tell us what
makes the library your place.

Story Buddies
Little Buddies
Tween Volunteers
For ages 4-6. Make your own original book even if
you can’t read or write yet! Story Buddies pairs young
children with volunteer tweens for creative writing
and illustration fun. Your Big Buddy will write down
your story and then you will illustrate it together.
For ages 10-12. If you like working with children,
enjoy stories, are a fluent English speaker and want
to help young children with early literacy skills, we
need you! Story Buddies tween volunteers pair with
young children aged 4-6 to make an original story
book. We provide training and, upon completion,
a letter outlining your volunteer hours. First-time
volunteers, please complete the Tween Volunteer

local branch) and register for a Tween Volunteer

DigiLab Teen Volunteers
For ages 13-18. Develop leadership skills, earn volunteer hours and use
your creativity and tech skills to help other teens use the new mobile
DigiLab. DigiLab equipment will include digital artwork devices, digital
photography, crafts and more! First-time volunteers, please complete a
Teen Volunteer Referral Form and register for a DigiLab Training Session.

Latin Course for Teens
For ages 13-18. Latin is not a dead language and, with
a little effort, you can learn to read it. This is a rigorous
course in classical Latin for committed teens
taught by Mark Nugent & Dr. Gregory Rowe
(UVic). By year’s end you will be able to read
poems by Catullus, the medieval Bayeux Tapestry and the Latin translation of Harry Potter. The course runs for eight
months and is free but a textbook is required; contact [email protected]
for information about purchase, second-hand or borrowing options.
