Please return the gifts by Sunday, December 16. Thank you for participating in this very worthwhile cause. Understanding My Value To My Church Community Laura Humphries, Parish Life Coordinator ‘I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all: but whatever I have placed in God’s hands that I still possess.’ Martin Luther A Jolly Thank-You ‘Charity begins at home’ from Regina Binz “Charity begins at home” ranks among the most misunderstood and miss-used sayings in the world. It seems to condone taking care of one’s own…before taking on the problems of the neighborhood, the community, the world. Although generally quoted as though it were taken from Scripture, it is not a lesson found in either the Old or New Testament. The Holy Sews Jolly Jammies Jamboree Committee would like to extend a special thank you to all of the volunteers, talented bakers, silent auction supporters, vendors, youth group volunteers, Santa Claus, and the many attendees who made our first big fundraising venture a huge success. Thank you Kevin Binz for using your expert photography skills to help us pull this off! Special gratitude to Stabnick Family! They are always my “go to” for various reasons! Pete did a masterful job of calling the reindeer races while Susanne and Cindy ran the cake walk. Tom Devine and Bruce Saad skillfully manned the kitchen and provided snacks to cure the munchies. Thanks to Nancy BynumMack for her expert help with decorations! Special thanks to Tom and Mary Devine for all of their hard work behind the scenes to purchase the food for everyone to enjoy. We are very grateful for the continued support of the Men’s Club and their donation to help us cover the cost of the event. Claire Putt, Mary Bea Hiegel, Carolee Riley, Michela Palmieri, Stephanie Byers, and Dottie Funk—Thank you for filling in where I needed help the most. Katie Ransdell, thank you for your expert advice! I’d like to add extra special thank you to my loyal sidekick and true servant of God, Mary Sue Whitelaw. Without you, I would be in big trouble! The phrase actually is from the play Andria, written by Terence, a pagan Roman poet who lived a century-and-ahalf before Christ. Terence was born in Carthage in Africa about 195 B.C. He was captured and taken to Rome where he was educated and eventually freed. His plays are based on Greek comedies and were produced between 166-160 B.C. He is said to have influenced later playwrights, including William Shakespeare. An excerpt from The Little Burgundy Book During Advent there are ample opportunities to practice the saying “Charity begins at home”. In our vestibule there are two Angel Trees with ornaments on them with gift ideas for those who are less fortunate than we are. There are other trees located in the malls in town provided by the Salvation Army. Food Banks are in need of food. We are all called to give of ourselves and our time, talent and treasure. Taking any of the above mentioned opportunities answers that call. -3- Proceeds will benefit the Holy Sews Ministry whose volunteers make layettes for stillborn babies. The layettes are distributed to Arkansas hospitals at no cost. Holy Souls This & That . . .
