The Monitor: Newsletter of GWRRA Chapter VA-L—Iron Clad Wings, December 2014
- Virginia has a new GWRRA chapter… on January 4, 2015 Virginia welcomes a
new chapter. Chapter VA
VA--B1 will hold their Kick
Kick--off gathering starting at Bella
Pizza, 1673 Tappahannock Blvd in Tappahannock, Virginia.
The festivities will start at 2:00 with socializing and eating. The Kick
Kick--off will start
at 3:00. Please ee--mail or call the Chapter Director if you are interested in
attending. This would be a terrific Chapter ride to welcome the newest Chapter,
the Rappahannock Wings, to the Virginia District.
- VA-U Fun Weekend: This weekend of training will take place on Saturday 21
February and Sunday 22 February 2015. On Saturday we will conduct Medic First
Aid training (MFA) from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. The MFA training will be limited to
12 students at a cost of $30.00 per student. On Sunday we will offer seminars in
Leadership Training, Membership Enhancement and Rider Education lasting from
8:00AM to 3:30PM. According to an anonymous source, lunch will be served on
both days; training will be conducted at the Ashcake Volunteer Fire Department,
in Hanover, VA. For those wanting to make a weekend of it, we have rooms
blocked at the Comfort Suites, Glen Allen, VA under GWRRA, at a rate of $85.00.
Please contact the hotel directly via phone at 804-262-2000 for your reservations.
Contact the Chapter Directors Rob and Cheryl Ramsey for additional information
via email: [email protected] or Ken Taylor, 703-819-6766.
- Angie and I want to let Chapter-L know how much fun we had representing such
a terrific group of friends around the state. We were honored to serve as the
Chapter Couple for VA-L and are excited about what is in store for us as we begin
representing Virginia as the District Couple. Chapter-L is home; we look forward
to seeing our “family” again in January.

Editor’s Note
Another year gone… where did the time go? It doesn’t seem like the year should be coming
to an end but it is here.
I took over as Newsletter Editor in October 2012; that is 26 newsletters under my belt. That
doesn’t sound like a whole lot but let me tell you, it is. I have pictures on my computer from
every event attended and pictures I received from other members throughout the years. I started something last
year about having a “December Pictures” only newsletter that would recap in the year in pictures. That seemed to
be well received by the Chapter, so I figured to do it again this year.
There were many terrific moments during 2014 but I forgot one unforgettable moment in the November
newsletter; Ritchie & Lyn Blanford being awarded their Level 4, Master Tour Rider, designations. I had the pictures
from our gathering but I placed then in my October folder instead of my November folder. By placing them in the
October folder, I didn’t see them when I was reviewing November pictures for the November newsletter. So with
that said, please let me introduce Ritchie & Lyn Blanford; Master Tour Riders.
Lyn & Ritchie were awarded their Level 4, Master Tour Rider, designation by John Skinner,
Assistant District Educator (East)
