From the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Chinese Cultural and Language Immersion
Program
Our two Chinese exchange students arrived at our
school yesterday and will stay with us until Friday 5th
December. The students are all settling in well.
Many thanks to our host families, school
ambassadors and school community for making them
feel so welcome. The students will part of our
classrooms during their stay and will also attend
English classes.
Next Monday they will attend a Mayoral reception at
the Town Hall to welcome them to Bendigo.
School Song
A couple of people have asked us to publish the
words to our school song. Please see below:
My friends, my peers, my achievements, my ideas
All meet in this Spring Gully school;
The friendships created from nine ‘til three-thirty
May last for many a year.
I’m encouraged to try things I might never try,
To work just as hard as I can.
I’m learning new skills and enjoying the thrill
Of seeing just who I am...
Of being just who I am.
May the tears and the laughter be something
I’ll treasure, when I’m no longer a child
The mem’ries good and bad, the best times I’ve had
Learning how I can fit in this world.
CHORUS.
progress and is a great way to measure and reward
our school's success.

2015 Placement Requests
Throughout October and November we will continue
to work on our class structures and student
combinations for next year.
In the past we have worked to ensure friendship
groups remain together, however it is equally
important to recognise the need to establish
productive environments that support learning, as
well as maintaining or building new friendship
groups. If there are any concerns about friendship
placements for students in 2015, please let me know
in writing or email
[email protected] by Friday, 7th
November. No late requests will be considered.
Please note that it is not possible for parents to
request specific teachers as it would be impossible to
accommodate all requests. Our process is to develop
matched classroom groups based on social and
educational needs, and then we match teachers to
each class. In this way all classes are developed
equally.
Currently we do not know who will be teaching
which grades next year and several factors will
determine how this is finally decided. We are
presently in the process of recruiting staff and this
will determine our final workforce for 2015. Our
Prep teachers will be known before the Prep
Information Night on Wednesday, 12th November.
Michael Grose Parenting Ideas
This week I have included an article titled “The
secret to raising happy, confident kids”. I hope some
of you find parts of this information useful.
Regional Athletic Sports
Congratulations to the students that competed in the
Regional Athletics Championships on Monday. This
was a high level of competition, with four of our
students now progressing to the next level.
Congratulations to all students that competed and
best wishes to the students progressing to the next
level of competition.
Social Worker
We are very pleased to be able to offer the services
of an extra Social Worker in our school.
The Social Worker, Kim, has started s and is able to
provide counselling and therapy for students in need.
She specialises in Play Therapy and can work with
children experiencing some of the following:
 Learning and attention problems
 Worry and anxiety
 Friendship problems
 Grief and loss
 Trauma, such as family violence.
This service is fully covered by Medicare and does
require the child to have a Mental Health Plan from
their GP.
Assistance can be given in obtaining such a plan if
needed, by phoning the Tristar Medical Group
Epsom on 54485952 [please ask to speak to the
Mental Health Nurse, Cindy].
If you would like to access this free service through
the school, please contact me as soon as possible as
due to the popularity of the program, there is only 1
vacancy available.

Reminder: Induction Evening - Year 7 Parents &
Students at BSE 2015
Thursday, 30th October 7.00pm to 8.00pm
German Cultural Day
On Monday the junior students ate some delicious
German food and were entertained by the fabulous
Marcus and Carolyn from Hunkydory Puppets and
the Eurofest Choir. The students loved the Mr Punch
puppet shows and were amazed by the wide range of
puppets they were introduced to including a skeleton
puppet, a flying fairy puppet and puppets made from
shoes! Here are some photos from the day!
More to come soon.
Student Absences
Thank you to the parents that notify us of their
child’s absence/lateness via SMS and the APP.
Please remember to include your child’s name, grade
and reason for absence/lateness in your SMS/APP.
Removal of Buildings—Weekend Demolition
One portable building will be demolished over the
weekend. Please talk to your children that this will be
happening and that it is very important that they
avoid playing in our school on the weekend.

Regional Athletics
Well done to all of our students who represented the
school at the Loddon Campaspe Mallee Regional
Athletics on Monday. The competition was very
strong and featured the best athletes from Central and
Northern Victoria.
Daniel B won both of his individual events – the
triple jump and the 200m. He was also a member of
our successful 4 x 100m relay team that won the 12
Years event. This team also featured Hamish B, Tom
M and Jack M. A brilliant effort boys!
Acacia M won her heat in the girls 10 Years 200m
and finished 4th in the final. Hamish Boyle-Wild
finished 7th in the 12 Years Shot Put.
I would like to congratulate all of these students on
their achievements, and for the way they conducted
themselves throughout the day.
Early Morning T20 Blast Cricket Tournament
Our Early Morning Cricket Tournament commenced
this morning with teams 1 and 2 playing. This
competition is for students from grades 3 to 6 and is
in the form of a Round Robin competition. Students
have now been placed into teams and a fixture has
been created. This fixture can be found on display in
the Senior Building. Games are being played every
Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8.15 sharp. Any
unfinished innings will be completed during
lunchtime that same day. Players do not need to be
available every Tuesday and Thursday – only when
their team is playing.
Interschool Sports – Cricket and Handball
Students in grade 6 will be competing in an
Interschool sporting competition this term with
neighbouring schools. The purpose of this
competition is to allow our students to mix with
students from other BSE feeder schools, whilst
enjoying the benefits of playing organised team
sports. It will also allow for our school cricket teams
to prepare for the Bendigo Tournament later this
term.
