Our Church Family Weekly News
I'm in the Lord’s Army
The 2016 Downtown Vacation Bible School theme has been selected and
VBS will soon be upon us. This year’s theme is “I'm in the Lord’s Army”,
and it is sure to be a great one! There are many comparisons that can be
made to a solider and a Christian. In fact Paul told Timothy to be strong
and endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ (2Ti 2:1-3). The term
“hardness” in the Greek language means to endure hardships and afflictions. Christians must develop a tough mentality in living among those in the world.
The following poem is one that I have shared in a sermon that I believe beautifully
portrays the steadfastness and commitment that Christians must possess.
God’s Soldier
I am a soldier in the army of my God. The Lord Jesus Christ is my commanding officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct. Faith, prayer and the Word are my weapons of warfare.
I have been taught by God’s Holy Book-trained by experience, tried by adversity and tested by fire. I am a volunteer in this army,
and I am enlisted for eternity.
I will either retire in this army when the Lord returns or I will do so after the Judgment of
man, but I will not get out, sell out, be talked out, or pushed out.
I am faithful, reliable, capable, and dependable.
If my God needs me, I am there.
I am committed.
I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me around.
I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit.
If I end up with nothing, I will still come out ahead. I will win.
My God has, and will continue, to supply all of my needs.
I am more than a conqueror.
I will always triumph.
I can do all things through Christ.
The Devil cannot defeat me.
People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me.
Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me.
Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me and hell cannot handle me.
For I am a soldier in the army of God and I’m marching and claiming victory.
I will not give up.
I will not turn around.
I am a soldier marching, and I am heaven bound.

CONGRATULATIONS
We congratulate Sara Beth Searcy who was
chosen by the teachers at Mars Hill Bible
School to represent the Tenth Grade Class at
the Hoby Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership in
Troy, Alabama last week. The mission of this
award is to inspire and develop our global
community of youth and volunteers to a life
dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation. The State Leadership Seminar is designed to help high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply
them. We rejoice with Sara Beth that she has
been honored in receiving this award.
We also congratulate Sarah Watkins who won
Fourth place in bowling during the Special
